There are religious, scientific, and secular beliefs which are strongly held by humans.
Muslims and some Jews still have some pretty strong beliefs which guide their lives but most in the west no longer feel that religion need play a dominant role in their lives and the result is that there are no longer strong religious beliefs which guide humans in their lives. Many fall victim to a rather promiscuous and hedonistic life with very lax morality.
Secular beliefs in paranormal activity, the supernatural, aliens, ufos, ghosts, and horoscopes are dominant themes but they don’t impact the moral behavior of humans that much.
Many still believe in God, in a soul, and some form of afterlife.
The debate between creationism of the bible and evolution is absurd. Both are creationist philosophies because both assume there is a beginning and end to the universe. The big bang also assumes that the universe was born out of an infinitely small point in space in an instant and will die at some point in the very distant future.
The factual real truth may actually be that the universe has been around for an eternity and will continue to exist on into eternity just changing shapes and forms.
Science believes that the universe can be explained mathematically but unfortunately mathematics as a tool for explaining the universe is rather poor. There are unexplained singularities in mathematics arising from the concepts of zero and infinity and dimensions. Three dimensions in space along the x,y, an z axis all starting at zero and ending in infinity can’t explain the very small and the very big very well.
The human variables in life arising from living and using language are so many that human behavior will never be explained mathematically with cause and effect relationships or correspondences between variables such as poorly defined anger, love, hate, jealousy, empathy, lying, revenge, thirst, anxiety, fear, etc.
No moral code is possible to discover in science because human behavior can be fitted to respond to many moral code variations and none can be said to be the best and tested and proved in a laboratory environment.
Science with it’s experimental bias will never prove that humans need to make good moral judgments in an impulsive way to ensure peaceful interactions with other humans in the world. Impulsive good moral judgments about how to behave must be indoctrinated into young impressionable minds so they don’t lie, steal, and commit adultery if married as adults.
Offspring should be taught the importance of saving biodiversity worldwide and they should be as efficient in their daily lives as possible not wasting time, energy, and money in trivial pursuits which pollute the environment and endanger the long duration health of future generations.
With these important considerations in mind an updated moral code for offspring is-except in emergency situations-don’t destroy biodiversity, don’t lie, don’t be inefficient, don’t steal, don’t commit adultery if married, and don’t murder.
If you want to live well then you need to believe in a moral code which guides your life impulsively. You may come up with a different version than mine but try to believe in one which suits your life to optimize your success in life with other humans.
Belief: n. personally judging that something is true or untrue with a very large degree of probability which frequently is 100% probability and/or a conscious and/or sub conscious reaction to an action.
The belief is frequently almost impossible to change if it is not challenged by scientific facts or pressure from a relatively large number of humans with an opposite belief(s)
All beliefs are conscious and/or sub conscious reactions to the environment or stimuli and beliefs also motivate our thinking and dreams. Beliefs are in effect mentally programmed reactions to the mental and external impulses and are the way that our body and mind reacts at any moment.
Sometimes the reaction is a conscious judgment of what the right or wrong thing to do is but much more frequently we are in automatic mode and we react impulsively with little or no logical thinking effort. What you believe determines how you will react to the world in and around you. Your mind impulsively and emotionally reacts to the environment in most cases and it is rare that you use your logical thinking ability to stop for a while and make conscious logical decisions.
You may disagree that your body is guided by sub conscious beliefs but it is TRUE because your body has been conditioned to avoid pain and suffering with a preference for pleasure and happiness. Your mind believes that touching hot stoves, doing physically risky things, and risking social censure is a no no and your body and mind will react impulsively to avoid those bad behaviors and bad consequences.
An opinion is a transient belief which frequently changes if confronted by logical reasoning or experiences which nullify the opinion.
We are all motivated by our beliefs and opinions so it is important for humans to change their beliefs, opinions, and the resulting behaviors if they are not reaching their goals or if the beliefs and opinions are proven to be untrue. One should not fear changing beliefs as long as it is not a change in basic moral behavior or a change from good behavior to bad.
I will believe in something as long as it is true and as long as I don’t have experiences which change or destroy those beliefs. This is a good philosophy to have and it is the proper way for humans to adapt to necessary changes in their lives and still maintain a secure and confident attitude.
You can have moral beliefs till the day that you die and you may not need to change them. One moral code which you should believe in for a lifetime is-except in emergency situations-don’t destroy biodiversity, don’t lie, don’t be inefficient, don’t steal, don’t commit adultery if married, and don’t murder.
Finally all my beliefs are not your beliefs and some are fortunate to live in a western society which tolerates deviating beliefs to some extent and we can live and let live.
I am convinced that if all my beliefs were made public there would be massive disagreement because I believe in the truth and telling it like it really is and not how most humans are taught to believe. I am the enemy of lies, myths, and deceptions and the truth is the enemy of lies, myths, and deceptions. The truth is one of my life’s obsessions.
Society is riddled with deceptions, myths, and common beliefs which we historically inherited and they are so strongly held emotionally that logical reason alone will not change this unfortunate circumstance. If you think that truth should ultimately prevail for the betterment of humankind then read my evergreen truth blogs and books and get enlightened!!!
If you liked this evergreen truth blog then read more of them, approximately 700 so far, and one or more of my evergreen truth books, especially COMMON SENSE, rays of truth in a human world filled with myths and deceptions.
Enjoy!!!!!!
