Unstable: adj. a large probability of change in the near future and frequently with relatively large changes in behavior(s) and/or action(s)

An unstable chair will fall down relatively easily with use and an unstable personality can be laughing one moment and crying the next moment unexpectedly. An unstable explosive can easily be triggered off to explode, sometimes with merely a touch or vibration.

Instability is the word frequently used to describe unstable subsets and it is an unnecessary word or should be redefined as I have done.

Instability: n. disequilibrium in a subset(s)
