Unrequite: v. to give but not get a similar subset(s) as a reaction
Unrequited love is frequently how the word is used and it means giving love and not getting any love in return.
Unrequited could be used in gift giving so that unrequited gift giving is giving a gift and not getting one in return or perhaps not even a thank you which is what usually is considered polite behavior when being given something and not giving anything similar in return.
Â
An unrequited compliment or praise is seldom used because most humans react with a thanks which is a form of giving back or reacting verbally and don’t give a compliment or praise back which is far more appropriate in some cases.
There is also unrequited aggression, ridicule, name calling and basically not getting back what you give but getting back something entirely different or in some cases nothing at all such as silence or no reaction.
