THE TRUTH ABOUT ADMIRATION

admiring man

Admiration: n. respecting and being attracted to and feeling a relatively large intensity pleasure because of (good and/or moral behavior) and/or professional excellence

We generally admire competent professionals who know what they are doing and provide us with a needed service. We also admire humans who are honest, sincere, dependable, trustworthy, friendly, considerate, and interesting to talk to.

If you want to be admired in life by others then you have to acquire the knowledge and skills to have a successful career or become a leader with excellent social skills and some expertise in the field that you are a leader of. As an admired leader who is respected by others you will have to be highly moral with a very good memory for names and that means not lying, stealing, or being adulterous if married.

Yes, some wealthy individuals are admired for their wealth alone and they may have done some pretty immoral things along the way to acquiring that wealth. However, chances are that you would not want to have them as a personal friend because you may not respect them for their immorality. You may admire their wealth but not respect them as good humans.

Tyrants are admired by many humans because they are powerful humans and they in some way usually benefit from the exercise of that power. Historically conquering tyrants were both feared and respected for their ability to expand territory through violent means. Many more fear opposing tyrants with negative comments or actions because of a fear of incarceration or even death.

A moral leadership is respected and admired by its citizens and immoral leadership corrupted by power and money is not truly respected by humans and frequently leads to tyranny which is the only solution to the chaos created by immorality.

THE TRUTH ABOUT ADDICTION

addiction_cycle1

Addiction: n. compulsively desiring a subset(s)

You can be addicted to drinking soda, coffee, etc., food, shopping, exercising, sex, legal and illegal drugs and alcohol, smoking, pornography, gambling, lying, reading, hand washing, and hundreds of other compulsive bad habits which can devastate your life or make it very dysfunctional. Some of these addictions are so pleasurable that only the fear of death or financial ruin will eventually cause you to stop them.

If you are addicted to a chemical substance with severe withdrawal symptoms and desperately want to quit then you may have to consult a professional doctor who can minimize the withdrawal symptoms and place you in a rehab center if you can afford it. Addictive chemical habits can’t change overnight and relapses are very common even with professional help.

The best advice to your offspring is don’t get addicted in the first place and avoid all the guilt, cravings, and eventual crises which frequently follow a series of temporary addictive highs.

The best way to cure addictions is to replace them with good habits that you enjoy doing but be aware that acquiring a good pleasurable habit may take more than two months of self-motivated practice or performance to make it a permanent part of your life.

Destroying an addiction on your own is almost impossible to do in many cases and the best advice is to get a professional, family, close good friends, a support group or all four to motivate you to quit your addiction. If you have supportive caring humans to help you break an addiction then the probability that you will succeed greatly increases.

THE TRUTH ABOUT ADAPTATION

Time to Adapt - Clock

Adaptation: n. changing to achieve a goal(s) which is no longer possible to achieve without change and/or adjusting to changes in the environment

Change is inevitable in life and humans who don’t change or learn to adapt to new circumstances sometimes suffer greatly emotionally and frequently sink into depression or get hooked on addictive drugs and alcohol to try and escape their unfortunate predicament. Quite a few former celebrities and sports stars lose their fame and wind up living rather unfulfilling lives with drug abuse problems and profligate bad habits which frequently lead to bankruptcy.

One of the major keys to successful adaptation is finding new goals to try and achieve when the old lifestyle is no longer appropriate. Changing jobs, learning new knowledge and skills, moving to another part of the country such as from the city to the farm, and finding a new significant other are just some of the ways which are used to adapt to necessary change in an otherwise dysfunctional life.

In nature you either learn to adapt to changes in the environment or you starve and die and in the human experience you either learn to adapt  to new circumstances or you lead a rather miserable dysfunctional life until the day that you die.

THE TRUTH ABOUT ABILITY

download (2)

Ability:  n. having a subset(s) to achieve a goal(s) whether or not one has a legal right to achieve samer goal(s)

You are born with some physical abilities and you can acquire abilities during your lifetime in the form of knowledge and/or skills. Not so obvious is being given legal rights so that you have the ability to control other humans and their actions.

When you say that you can’t do something then you don’t have the ability to do the task or you may not have a legal right to do the task. Most of the important abilities are acquired through learning knowledge and skills in life and this learning increases the number of things which you can do in life.

Having the right useful abilities determines whether you will reach the goals both small and large which you try to achieve in your life. If you are having difficulty achieving your goals then you may not have the right abilities to do so so you should try to improve or acquire them.

It doesn’t take us long to realize that our looks, social skills, and learning potential is different from others and that abilities can vary greatly in small groups and larger ones. We may discover that we are the preferred offspring in a family but in a school environment there are others with more ability than us and get more preferential treatment.

Life is a constant struggle of trying to increase our abilities with the help of role models who already have developed those abilities or are in the process of developing a certain ability subset.

If you have to be born with a certain ability such as excellent memory to achieve your goals then unfortunately you will never achieve them if you are handicapped memory wise. The wise human learns to work and perform within his or her limitations but tries to optimize results within those limitations.

Ability is having something needed to achieve a goal(s). If you can’t get what you need and you can’t achieve your goal(s) then choose another goal(s).

THE TRUTH ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY

cw photography

Photography has two major flaws which make it an imperfect art in many cases. It frequently leaves the background and/or foreground out of focus and frequently doesn’t take an action photo at the most interesting moment.

These two flaws are probably why action photography or videos are fast replacing still photography as a preferable form of recording nature and events. If a picture is worth a thousand words then a video is worth hundreds of thousands of words.

Amateur photography, the cell phone, and the internet have greatly cut into the profitability of photography.  There are few who can successfully survive making a living just doing wedding shots, magazine photos, or celebrity photos.

Photoshop and other photography software have opened the floodgates of photographic creativity but the skill required is becoming more complex and  fewer choose to spend the time necessary to master the needed skills.

Photography is not really a dying profession but it is getting increasingly harder to make a living at it.

THE TRUTH ABOUT BIAS

biases

Bias: n. a subjective personal favoritism for a subset(s)

We all have a personal way of thinking and doing things which all depends on our individual experiences, beliefs, and opinions and this is called personal bias or subjectivity. Someone from a different culture or background may have many biases which are much different than our own so we should learn to respect those biases and not always try to prove that our biases are the only ones to have.

Most conflicts, arguments, and misunderstandings stem from the fact that humans have different biases which have to be dealt with in a sometimes diplomatic way and not through an outright assault on emotionally deeply felt biases. A challenge to deeply held biases will be met with sometimes ferocious defensive actions and you should learn to communicate in a way which will not inflame those biases which sometimes may also be called prejudices.

Biases not grounded in many facts but emotionally deeply felt are the hardest to deal with because reason, logic, and relevant facts will frequently not be convincing enough to change those biases. The media, politics in general, religion, and sports is frequently not something which you can talk logically about because they are strongly held emotional beliefs frequently not based on many facts and subject to very little change.

If a human has very many biases different than your own then the probability that you can have a successful intimate relationship with that human are very slim. If you have a relationship it will probably be a very tempestuous and rather unsatisfactory one.

A scientific bias is preferable to a non scientific one but you have to be careful about statistics which can lead to inaccurate conclusions because there is no one to one correspondence with frequently vaguely defined variables. The scientific method is not very useful in human affairs because empathy, anger, frustration, revenge, poverty, discrimination, love, hate, etc is poorly defined and does not lend itself to manipulation with mathematical formulas. You can’t prove morality mathematically and test it in a laboratory.

Science will never prove the necessity for a secular moral code or morality for humans so that they can peacefully interact with one another in society. A moral code for young impressionable minds is necessary so that humans react impulsively in life situations and don’t always have to be asking -is what I am about to do right or wrong?

The questioning scientific approach to situation ethics is dysfunctional because it is so relative and almost any situation can be justified under certain circumstances. The end frequently justifies the means and this is a morally corrupt way of running the world of human affairs.

Except in emergency situations it should be immoral to destroy biodiversity, lie, be inefficient, steal, be adulterous if married, and murder. Prove that mathematically and scientifically in a lab. You can’t!!!!!! But you can try to get a consensus in society that a secular moral code is a good thing to teach young impressionable minds.
