Ban: v. to permanently prohibit
Banning alcohol or permanently trying to prohibit it was a colossal failure and banning other things officially have the same consequences occasionally.
Apparently there is nothing more tempting than forbidden fruit and in a relatively open free society where you don’t get cruel and unusual punishment for doing banned things, humans have a tendency to experiment and try to find out why something is banned.
Getting away with banned behavior is the way some humans get their occasional thrills in life which may or may not get them into trouble sooner or later.
Perhaps the greatest danger would be if the government started banning certain books because they were not politically correct. Perhaps the only justification for banning would be banning books which show how to make terrorist bombs or explosive devices and electrocorpus devices which could potentially greatly injure or even kill victims.
