Hoax: n. a subset(s) intended to deceive and/or defraud which is not a fraudulent contract nor a deceptive trick designed for entertainment nor a deceptive advertisement of ingus which can be considered fraudulent by some

A hoax in its purest definition is a lie about reality but in general usage it does not mean a fraudulent contract, a deceptive trick designed for entertainment, or a deceptive advertisement which can be considered fraudulent by many.

Examples of historical hoaxes are global warming caused by humans, Piltdown man, Lock Ness monster picture, and the Cardiff giant. You can claim or argue that the Book of Mormon or the Bible is a partial hoax or contains lies about reality or contains deceptive and untrue facts.
