Exonerate: v. to give liberty from a wrongdoing claim(s)

Exonerate sounds like a very official word and most exonerations are done by important officials or authorities. 

Simply put, if you are exonerated then you have been liberated of an unjust claim that you did something bad and/or immoral and/or criminal and/or wrongdid.
