Restriction: n. controlling within certain limits by (law and/or rule) and/or with a barrier(s)

Passing laws and putting up barriers is the most common way of trying to restrict human behavior but you can also restrict nonhuman lifeforms by putting up barriers.

Restricted access to an area for offspring may be simply under parental supervision or with the wearing of appropriate safety gear.

There are restroom restrictions for males and females and any law or rule can be considered a restriction on your behavior.
