THE TRUTH ABOUT SARCASM***

December-02-2011-00-50-45-random7

Sarcasm: n. using irony to ridicule and show contempt

A few examples will suffice but there are tens of examples.

When someone does something wrong – you contemptuously say Very good, well done, nice!

The irony is that you unexpectedly say nice or good to something bad and your tone of voice can be slightly exaggerated and demeaning or contemptuous with a hint of ridicule.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

The irony is that you take long walks with humans that you like but you prefer annoying humans to take long walks alone so they don’t bother you. The contempt expressed is for annoying humans.

Let’s share. You’ll take the grenade. I’ll take the pin.

The irony is that sharing is usually done for mutual benefit and if you blow yourself up with a grenade then you kill yourself. Sharing implies liking someone and it is not someone you want killed. You are actually ridiculing the human and expressing a cloaked dislike or contempt for them.

THE TRUTH ABOUT CONTEMPT***

2014-06-18 19.05.55

Contempt: n. sensing very intense disapproval frequently with hatred because of a belief in the (moral and/or behavioral) and/or physical inferiority of a subset(s)

We frequently feel contempt towards humans and behaviors which we believe are inferior and don’t meet our moral and/or physical standards. We frequently don’t want to help a contemptible human but rather feel that there would be no great loss if that human died.

Contemptuous feelings have historically been the motivation for genocide and inhuman treatment of others.  Feelings of superiority are dangerous because what frequently follows is a belief that the inferior should not have a right to exist on the planet and if they do exist then they deserve extreme hardship or misery in their lives.

Historically immoral and criminal activity was held in contempt and resulted in cruel and unusual punishments. Serial killers are held in contempt and the death penalty is frequently used to end their lives. The desire to kill or destroy contemptible things is an important part of human nature and it must be civilized if justice is to be maintained and unnecessary suffering is to be considerably reduced.

THE TRUTH ABOUT CONTEMPT

nl-620-contempt-sign-201103

Contempt: n. believing a subset(s)’s (appearance and/or behavior(s)) and/or action(s) are (bad and/or wrong) and/or inferior to a relatively large degree and not to be respected and also frequently hating the subset(s) for (bad and/or wrong) and/or (inferior and/or immoral)(behavior(s) and/or action(s))

A contemptuous feeling frequently originates from a feeling of superiority, disrespect, and even hate for a human(s) and/or their actions.

The feeling of superiority may originate from a feeling that the human is genetically inferior, educationally inferior, or has a menial job and is financially very poor.

Disrespect may originate from a feeling that the human is immoral or is incompetent in doing things.

Hate may originate from a desire or wish that a human did not exist at all and be a part of your life experience.

In India the untouchable class was frequently held in contempt by other Indians because they were considered one step higher than pond scum.
