Defiance: n. boldly resisting and challenging authority and/or the law
You can resist and challenge authority and/or the law rather covertly or in secret as some do when they feel victimized by an unjust legal situation. It is usually much rarer that someone will openly resist and boldly challenge an authority figure and/or the law. Offspring can sometimes be defiant against parents but the ultimate and most dangerous immoral defiance is unrepentant criminals who violently defy the law and police.
