THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN TRYING TO CHANGE SOMEONE’S OPINION WITH PERSUASION!!!

Opinion: n. communicating a relatively weak transient belief which is subject to change if confronted by (logical reasoning and/or experiences) and/or respected authority figures which nullify samer belief

Persuasion: n. getting agreement that a goal(s) is worth achieving

Before you try to change someone’s opinion it is best to stop and ask yourself three basic questions-

Is the human important enough in my life?

Is the opinion that I want to change going to benefit me and/or the another human in some way?

Is the opinion important enough in my life to spend my time, energy, effort, and maybe even money trying to change the opinion?

If the answer to the three questions is yes then go ahead and try to change the opinion.

If the answer is no then you are wasting your time, energy, effort, and maybe even money trying to change an opinion which should be left alone in the first place.

Persuasion is called an art because humans are different and what may persuade one human may not persuade another even if you use all the recommended persuasive tactics or tricks suggested by others.

There are general principles of persuasion which optimize the probability of success in changing another’s opinion but it is not a sure thing so my suggestions are merely ballpark approximations to what should be done to change someones’s opinion.

In general you will be more persuasive if you are

liked,

respected as an authority figure,

use factual or real examples to support your opinion, and

customize your opinions to the real life experiences and feelings of the human that you are trying to persuade.

Changing someone’s opinion is easier than changing someone’s basic beliefs but it is always easier to do if there is some personal benefit which can come from a change in opinion. If your persuasion will lead to someone saving time, energy, and money and even feeling happy about the change then it could be a worthwhile persuasion.

Try to change an opinion if you come from a position of authority or respect and are either known to have expertise on the subject or have a relatively close trusting relationship with the person whom you are trying to persuade.

Historical precedents are important because if something has worked before or is working well now then chances are frequently pretty good that it will work in the future too. Also appeal to experts or testimonials if you want to back up your persuasive powers with influential humans who have the same opinion.

Personality types will also affect your persuasive ability and it might be wise to determine whether a human is very dogmatically inclined on a subject or is malleable and open to differing views on the subject. If you feel there is a great emotional investment or emotional attachment then opposing that opinion may only lead to an argument or a strong denial.

Not so obvious is that it is very important WHOM you are trying to persuade. Is it your boss, employee, customer, friend, date, spouse, offspring, stranger, team, or audience whom you are trying to persuade?

Business persuasion is very different than trying to impress or persuade your date what a good potential mate you will be and persuading an audience has its own unique skill set. Google and find out what are the unique ways of persuading each category of humans. You will only find general principles covered in this blog.

Unless it is a close friend or spouse generally stay away from attempts to change a religious, political, or sports opinion which can quickly escalate into an undesirable argument and standoff.

WHAT you are trying to persuade a human of is also very important. There are factual persuasions and very subjective personal persuasions about politics, religion, sports odds, and aesthetics which are very frequently excursions into futility because the highly emotional beliefs or opinions are so strong and seldom subject to change or persuasion. Sometimes facts or statistics are coupled with strong emotional biases or feelings about what the facts really mean and a strictly logical approach to try and persuade may not be sufficient to reach a persuasive agreement.

If changing an opinion may result in an immediate or future pay increase then persuasion can lead to good personal benefits and should be pursued.

For an overloaded working mom it can be beneficial to try and persuade the husband to get more involved in doing household chores and share the burden or responsibility. The husband may have an opinion that cleaning the house and cooking is women’s work so she will probably have to come up with a lot of convincing examples of working couples sharing the household workload.

Janitor men clean and men chefs cook so you can argue that cleaning and cooking is not just women’s work. Yes, historically stay at home moms took care of the house and offspring but times have changed so mutual effort is now the smart thing to do.

Trying to change human opinions as a public speaker is much harder than changing a one on one opinion where you can get immediate feedback from the one that you are trying to persuade or convince. Public speaking is persuading from a distance and that requires additional skills which don’t have to be used in one on one persuading which entails a lot of questioning, feedback, and two way discussion in general.

In one on one persuasion it is very important to do most of the listening and only short and sweet head nods and brief responses showing respect for the others opinions. Using phrases such as “I know where you are coming from” and “That makes a lot of sense” shows a respect for another’s opinions.

Asking probing questions to determine all the pros and cons of the situation and probing for possible objections to your point of view are also important because they will have to be addressed and in doing so you may uncover some flaws in your point of view which will need attention or change. There is seldom a perfect opinion and yours may have some flaws too which you should admit to and hopefully correct.

Try not to be overly confident, aggressive, and don’t proselytize with a basic viewpoint that you are a know it all. This will automatically put the listener in a defensive mode with a tendency to disagree or say no to whatever you may have to say. Try to stay calmly in discussion mode and not in intense argument or debate mode.

Sometimes partial agreement is better than no agreement at all. We are really talking about the art of compromising here so there is a win win situation for both even though one or both parties don’t get everything that they wanted. Sometimes it is even smart to agree to disagree and leave the issue unresolved for the time being.

Use statistical consensus if it exists in what you are trying to persuade because many people are motivated by the herd instinct and want to frequently be in the majority with their opinions. This approach can be dangerous with teenagers since peer pressure is a statistical consensus or what the majority is doing. If the majority is using drugs of some kind then this does not mean that you should be doing it also.

Very briefly,

if someone likes you,

if you are an expert or authority figure,

if you do them a favor first,

if many have been persuaded already,

if they have made a commitment, and

if scarcity is emphasized then you are more likely to persuade successfully, especially if you are trying to persuade someone into buying something.

Before trying to persuade someone you have to assess

who you want to persuade,

about what,

how you will persuade, and

when you will attempt persuasion.

Whom do you want to persuade?

If you are in a position of authority over someone then you will have more success in persuading that person. If you are the boss with expertise then you may be very persuasive about job related issues but not necessarily in topics or opinions outside the job sphere.

If you are a parent authority figure then you will have a greater probability of persuading your offspring even though realistically you may occasionally have to use some coercion or the threat of punishment to get them to do what you want.

If you have expertise in a field or are in a position of authority then your relevant opinions will be more respected and your persuasive powers will be greater.

You will probably also be better able to persuade your spouse or close friend with whom you have an honest, sincere, and trusting relationship. Close associates who may admire and respect you will usually be more persuaded by you than if you try to persuade total strangers or casual friends.

If you use authority figure opinions or statistics which show that most humans believe or behave a certain way then you will be more persuasive because most humans generally respect authority and want to be accepted as part of the majority or don’t want to seem like loners.

What do you want to persuade about?

You must also realize that persuading one to change a strong religious, political, or sports belief or a strong opinion will be almost impossible and not worth the effort. It is much different if you are trying to persuade someone to buy information, goods, or services from you where a human may actually have a desire, need, want, or interest in what you are selling or offering.

Persuading your spouse to do something at home like taking out the garbage out on a regular basis, spending more time with offspring, or doing you a big favor is possible but you may have to do something in return to be persuasive enough.

If you are trying to persuade someone then assess whether the persuasion will lead to mutual benefit in some way. If you can demonstrate that you gain something more than just a boost to your ego and the human whom you are trying to persuade will gain something good by being persuaded then the probability of being persuasive goes up greatly.

Before you begin to persuade first ask whether there will be any benefits for one party or both if the persuasion is successful or goes through.

How will you persuade?

If you compliment or boost someone’s ego and make them emotionally feel good first then you will often have more success with your persuasive attempts.

If you first probe the possible responses or opinions of the one whom you are trying to persuade and listen carefully to what they have to say, then you may put yourself in a better strategic position and be able to fine tune your persuasive attempts to the needs, desires, and wants of the human. After listening carefully to the initial responses or opinions you may decide that persuasion may be a waste of time.

If you are confident, enthusiastic, and communicate clearly and understandably then you will be more persuasive.

If you use real life examples in the human’s life or your own to try and prove your point then you will be more successful in persuading. If you can relay an interesting story which backs up your point of view then you will be more convincing in your persuasive attempts.

If you have documented facts then you will sometimes be more persuasive.

If you have thoroughly analyzed a problem or problems with the pros and cons and have plausible solutions to them backed up by facts then you should be more persuasive.

If you can demonstrate or show that something bad or terrible will happen if the human is not persuaded then you may be a more successful persuader.

Remember that threatening someone into doing something rather than persuading them will get results if you are in a position of authority but the human adult whom you are threatening into doing something may not be persuaded that it was the right thing to do and may resent your coercive action and their respect for you may decrease.

When should you persuade?

It should be obvious that if you are trying to persuade a human and they are too tired or too busy then you will have to pick another time to try and persuade. Also persuasion sometimes requires persistence and you may have to frequently try to persuade sometimes using a slightly different approach each time and the time that it may take before being successful may be a week, month, or even a year.

If there is a sense of urgency created in the one that you are trying to persuade then they are more likely to respond more quickly and affirmatively and this applies more to selling something to someone.

Here is an attempt at changing your teenager’s opinion that marijuana usage is not a big thing since so many humans are into it and has become legal in Colorado.

Ask some probing questions first.

Do you think a person has the right to do with his body whatever he or she wishes including drugs?

Do you think marijuana is habit forming for some?

Do you think regular marijuana usage does not affect job performance or thinking? (back this up with factual research)

Do you think that marijuana usage and excessive alcohol usage simultaneously will cause greater driving impairment?

Do you think minors should be able to use marijuana?

Do you think parents who use marijuana a lot will be bad role models for their offspring?

Do you know that excessive marijuana usage by minors results in psychological problems and bad performance in school? (back this up with factual research)

Would you let your 4 year old smoke marijuana? Why not?

Is marijuana a gateway to more addictive drugs? (not an established fact but a more probable yes)

Sometimes black market marijuana is laced with shitty chemicals to get you coming back for more or you can’t trust the quality of it and are sometimes playing Russian roulette with your brain.

Do you know that about 10 percent of the Dutch marijuana users are severely addicted to the marijuana habit? (back this up with factual statistics from reputable research)

In 2015 about 30% of Americans have had an alcohol use disorder and one in 7 or more than 10% are chronic users on a yearly basis and the problem is getting worse. Add chronic alcohol use to habitual chronic marijuana use if legalized nationally and you have over 20% of the population fucked up on two drugs and there are plenty more legal and illegal mind altering drugs to choose from.

Does marijuana unnaturally increase your appetite?

Is pot smoking just as harmful as cigarette smoke in the long duration?

Conclusion:

Occasional marijuana usage can tragically lead to excessive usage which can impair job performance, thinking ability, and become a bad role model for personal offspring who will have greater psychological and academic problems in school with heavy usage.

About 10% of pot smokers will become an addicted or habitual burden upon society just as excessive alcohol usage is a great cost to society. There is also the greater probability that marijuana usage will lead to other forms of more addictive drug use in a permissive society causing more social havoc and misery in society.

Drugs of any kind such as opiods, cocaine, marijuana, alcohol, etc. artificially alter the mind’s chemistry and long duration usage is usually detrimental to good brain health or functioning. If you want to lead a productive life and be a success then drug usage will only handicap your ability to achieve wanted goals in life.

Escape from reality with marijuana and alcohol or cocaine usage and reality may come crashing down on you with a failed marriage, failed relationships, and maybe even job failure. There is no proof that average marijuana usage will ruin your life. It just makes the probability that you will have detrimental bad side effects in your life more likely, especially if you become a chronic user.

You should fear rampant personal and social use of marijuana and similar drugs in society because future generations and you personally and your family will probably be adversely affected in the long duration.

Finally, I don’t get high on marijuana and get drunk to feel good or reduce stress. Why should you? I don’t need artificial highs but prefer natural highs to feel good such as exercise and drug free social interaction. Our home is a drug free zone with punishment if caught and you will have to wait till your 18 and you live by yourself to use it freely if you choose to do so.

THE TRUTH ABOUT DEFIANCE

250px-defiance_logo_tv_show

Defiance: n. boldly resisting and challenging authority and/or the law

You can resist and challenge authority and/or the law rather covertly or in secret as some do when they feel victimized by an unjust legal situation. It is usually much rarer that someone will openly resist and boldly challenge an authority figure and/or the law. Offspring can sometimes be defiant against parents but the ultimate and most dangerous immoral defiance is unrepentant criminals who violently defy the law and police.

You can be a candidate for political office or a management position and you can also be a candidate for an award given by someone or some institution. THE TRUTH ABOUT CONSENT+

pots study consent

Consent: v. to give permission by an authority to (achieve a goal(s) and/or do a subset(s))

Consenting adults having sex is an important concept which basically means that both participating humans have given permission to have sex with each other and have not been coerced or forced or threatened into having sex which should be illegal if coercion exists. Consensual adults is a more accurate definition which means mutual consenting.

Parental consent is also a very important concept because parents are the primary authority figures over their offspring and permission must be obtained from parents first before offspring can do certain things or behave in a certain way.

When working consent from the boss, manager, or leader must first be gotten to do something differently, especially if it means doing something against business or company policy.

Permission and consenten really mean the same thing and are synonyms which is something which I am trying to avoid as much as possible. Unfortunately permitting adults is not as obvious a concept as consenting adults so I have defined consent using permission in it.

You can be disqualified for doping in sports competitions and disqualified from political office for fraud. You can be disqualified from a professorship if they find out that you fraudulently lied about you academic history.

THE TRUTH ABOUT FORBID*

Forbid: v. to not give permission to do by authority and/or law

Society forbids you to do many things but most important is what you forbid yourself to do. Don’t forbid yourself the use of addictive drugs, excessive alcohol drinking, excessive gambling, lying, financial irresponsibility, adultery, and excessive arguing and your life can become a very unhappy, miserable, problem filled existence.

Living a moral life with good moral friends will not guarantee a trouble free existence but it will be much better than one lived with rampant immorality.

Learn what important things to forbid yourself and you will have avoided most of the addictive bad habits in life.

Guilt-Versability-LifehackGuilt: n. deserving punishment for doing a (bad and/or immoral) and/or illegal subset(s) for which one may not be punished unless seen and caught by a witness(s) or a legal authority(s).

Intentionally do something bad, immoral, or illegal and you should have a guilty conscience. If you do something bad, immoral, or illegal often and don’t get caught, reprimanded, or punished in some way then the guilty conscience if you ever had one to begin with will disappear.

Lying, stealing, adultery, and murder should make any civilized human feel guilt yet there are plenty of criminals and psychopaths who feel no guilt doing so and can be considered to be uncivilized bad humans who should be punished with fines, jail, or social ostracism.

6 WAYS TO PERSUADE OTHERS PROVEN BY SCIENCE!!!

mcdaniel-persuasion

Very often you would like to persuade someone or get someone to say yes and agree to a suggestion or offer which you are making. There is an excellent link at the end of this blog which explains this very well in a video presentation.

If you want to view the excellent video at a later time then here is a brief and somewhat dry introduction to the topic.

RECIPROCITY: Humans are more likely to reciprocate, give back something, or be persuaded better if you do them a favor in a nice way first or give them something useful free as a token of your potential generosity.

SCARCITY: If humans sense there is a scarce service or product available which seems to be in short supply then there is a tendency to want to get it right away for fear that it will no longer be available again.

AUTHORITY:  An opinion, advice, or guidance from an authority figure with years of experience or expertise in a job is viewed more favorably than a generic or doubtfully qualified individual’s advice or guidance.

CONSISTENCY: Humans like to be consistent with what they have done in the past and if you can get prior commitment to something then chances are greater that they will follow through when asked again.

LIKING: If you share something that you like in common with a human that you are trying to persuade which may be as simple as a mutually liked food then there is more of a tendency to be persuaded or liking what you have to offer. Humans like others who are similar to them, pay them some nice compliments, and have a cooperative attitude in reaching future goals.

CONSENSUS: If you suggest or present evidence that as many as 75% of humans  who have much in common with the one whom you are trying to persuade  are buying or doing the same thing then the probability that they will also want to buy or do that something increases. This is an example of the herd instinct or wanting to become part of the same crowd of similar humans.

Override: v. to use authority to (replace and/or reject) and/or stop a subset(s) suchas a decision(s) and/or a belief(s)

THE TRUTH ABOUT QUALIFY+

Do I Qualify

Qualify: v. to have the righta requirements for a position of authority and/or for a task(s)

If you have the right requirements for a job or task then you qualify for it.

However, qualifying may not mean immediate acceptance because there are other things like gut feelings and unknown personalities which enter the picture in any delegation of authority.

You may qualify for a position objectively but subjectively you may be turned down because you don’t radiate the right vibes or you have some personality quirks which turn humans off and make them dislike you or cause some fear.

Humans with a bad credit history often have a hard time qualifying for credit cards or car loans at reasonable rates and without good credit or a good job a mortgage loan is next to impossible to get and you basically don’t qualify for it.

THE TRUTH ABOUT STANDARD+

standards_logo-backgroundalpha

Standard: n. a subset(s) considered by an authority or a consensus as a basis of comparison such as (a position on a scale and/or a certain measure) and/or (a principle and/or a model) and/or (a behavioral norm and/or an acceptable deviation) and/or a constant deviation from a subset(s)

Standards are made so that we can judge the excellence or perfection of something.

If you do something trying to be excellent or perfect then the standards will determine whether you have been successful or have come within acceptable limits of performance.

Perfection is frequently the absolute standard which few if any are capable of but it is used to measure human, plant, animal, and robotic performance.

How far from the standard your performance is determines whether it is acceptable or unacceptable and needs improvement.

Test standards are the most common ones which most of us come into contact with when we compare our performance to that of others. Who can run the fastest or throw the furthest is a measure of athletic skill but today mental skill is increasingly more important in determining the success or failure of a human in a technological society.

Reliability, durability, efficiency, ease of repair, ease of use, and beauty are standards used to judge the value of objects such as mechanical and electronic devices.

Beauty and human behavior are very subjective standards and they probably are the only ones which can’t be made into an absolute standard which will meet the test of time unchanged.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SUBMISSION+

images

Submission: n. obeying a superior force and/or authority

Laws, rules, and humans control our lives and the degree to which we obey them is the degree to which we are submissive.

Few individuals in the modern world are totally submissive and obey unquestioningly every law, rule, and human authority figure but to realistically survive in the real world most of us are largely submissive.

In many parts of the world there is still some submissiveness to males in families but in the modern western nations spouses are more equal than in submissive cultures.

Even most criminals are submissive  and obey their own set of laws, rules, and human authority figures.

Superior military force and police forces ensure that submission to superior physical force is still alive and well in the modern world although increasingly superior cyber warfare is beginning to play a dominant role.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SUSPENSION+

Life-with-a-Suspended-License-Kind-of-Sucks

Suspension: n. taking away for a temporary duration (a privilege(s) and/or use of authority) and/or use of a subset(s)

Not all of us have had suspended drivers licenses, been suspended from school, or been suspended from work. Many as offspring have had some privileges suspended for a few days or weeks such as cell phone or TV use, right to go out on weekends, right to drive parental car, and right to have friends over to visit.

Losing the right to a privilege for a relatively short duration is a suspension and often it is the most effective way of disciplining offspring and even adults who are behaving badly.

THE TRUTH ABOUT TERRITORY+

stay-out-of-my-territory

Territory: n. a volume subset(s) of the universe (eg. earth and/or a planet and/or a galaxy) controlled by an authority

Most of us understand territory to be some piece of land and/or water and/or air which belongs to one or more humans unless of course it is wilderness or a planet other than earth and it is galaxies owned by no inhabitant(s).

The history of humankind is in reality the pursuit of territory by inhabiting it or conquering it from other humans and in the worst case scenario by taking territory from wilderness plants and animals.

unqualified

Unqualified: adj. not having the righta requirements for a position of authority and/or for a task(s)

If you don’t have the required knowledge and/or skills for a position of authority and/or a task(s) then you are unqualified to be an authority figure and definitely can’t do the tasks required of you.

THE TRUTH ABOUT VESTING+

vested

Vest: v. to give authority to do and/or possess a subset(s) and/or a set(s)

If you have a vested interest in something(s) such as equity in the stock market that means that you probably own some part of that subset(s) such as some property and/or some equity. Of course you could theoretically own all the stock equity in a public corporation but that is usually not done and is reserved for private corporations only.

Parents also have a vested interest in their offspring and own them to some extent and have the right to demand certain proper social behavior from them to avoid public embarrassment, censure, criticism, or ostracism.

A vested interest in a sport, profession, or activity(s) also means that you have some ownership rights and frequently want that activity(s) to thrive for your benefit and the benefit of others.

Vested interests are the reason for the status quo approach by most who are afraid to lose their vested interests if changes are made in politics, education, economics, law, agriculture, theoretical science, sociology, sports, medicine, psychiatry, relationships, manufacturing, business, and any entrenched profession for that matter.

Necessary change means a change in vested interests and it is obvious some of these vested interests will get hurt financially and so resistance persists until crises demand definitive changes and the present circumstances are no longer tolerable or tolerated by almost anyone.

THE TRUTH ABOUT MUTINY+

Mutiny_logo-289x229

Mutiny: n. willfully and nonfraudulently stealing commanding authority by crew members at sea which may include the murder of the commanding authority

Crew members using force or the threat of force to take over command of a ship is considered a mutiny.

Hijackers or pirates may also forcefully take control of a ship but this is not considered to be a mutiny.

THE TRUTH ABOUT REBELLION+

logo-f01267a307129c82c1299fc509208e84

Rebellion: n. doing violent action(s) and/or disobedience to authority(s)

There is a major difference between a revolt or revolution and a rebellion. A revolt or revolution is an attempt, sometimes violently, to take over or change the leadership and a rebellion is frequently resistance or disobedience, sometimes violent, to one or more laws which you disagree with.

A rebellion is a way of protesting a bad law(s) but it usually does not mean that you also want to take over or change the leadership. Many businesses not paying an unjust licensing fee is a form of rebellion and many taxpayers not paying their taxes is also a form of rebellion.

If enough citizens rebel against or disobey a law then usually those in authority change or eliminate the law unless it is a dictatorship which could then proceed to enforce the law through violent means.

THE TRUTH ABOUT PETITIONS***

digital-signing1

Petition: v. to request by recorded writing which is frequently signed by many humans and which asks an authority to create or update a law(s) which should solve a grievance(s)

Petitions are theoretically the method of last resort to try and get the government to change some terrible laws or fix some terrible grievances. It seems that citizen’s petitions to the national government are either mostly frivolous or not very serious or they are citizens in states wanting to secede from the union.

Local petitions are probably more serious and really try to change laws for the better but most are either the consolidation or dissolution of districts to try and make local government more efficient. Stop trophy hunting is one of the only relatively serious petitions which I have come across on the internet.

I have a few petitions in mind which you may agree or disagree with.

Permit raw organic milk to be sold to humans nationally with refrigerated packages.

No taxation of true organic farming which doesn’t use pesticides, herbicides, artificial fertilizers, or GMO’s and not taxation of organic wholesalers and organic restaurants.

We may have a corrupt inefficient government but at least we can try to all eat healthy so that we have the potential to live healthy lives without medical bills impoverishing us.

THE TRUTH ABOUT COMMANDS***

sit-thumb-300x298-6346

Command: v. to authoritatively demand an animal(s) to do a subset(s)

The lower echelons of the military and fast food workers have a rather strict command structure with exact commands on what to do. Young offspring too are frequently commanded and do relatively a minimum amount of independent thinking.

Obedience training for dogs is an example of a command structure where each command results in some well-defined animal behavior.

Where teamwork is preferable there is more independent decision making going on. If we trust and respect who is giving the commands then we generally obey them but if we don’t trust or respect the commanding party then we may not obey every single command or demand.

Frequently in marriages demands or commands are made and sometimes ignored or severely argued against because most of us do not want to be ordered around or bossed around too much.

Language is designed to facilitate commanding with questions and answers and with yes or no actions or reactions. The kind of thinking demanded by most language usage is black or white, always or never and a very stereotypic kind of thinking which leads to many logical mistakes and an inability to reason accurately when necessary.

Instead of demanding and commanding try more discussion, negotiating, and sharing of ideas and opinions in your personal life.

Historically commanding or bossing humans around was much more popular than today. Parents would command their offspring with strict discipline, men would frequently tell their wives what to do, rulers would command their followers and military leaders, military leaders would command their soldiers, and humans would command and discipline their pets.

Today many parents don’t strictly discipline their offspring, rulers and especially presidents have limited powers to command,  business leaders in many technological companies or creative enterprises emphasize teamwork and not autocratic rule, and spouses try to mutually cooperate in making decisions although one spouse may be more commanding than the other.

Commanding is still a vital and necessary function in western societies and is much more pronounced in other cultures today but the trend is towards much more cooperative strategies of leadership. Power is shared to some extent and all decisions are no longer strictly top down leadership but an exchange of ideas and strategies before a final decision is made.

THE TRUTH ABOUT DELEGATION

480-b5505a6dc6529daf7a33d9b5d8a04720ab7c57a3

Delegation: n. giving one’s authority and/or permission to one frequently lower in rank to do a subset(s) which is frequently a task(s) and/or plan(s)

Trying to do too much with too little time can be personally very stressful with sometimes bad results and delegation of authority is sometimes the answer.

Delegation means that part of your responsibilities or authority is given to an employee who is mentored in what to do and how to do it. It is similar to  apprenticing an employee in a job which they may want to do at some point in the future.

Delegating takes some of the workload off of you and can create a feeling of mutual trust and accomplishment. It can lead to a more self-motivated happy and competent worker who may then be in a better position to take over your job if the need arises when you are promoted in your job.

THE TRUTH ABOUT FLATTERY

flattery

Flattery: n. praised beyond objective need and frequently with some dishonesty

Many fall victim to flattery because most of us like to be praised for looking good and behaving admirably. Flattering your boss or an authority figure is frequently seen as a valid way to get favors in return.

Flattery is frequently excessive praise or it is dishonest praise done to make a human feel good or important and if you believe your flatterers than you run the risk of inaccurately judging your own potential as a human being.

Many celebrities are flattered so much that they lose touch with reality and frequently live lives of isolation from the real world and real humans.

If you are victimized by yes men and yes women which you surround yourself with on a daily basis then you too will lose touch with reality sooner or later to your own personal detriment. There is nothing more helpful than honest criticism to get you back into a more realistic appraisal of your real abilities and potential.

Flattery is BS praise which you should be aware of and you should try to avoid the flatterers as much as possible to live sanely in the real world.

Imitation is sometimes considered a form of flattery but it is sometimes harmful to your bottom line or economic existence. Plagiarism is a form of flattery if you consider imitation to be flattery and it should be considered an intellectual property crime in many circumstances.

THE TRUTH ABOUT DEMANDS

demand_logo

Demand:  v. to communicate an urgent need and/or desire that someone do a subset(s) and sometimes with a threat of force and frequently getting another or others to achieve that need and/or desire.

Not all demands succeed with 100% certainty, especially parental demands on rebellious children or demands on complete strangers. Both are sometimes unwilling to comply with or obey your demands.

A command and demand are frequently confused. A command is and authoritative demand which is seldom questioned and frequently obeyed.

A demand is also frequently done by an authority human but the success of it being fulfilled is frequently less than a command.

Demands are sometimes also done by subordinates on authority humans if they feel in some way that the authority human is wrong or is doing an injustice. An overworked employee may make a demand for a salary increase from the boss and threaten to quit if the demand is not met.

In a marital relationship demands are sometimes made but almost no one likes to be bossed around so the demand is frequently met with resistance and/or disobedience. A demand communicated as a request can frequently have a greater probability of being fulfilled. Requesting such as “I am asking you to do me a favor” or ” It would be nice if you could do that” is frequently more successful than saying “do it!”

In business there is an inverse relationship between supply and demand. The bigger the demand the less the supply becomes and there is either scarcity or frequently and increase in price. Too big a supply frequently means abundance which is frequently accompanied by a price decrease.

THE TRUTH ABOUT COMPETENCE

competence1

Competence: n. having the skills and/or knowledge and/or experience and/or attitude to do something within a known normative standard

Nothing is more frustrating and disappointing than incompetent service, incompetent professionals, incompetent car mechanics, and worse of all, an incompetent boss. Competence takes years of learning knowledge, learning necessary skills, having adequate on the job experience, and having the right attitude.

Frequently you get the most competent service from someone who has a good dependable reputation and is trustworthy and has given good service to other humans who respect and maybe even admire them. Word of mouth is sometimes useful in helping you to decide on the competence of a human but ultimately your appraisal of the service rendered to you is the most important.

Many competent humans have good social skills also and know how to interact with humans emotionally. They know their customers or workers and make an effort to please them in a genuine friendly way. They have the right attitude towards all types of humans both good and bad and can frequently differentiate between the two and act accordingly.

Introverts may not seem as social and emotional as extroverts but they are frequently very effective on the job and many are competent communicators about their job. They may be a little reserved in their interaction with random humans who don’t seem to have much relevance in their lives.

There is no such thing as a competent company but it can be a company with a good trustworthy reputation which has competent workers to service their customers.

Depending on the job a boss can be more authoritarian or more of a team player and the competence needs in each category are a unique set of skills and knowledge which are frequently not interchangeable.

Competent parents and competent relationships are decreasing due to a decrease in morality taught to impressionable young minds, due to a great hardship in landing and maintaining a good job, due to profligate spending and large credit card debt, due to bad celebrity role models, and due to the general promiscuous nature of western society. Secure families are imploding and more and more humans are having dysfunctional relationships with each other and with the opposite sex.

Competence in personal relationships and competence in a job can result in a relatively happy life with most of the basic human needs being satisfied.

THE TRUTH ABOUT AUTHORITY

images (1)

Authority: n. having powerh and/or legal rights over a subset(s) which results in (giving orders to the subset(s) and/or making decisions for the subset(s)) and/or (exerting physical force on the subset(s) and/or (conserving and/or expanding) the subset(s)) and/or passing laws for the subset(s)

Authority humans give us orders, pass laws, make decisions for us and sometimes exert physical and/or mental force on us in the form of violence, threats of violence and/or demands. If we feel that the authority is just then we tend to obey but if authority is unjust then we may choose to disobey or even revolt against the authority in overt and/or covert ways.

Older offspring, parents, teachers, coaches, organization leaders, scientists, and politicians are authority humans and we may like or love them if they are just or seem just or disapprove of or even hate them if they are or seem unjust.

Emotions play a dominant role in our attitude towards authorities and if they are honest, sincere, dependable, competent, and trustworthy then we generally respect and even admire them and have a tendency to obey them or take their advice with relatively little resistance.

If the authority human is unjust or dishonest, insincere, not dependable, untrustworthy, and incompetent then we have a tendency to disobey or ignore them and not take their advice or demands on important matters in our life.

The lead are expected to have moral behavior but leaders, especially at the top, frequently feel that morality does not apply to them and they can be unjust with humans and other nations and get away with it. For leaders sometimes the end justifies the means and they will murder, lie, deceive, steal, and commit adultery if their goals of more powerh and money are achieved.

True world peace will only come when the leaders obey the morality which is expected from the led. Two or more immoral nations will never be able to reach mutually beneficial relationships and peace between them if they act immorally towards each other.

For all nations to live in peace with one another they must have the same secular moral code. Except in emergencies-don’t destroy biodiversity, don’t lie, don’t be inefficient, don’t steal, don’t commit adultery if married, and don’t murder.

Big money is trying to rule the world but Putin just stole the Crimea with physical force and China is stealing intellectual property. Yes, big money is the enemy of little money and has a powerhful advantage and the ability to exploit and/or enslave little money so even free trade is not the ultimate solution to justice in this world.

Big money is more powerhful than little money. Free trade must be coupled with moral behavior between nations and moral behavior within a nation. It is obvious that the world must have just international laws and nations must have just national laws which are mirror images of just international laws.

There is authority over real estate and the right to change it in legal manners. Wilderness real estate is the most precious and vital to future generation survival so authority must be given to conserve and even expand it in its pristine existence.

There is also authority over information and/or goods and/or services and this powerh should be used wisely and justly and not greatly impede the efficiency of its just distribution to the humans of the world.

I advocate those new just laws in my evergreen truth books NEW UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS, NEW CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES, CHANGES IN WELFARE LAWS, and JUSTICE.

Authority: n. having power or legal rights over another which results in (giving orders to another and/or making decisions for another) and/or exerting physical force on another
