THE TRUTH ABOUT SAFETY+

images (1)

Safety: n. a large probability that injury to a person(s) and/or damage to a subset(s) will not exist in the near future

Humans generally feel safe when the probability of injury is minimal which usually means that they are also in a relatively safe environment such as at home. It is true that many accidents occur in the home but nowhere except perhaps in a padded cell is safety guaranteed 100%.

There are also some minimal precautions which can be made to be safer when driving such as seat belts and safety glass which help in the event of a car accident.

Toy manufacturers also have to obey safety guidelines such as non toxic paint and no small parts which a young offspring could potentially choke on.

It is one thing to make safety rules when someone is acting responsibly but it is almost impossible to pass safety measures for irresponsibly behaving humans. Ultimately humans have a responsibility to act in safe ways themselves without extra burdensome government regulations.

Safety rules should not ensure maximum safety unless hundreds of lives are at stake such as airlines.

Safety rules should assume the need for some responsible smart behavior on the part of the humans using a device and/or tool. Warnings about improper usage should appear on the product and it is ultimately the responsibility of the user to read them and act accordingly.

When you are not in danger of being injured or when a house is hurricane proof or can’t be damaged then you can say that you are safe or that your house is relatively safe.

Most humans behave safely because they are afraid of getting hurt and the government sometimes goes to great length to protect you from harm by passing safety laws causing the installation of home smoke detectors and car seat belts.

It seems that there is an attempt to legislate proper human behavior or an attempt to reduce the bad consequences of irresponsibility. DUI laws, helmet laws, lead paint laws, mold laws, toy laws, and building laws are just a few of the examples of laws passed trying to optimize a safe environment for humans to live in.

Some complain of the government trying to be a nanny state for adults trying too much to protect them from irresponsible behavior with too many laws all in the name of safety.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SELFRESTRAINT+

Self_Restraint__225x300

Selfrestraint: n. preventing and/or changing one’s frequent mostly impulsive normal behavior

How frequently have you been tempted to call someone and asshole or idiot and stopped yourself at the last moment? As a young child we frequently wanted to and even did physically fight back for personal insults and the only reason that adults don’t fight as much physically is that they have learned selfrestraint when attacked socially.

Trying to control or change your usual mostly impulsive defensive behavior is not easy and if you have done so then you have demonstrated selfrestraint.

Insults can slip out very easily and there are probably many times that you wish you hadn’t said something which you vocalized that hurt someone’s feelings. Being silent or not reacting at all is sometimes the best but hardest thing to do and is an example of selfrestraint which politically is called passive resistance.

Selfrestraint is common in public behavior and that is why many find relief in being at home, not being selfrestrained, and doing and saying what we want to do and say impulsively without the fear of being judged publicly for our sometimes deviant private behavior.

Private behavior can easily become public behavior if we are not on guard and being bluntly honest about everything we do or say in our own personal way. Letting it all hang out in public is sometimes not the wisest of choices and selfrestraint is definitely needed.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SAME+

download

Same: adj. a subset(s) assumed identical but realistically very close to a different subset(s)

Identical means for all practical purposes indistinguishable from the original or the original thing itself but saying that it is the same thing leaves open the possibility that it is a very good copy or very close to an original.

Same size, color, and shape is a very general external description of sameness which opens up the possibility that things may be similar to a large degree but not exact copies both externally and internally.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SCARE+

scare

Scare: v. to suddenly and intensely frighten

What is the difference between a scary and frightening human. A scary human is more frightening and the proper use of scare is to use it when you are suddenly and intensely frightened as in the common phrase- “You scared me!” You generally do not say-“You frightened me!”

A scary movie is really a movie with many instances of sudden intensely frightening moments.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SCATTER+

sct2

Scatter: v. to cause to move apart and frequently be relocated in random directions

Seeds are sometimes scattered over an area, proximate cockroaches scatter when suddenly exposed to light or potential predators, and radiation is scattered from a natural source of radiation.

Scatter brains is erroneous slang for humans with more of a tendency towards random behavior and/or random speech.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SELFCONFIDENCE+

images

Selfconfidence: n. freedom from selfdoubt when trying to achieve a goal(s) which frequently exists with a belief in oneself and in the power of one’s abilities

Confidence in yourself and others exists and when you are selfconfident then you have succeeded in freeing yourself of most selfdoubt, you believe in yourself, and you have faith in the power of your abilities.

Selfconfidence is a desirable trait as long as it isn’t demonstrated in an arrogant way. Know it all personalities who think they are right about everything do not have good reputations because no one is perfect and everyone should recognize this fact of life and react accordingly with some humility and inquisitiveness.
