CHANGING THE ENVIRONMENT AND/OR IMPORTANT ASSUMPTIONS:
Sometimes changing the culture or surroundings leads to innovation. Humans in different part of the world make some different assumptions which leads to different circumstances or a different environment.
If you are a chef or one interested in food innovation the food traditions of different countries can lead to some innovative recipes which may or may not be successful in the marketplace.
Some cultures are more efficient than others and to be innovative you can learn to apply those principles to your way of working things out.
Mass transit efficiency can be studied in different countries to find out what the most efficient and modern system is today. Innovative places like Dubai can be a source for architectural innovation or new ideas about building structures. Educational innovation can originate from countries with a very high level of educational excellence.
Changing some important assumptions and finding out how results can change is another innovative approach. A product specifically designed for women may lead to innovation if you assume with minor modifications that it would be desired by men also.
Assuming that an adult tool or product could be slightly modified and sold to offspring may also lead to innovative ideas.
Changing the environment and/or changing some important assumptions can lead to innovative thinking and correspondingly innovative ideas.
INCREASING THE PROBABILITY OF INNOVATIVE IDEAS:
Nothing stimulates innovative idea frequency more than tracking innovation in your industry and cross fertilization from other industries applying automation to make their efforts more efficient.
Some research or useful reading and input on a daily basis will stimulate creativity and ultimately creativity stems from trying to be creative on a regular basis and recording your efforts digitally or on paper which may be as simple as writing about something new and/or old on a daily basis.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH INNOVATIVE HUMANS:
If you have a work environment then try to populate it with as many innovative humans as possible all interacting digitally and in person with others.
REWARD CREATIVITY WITH RECOGNITION AND SOMETIMES MONEY:
Increasing the status of creative humans is rewarding and can be done with official praise or recognition, working perks, and special privileges like company time to pursue your personal interests especially if they deal with selfimprovement.
EXPERIMENT AND TAKE ON SOME NEW MANAGEABLE RISKS:
Being innovative can be risky and costly so if the experiment or innovation is tried then make sure that it fails quickly or is terminated if it seems to not be yielding any good changes for the better within a rather narrow duration.
IF THE COMPANY DOES NOT HAVE AN R&D DEPARTMENT THEN CREATE ONE:
Creative humans belong in a research and development department where they can interact with other creative innovative humans. Don’t expect that much creativity from average employees because their minds just don’t naturally think innovatively and when they do come up with an innovative idea the probability of it being ignored is rather great because no one expects creativity from them on a regular basis.
If it is not a prosperous wealthy company then two or three creative or innovative humans devoted to research and development should be sufficient.
