THE TRUTH ABOUT AFFAIR*

affair

Affair: n. a reference to a previous communicated set of events

When you say that the affair was settled justly then you are saying that a previous set of events such as claims and counterclaims of wrongdoing were settled or resolved and often to mutual satisfaction.

A love affair refers to previous loving behavior and the events associated with it. When adultery or infidelity is involved it is now simply called an affair which attempts to hide the severe immorality of the events, especially a sexual relationship outside of marriage.

THE TRUTH ABOUT WORRY*

the-worry-chart-495x342

Worry: v. to be excessively (concerned and anxious and uncertain) and wasting thinking time with a (real and/or imagined) (future and/or present) (danger(s) and/or event(s)) and/or subset(s)

Some worry is a natural human reaction to potential dangers and/or events and concern, anxiety, and uncertainty about the future is normal.

When worry is excessive then you are wasting much time thinking about horrible things which may happen and in most cases the worrying is really a waste of time since you often can’t change what the future will bring by just thinking about it. Also the horrible thoughts often don’t come close to future reality which is much more benign in most cases.

If the worry leads to or motivates preventative thoughts and actions to avoid future problems then the worrying has not been useless or wasted time.

THE TRUTH ABOUT BARRIER+

barrier-sin-communication-skills-11-6-638

Barrier: n. a subset(s) which (stops and/or delays) and/or decreases (movement and/or an event(s))

A wall or fence is the common barrier which we are familiar with but there are also electromagnetic barriers and sunscreen lotion which acts as a barrier to ultraviolet radiation from the sun.

There is also an energy barrier or an end to vigorous physical activity when your energy sources are used up or you have gone for too long without sleep.

Not so obvious are social barriers put up by the leadership in many organizations which make it exceedingly hard to gain social status in society without meeting the requirements of those social barriers. Financial wealth is an example of a social barrier which many simply will never be able to achieve so that they can truly exert social influence and have social prestige.

Cultural, ideological, and religious barriers are reasons that there is no permanent peace in the world and this is exceedingly obvious in the struggle of radical Muslim dogma with the modern western social norms.

THE TRUTH ABOUT CHANCE+

Chance: n. an event(s) which seems to have no meaningful and/or overt cause

There are still many humans who believe that luck or chance plays a major role in human lives and don’t actively take steps to improve themselves and make long duration goals in their lives. Many things happen which don’t seem to have meaningful causes and if they have a cause then it is an overt one and not a covert one.

If you believe that randomness rules the world then you will forever be under the influence of chance events which you really can’t prepare for. The truth is that there is always some randomness or chance in your life but you ultimately can do much about your circumstances in life with conscientious active determination and goal making and trying to achieve those goals with deliberate effort.

THE TRUTH ABOUT HOPE*

minimalwall-hope-10-78-1

Hope: v. to desire a goal(s) and/or an event(s) which frequently doesn’t have a great probability of existence in the future

Some of us have realistic hopes for the future but unfortunately many of us are burdened with disappointing unrealistic hopes which never are achieved nor can realistically be achieved. It is one thing to exist in everlasting unrealistic hope and not do much to achieve that end and it is another more prudent approach to actively work at trying to make realistic hopes a reality.

The “failures” in life sometimes place their last hopes in luck or the lottery and the more successful ones try mightily to improve themselves and their achievements in life no matter what their age.

Most of us should be thankful that we don’t exist in circumstances where our primary hope is just to survive to live another day.

THE TRUTH ABOUT INEXPERIENCE*

mon

Inexperience: n. not having interacted with an event(s)

Inexperience is one of the greatest handicaps which a new job searcher has because it means that he or she will be starting from the beginning and having to learn all the unique job skills necessary for a job on the job. Jobs with no or bad supervision or no mentoring are not the ideal location for an inexperienced worker to be working at.

A mentoring or apprenticeship program at each job location as is done in many European countries is not a bad idea for the US even though the fast development pace of technology is making it hard to have mentoring programs for many tech jobs which are constantly being updated or changed.

If you are inexperienced in business then don’t try to start a new one until you save up some capital and get experience actually managing or working in one at many levels before you venture forth on your own.

THE TRUTH ABOUT STORY+

YourStory_Media-Logo

Story: n. a communication which (uses a series of connected events and/or an interacting human(s)) and the corresponding descriptions are factual and/or fictitious and it is a communication which tries to entertain and/or to inform

A good story will get your point across to the public frequently better than a discussion or a debate. Unfortunately stories these days have to be dramatic, exciting, and entertaining which means that they often depart from reality and are exaggerated excursions into biased propaganda where truth often suffers and subjective emotional reactions reign supreme.

Stories have a tendency to be too verbose which many modern readers have no patience for. The art of story telling will have to undergo a revolution in style if it is to survive the impatience of modern human readers.

Trick: n. events and/or a subset(s) used in a deception and/or fraud

Tricks can be benevolent such as deceptions practiced by magicians and illusionists. Tricks can also be used to defraud you or deceive you into believing something untrue to be true or can be used to sell you stuff which you don’t really need but may be convinced to want with trickery.

Sometimes tricks are harmless fun but usually no one wants to be a fool who falls for tricks so try not to use tricks too often on a human who may then begin to feel that you are not really honest with them all the time.

THE TRUTH ABOUT PARTICIPATION*

participation

Participation: n. being a lifeform subset of an event(s)

Actively participating in a sport, game, musical performance, driving, or job is something many of us do. There is also passive participation and that basically means that you are a spectator of a sport, game, musical performance, or video show.

What we would like to participate in is usually determined by what other humans are enjoying participating in and we basically follow the leader or role model and try to do what they are participating in.

Animals can also participate in events and wilderness animals and plants participate in the struggle for survival in the wilderness.

Until: adj. reference to a time(s) and/or an event(s)’s existence

Until when or until something(s) happens is the way we usually use until with a reference to time and/or an event(s) existence.

Easily understood is “I will wait until 10 AM tomorrow” or “I won’t do it until it stops raining”.  Combined it is saying “I will wait until 8AM to get the car fixed by Joe or Helen when they start to work”.

THE TRUTH ABOUT REASONABLE SUSPICION*

trafficstop.256180427_std

Suspicion: n. judging intuitively with little evidence that a subset(s) is a probable cause of an event(s) in the past and/or the future

Guess: v. to make a judgment and/or estimation without adequate knowledge for certainty

Hunch: n. bad intuitive guessing usually not based on adequate facts

REASONABLE SUSPICION: n. A subjective intuitive guess that a subset(s) (has a higher than 50% probability of existence and/or is a probable cause of an event(s) in the past and/or the future)

Humans are not statistical mathematical machines who can calculate statistical probabilities and differentiate between a chance 50% occurrence and one greater than a chance occurrence. Most human judgments by law enforcers are made based on prior experience under similar circumstances and are largely probable guesses based on prior experience(s).

It is foreseeable that in the future robot policemen will be doing police word so I left in the 50% part of the definition so that computer policemen of the future will be able to make statistical probability guesses based on the evidence. However, such a situation is far into the future so most policemen should not worry that their jobs will soon be in jeopardy like all the other jobs being discontinued in society due to obsolescence.

A new officer of the law is less competent to make a judgment of reasonable suspicion than an experienced officer and will make a larger number of mistakes in judging reasonable suspicion. Reasonable suspicion is an intuitive guess that something exists.

Are all officers of the law are equal in competence to assess reasonable suspicion? No, the seasoned veterans are the ones most qualified to make guesses about probable law breaking or criminal behavior.  Are all officers equally competent to make decisions in the field? No.

If you are a young and inexperienced officer starting out then you are not equal in competence to one that has been on the police force for 10 or 20 years observing and evaluating human behavior. A young officer will make worse guesses about what is actually going on in reality and that is his or hers major weakness or flaw in starting out in the profession.

As a young officer starting out and asked what the probable cause for being stopped and interrogated is? He or she will be less competent in coming up with the right reason(s) and the reasons must be more certain than just hunches or bad guesses.

What is the probable cause and how many years have you been on the police force are two questions which are very valid and must be answered by any officer of the law if asked.

Open container laws are unjust and just because there is an open container of beer or wine with any amount of drink in it does not mean that you should be subject to a fine because the ultimate test is a breath test to see if the human has exceeded the legal limit for drinking behind the wheel or not.

In the near future a request by an officer to take a breathalyzer test for weaving in traffic with an open container will have to be obeyed since factual proof is necessary before any fine is assessed.

I personally like to drink some beer while driving rather than soda or some other drink and I should not have to put up with overly zealous onlookers calling 911 to notify the police that someone is drinking an alcoholic beverage behind the wheel of a car and wasting taxpayer’s money by making an officer stop the vehicle or follow it. I don’t like to secretly drink beer within a bag to hide the fact that I am drinking an alcoholic beverage behind the wheel.

There is a great difference between drinking while driving and being drunk while driving! Sipping a beer behind the wheel is probable cause for stopping someone and interrogating them? No. There is not even reasonable suspicion unless the driver is also violating some other factual traffic law like driving too slow and much under the speed limit.

THE TRUTH ABOUT UNIMPORTANCE***

slide_355796_3908056_free

Unimportance: n. minimum or no attention and/or resources given to a subset(s) frequently because samer subset(s) is judged subjectively to have (minimal value and/or minimal rank) and/or minimum power to affect a circumstance(s)

What is important and unimportant? This is largely a subjective question and what is important in your life may not be that important in other lives. We all have our own personal priorities of what is important and unimportant in our lives and donate our attention and resources to things which we consider important to us.

The rich and powerful may not consider the trivial things in your life to be that important but to you they may be things vital to your relationships and financial survival. Microbes may not be important in your life until you come down with a microbe illness. Politics, economics, and education may not be of great concern to you because you may feel that you have so little control over them.

Many of us waste much time, effort, and money on relatively trivial and unimportant things which have become bad habits if viewed objectively. One of the primary reasons for success is that you have learned to exclude or avoid the unimportant things in your life and have learned to concentrate on the truly important things in your life which includes the pursuit of old and new useful goals.

As you live circumstances change and you age so priorities change along with your aging. What was unimportant as an offspring suddenly becomes important as an adult. Retirement is also frequently a time of great change and readjusting of your priorities in life and correspondingly what you consider unimportant and important.

If something is unimportant then you probably don’t pay any attention to it and you definitely do not devote your time, energy, and money on it. What is unimportant is relative to each human and what one feels is very important may not be important to someone else.

A farmer may feel that the weather is very important whereas a city dweller in the southern belt of the USA may not be in the least concerned whether it rains or shines from one day to the next.

For many women shopping for clothes is important but for many men it is frankly a big pain in the butt and can get very expensive if you buy too many clothes which you don’t wear on a daily basis.

To some sports are important but to others they just think it is a big waste of time and unimportant watching grown men and women play with balls which are only different in weight, size, material, and shape from one sport to the next.

THE TRUTH ABOUT REPETITION***

08212012figure_a

Repetition: n. doing an event(s) more than once with or without duration(s) in between

Repetition is a fact of life. We walk, talk, eat, drink, sit, and go to and from work many times. Walking and talking and eating is not considered repetition unless we walk to the same place, say the same words, or eat the same food, etc.. Some jobs are relatively repetitious and maybe even boring with nothing new happening but merely a repetition of a daily routine.

Sometimes we are asked to repeat something that we said and repeating words such as hi, good bye, please, and thank you are a very common occurrence.

Practice is also a form of repetition and it is something done to learn a new skill or new knowledge. Once we learn something that we practice we frequently repeat it in our lives when necessary. Good and bad habits are really behaviors which are repeated over and over again frequently for a lifetime.

If you don’t like a bad habit then don’t repeat it so frequently. If you want to develop a good habit then you have to repeat some behavior over and over again as many times as is needed to form a good new habit which is eventually done automatically.

THE TRUTH ABOUT PREVENTION

prevention2

Prevention: n. stopping a probable future event(s) and this may be achieved by some previous event(s) and/or by making and/or placing a barrier(s)

You can stop an event(s) temporarily by delaying it or stop it entirely by cancelling it. You can also prevent something from happening by placing a barrier(s) around or in front of it.

You can prevent an animal from escaping by putting up a fence or putting it in a cage. You can also prevent a failing grade by studying hard before a test or planning ahead for it. You can prevent accidents with careful behavior and ill health can frequently be prevented by eating organic and getting moderate exercise.

Some events are not preventable so you can either ignore them or avoid them and not be affected by them directly. Other events such as divorce are largely preventable if you marry the right spouse but unfortunately sometimes no matter how carefully you plan ahead you can’t prevent something bad from happening.

If you know what you are doing then an ounce of prevention is frequently worth a pound of cure.

THE TRUTH ABOUT APATHY***

Apathy

Apathy: n. sensing and/or showing minimal motivation

Apathy is being minimally motivated to react or act on an event(s) which  exists in our lives.

Voter apathy is frequently a fact of life and the reason may be that human’s have more important priorities in their lives or that they genuinely feel that their vote will not make a significant difference in their lives so they choose not to vote.

Apathy has a tendency to disappear if you sense that your actions will have some effect on the outcome of a situation and will benefit you in some way.

The powerless who are not struggling to survive are frequently the most apathetic humans because they sense that they have nothing hugely important to do which will change their lives for the better.

Personal and national crises frequently shock you out of your apathy.

THE TRUTH ABOUT PROBABILITY

Probability

You will probably eat, go to the bathroom, work, communicate, and drive a car almost every day. These things have a very high probability or are certain.

Less probable things done on a weekly or monthly basis are shopping, filling up a gas tank, going to a movie, going to a restaurant, paying rent or a mortgage, getting paid, and meeting a friend in person.

On a yearly basis you may go on vacation, go to the dentist, and pay your taxes.

In a lifetime you may marry once or twice, have more than a handful of jobs, have health problems, and live in more than a handful of locations. These are rather common things which most of us do and there is a high probability that they will exist or happen in our lives.

Not so probable things are getting the job of your dreams, making much money, marrying a soul mate, and traveling to some truly awesome places in the world.

The truth is that through invested time, effort, and achievement you can sometimes increase the probability of getting what you really want in life. By just living casually day by day and not budgeting your money you will probably not get much of what you think you want out of life.

The probability of things which will exist in your life is determined by chance to some extent because we frequently can’t avoid accidents, medical crises, and sudden financial reversals in our life, especially if we are big risk takers. Opportunity in life sometimes comes by chance but if we haven’t prepared for it then it may pass us by and we may regret it for the rest of our lives.

At the two extremes there are humans who let things happen and there are those who try to make things happen in their favor. Most of us let things happen and relatively infrequently try to make important things happen in our lives with careful planning and preparation.

What is the probability that you will live a long and prosperous happy life? No one really knows for sure but if you eat healthy, exercise moderately, never give up, continue to struggle trying to solve everyday problems, and try to learn new useful skills and knowledge then the probability that you will have an interesting life without many regrets increases greatly.

There are probable things in your life which you will frequently and relatively easily do in your life and then there are the improbable things which will just happen to you or happen because of time, effort, achievement, and money spent to make them happen even though the odds against it happening are rather great.

Knowing what the highly improbable things are in life or the impossible things are is important because you can waste a tremendous amount of valuable time, effort, and money trying to make the impossible possible in your life. A life filled with failure, frustration, and depressing disappointment is what awaits you if you don’t set realistic goals and don’t try to achieve possible realistic goals in your life and focus on the impossible instead.

If you don’t have an excellent memory and talent to become a celebrity in the nation or internationally then try to become a celebrity or someone outstanding locally or in an important local profession.

You may only have the potential to become a big fish in a little pond but not have the potential to become a big fish in a big pond. Most of us have to content ourselves with being little fish in a little pond or big pond and that is perfectly acceptable since most of us lead rather normal or mundane lives and have no great urge to excel at anything truly important in society.

Having a happy family and doing a bucket list of interesting things in life is enough of a challenge for most of us and fewer each year are succeeding at even living this kind of a marginal traditional lifestyle.

If you are leading most of your life living the single lifestyle then you can even be content with this because you have the freedom to live life your way without making compromises with a significant other. Not reproducing or not having offspring is also not a disaster because what the polluted world needs least of all is another mouth to feed in a sea of overpopulated humanity.

Death is a certainty for all of us so make the best of life between now and then so that you will have a minimum of regrets on your death bed!!!!!!

THE TRUTH ABOUT ATTRACTION

Physical-attraction-is-commom-and-mental-connection-is-rare

Attraction (human): n. (causing a desire to approach and/or causing a desire to spend time with) and/or (causing a desire to participate with and/or causing a desire to focus physically and/or mentally upon a subset(s) and/or set(s)) and/or (causing a desire for pleasure and/or causing a desire to do a subset(s))

In the most general terms attraction is causing a desire to do something(s). If you desire something(s) then you are attracted to that something(s).

We desire to surround ourselves with and/or stay close to the things which attract us. It may be a possession(s) and/or a human(s) and/or an event(s) such as a game and/or an environment such as the wilderness which we like or even love. When we leave the things which we like, love, or desire then we may feel regretful or sad and hope to return at some point in time.

When we are attracted to something then we generally approach it, spend time with it, participate in it, watch it, and find pleasure in interacting with it or just watching it.

What attracts us to a human? It may be his or her looks, the personality, the behavior, and status in society. We may like or love to interact with the human but sometimes we may be forced to interact with the human because we need the money from the job and not necessarily the human whom we may even dislike. We are attracted to humans because we basically like or love them but also sometimes because we need them for our own survival both physical and mental.

We are frequently attracted to things which we find pleasure in but sometimes it is because we need those things and humans for our financial survival and they give us the opportunity of pleasure by spending the money later on.

Generally or frequently we are attracted to or desire things which give us pleasure and/or things which we need for our (financial and/or physical) and/or mental survival. Mental survival or psychological survival means that we frequently desire to interact with humans who don’t threaten our beliefs and/or opinions.

Yes, we may be attracted to or desire physically dangerous or risky adventures and crave a debate which challenges our beliefs and opinions but we still hope to physically and mentally survive after the event(s) is over.

THE TRUTH ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY

cw photography

Photography has two major flaws which make it an imperfect art in many cases. It frequently leaves the background and/or foreground out of focus and frequently doesn’t take an action photo at the most interesting moment.

These two flaws are probably why action photography or videos are fast replacing still photography as a preferable form of recording nature and events. If a picture is worth a thousand words then a video is worth hundreds of thousands of words.

Amateur photography, the cell phone, and the internet have greatly cut into the profitability of photography.  There are few who can successfully survive making a living just doing wedding shots, magazine photos, or celebrity photos.

Photoshop and other photography software have opened the floodgates of photographic creativity but the skill required is becoming more complex and  fewer choose to spend the time necessary to master the needed skills.

Photography is not really a dying profession but it is getting increasingly harder to make a living at it.
