Trifle: v. to treat a subset(s) without seriousness

If you treat someone with disrespect you are really not trifling with them but being disrespectful but you are trifling if you don’t take something or someone seriously. You can respect someone and not take them seriously when they are being playful with you, kidding around, or saying some pretty stupid things once in a while. If you are trifling with an object or idea then you are not taking it seriously and you may be in danger if it is a dangerous object or a controversial and perhaps radical idea.
