Witness: n. a human who observes an event(s) and then communicates the event(s) frequently in a court of law

You can experience any event(s) and be called an observer to that event. If it is a crime and/or accident then you may be able to testify in court and be a witness.

Many observers just experience an accident and/or crime and either refuse to testify in court or are afraid to do it for fear that their lives may be in jeopardy or that some bad event my occur with some future vengeance from the accused.

The verb for witnessing should not exist but it should be replaced with observing instead.
