Tentative: adj. believing and/or doing temporarily without certainty
We may temporarily tend to believe something but need further evidence to believe it permanently. We may also do something but are not quite sure that we have done the right thing or done it according to the specifications requested by an authority or boss.
In both cases there is some doubt in our minds or there is an absence of certainty so we call it a tentative belief or action(s) perhaps subject to some change in the future.
