Your memory may not be that good which is important in managerial positions or you may not be energetic or self driven enough and may be lazy, a procrastinator, and always trying to take the easy way out. Yes, a great memory, being a fast learner, and being supper energetic are characteristics you often need to make an exceptional impact in life.

In sports it helps if you have been physically gifted with excellent coordination, endurance, great muscle memory, and strength. Yes, some humans are born with the right muscle structure and type to run the fastest and some of the best acrobats are born with natural flexibility much beyond the average. It is a sad fact of life that humans are born unequal with different natural strengths and weaknesses. It greatly helps if you are born with a high IQ or incredible physical abilities. Yes, without natural talent you still may be able to make it with smart hard work but you also run the risk of premature burnout mentally or physically. Yes, it is also true that without hard smart work a high IQ or great physical ability will be largely wasted and you may still not amount to very much in life.

The basic sources for unhappiness are a difficult job, bad management, bad coworkers, and bad personal work and coping skills. Here in more detail I outline things which can cause you to be unhappy.

Comparing yourself to others.

If you compare yourself to coworkers and find out that they are smarter than you, get more work done, have a better relationship with the boss, have a happier family life, do more exciting or interesting things away from work, have a new car or bigger house, and travel a lot then you might begin to feel inadequate and the comparison can begin to become a source of dissatisfaction and unhappiness for you.

If you try to imitate them then you may get into debt up to your neck and then you will really have a reason to be unhappy. Comparisons can be a source for happiness and pride in oneself if you are better than your coworkers but if not then comparisons are very frustrating and can cause much unhappiness.

Obsessing over things which you can’t control.

If you worry too much about a failing company because of outdated practices or bad management or worry too much about bad coworkers making your life miserable then you will be unhappy. You can’t control company policy nor bad workers so don’t obsess about it and make your life unhappy. Instead start preparing or looking for a better job elsewhere.

Overcommiting yourself or your team.

Making promises above and beyond the call of duty which you or your team can’t fulfill will often result in failure and disappointment which will definitely be a source of unhappiness.

Making excuses for mistakes and failure.

You may blame a mistake or failure on insufficient time, too hard a task, bad advice or interference from coworkers, and problems at home and not try to avoid making the mistake or failing again a second time. Trying to avoid responsibility for your own failed actions will be a source of ongoing unhappiness.

Hating others.

A boss or coworker may greatly offend you with insults, put downs, name calling, humiliation, and ridicule once in a while. If you can change this then take action and if not it is best to try and forgive and forget instead of wallowing in hatred wasting time, energy, and health while feeling unhappy.

Wallowing in past mistakes and wrongs.

Spending too much time thinking about past mistakes and wrongs inflicted on you will make you unhappy. Instead try to learn from your mistakes and wrongs inflicted on you and move forward with courageous optimism trying to avoid a repetition of a bad past.

Trying to “win” every argument.

Trying to win every argument is unrealistically trying to show that you are never wrong. It is best not to argue in the first place which is a primitive way of forcing your opinion on someone. Give in sometimes and concentrate on what is to be done next rather than doggedly standing your ground and both feeling unhappy about the circumstance.

Wasting precious time and energy on malice and gossip.

Sometimes unkind and untrue rumors are spread about a human. Ask yourself how you would feel if the same gossip was spread about you. More importantly find out if the doubtful rumor is true before you spread it further because your honest reputation will suffer and it will be a source of future unhappiness if it is not true.

Worrying what others think of you.

If you have integrity then there is no reason why you should worry if others think less of you and feel unhappy about it. You can’t change their thoughts and frankly it is not your business to read other human minds in the first place.

Blaming others or your job for your unhappiness.

If you feel you have a bad job and/or bad coworkers who are making you unhappy then make the best of it and start preparing for or looking for a better job. Ultimately you are making yourself unhappy because you should be in charge of your emotions. Dissatisfaction with a working environment need not make you unhappy if you don’t let it.

A messy work area.

A messy work area means less efficient work ability causing wasted time looking for misplaced paperwork and objects which can be a source for some unhappiness.

Not taking time to daydream, relax, exercise in place, snack, or meditate on the job.

Nothing is more stressful on the mind and body with possible premature burnout than working feverishly without taking any breaks. The bad emotional and physical effects of overworking can make you very unhappy.

Not getting enough revitalizing sleep.

If you don’t get enough sleep at night your tiredness will adversely affect your work performance the next day and can cause much unhappiness with more mistakes and failure than usual.

Procrastination or wasting time.

Procrastination may mean not meeting a deadline or making mistakes and failing trying to rush a task in the last few hours or minutes. Bad work results can mean much unhappiness and being labeled as being lazy.

Not setting priorities.

Some tasks are more important than others and should be done first. Not properly prioritizing tasks means less efficient working resulting in bad performance and much complaining from management which will make you unhappy.

Being rude, arrogant, mean, deceitful, and disrespectful.

These are just some of the many personality flaws which you may have which will destroy good relationships with coworkers and may eventually get you fired by management causing great unhappiness either way.

Develop emotional intelligence:

Only about a third of the population is consciously aware of their emotional reactions when they happen or have emotional control and awareness. Those that do understand and can tolerate strong negative emotions in others without aggressively lashing out with defensive anger are also not easily frustrated.

Emotional intelligence is largely learned by much experience or interaction with many diverse humans and it is an ability to read, empathize, and react appropriately with other humans. My educated guess is that having emotionally intelligent parents, coming from a family with many offspring, being a leader of school activities, and socializing much all help in making you more emotionally intelligent at an earlier age since emotional intelligence is largely learned and not an inborn ability.

Develop confidence:

Real confidence originates from competence or a belief that one can handle most situations and human interactions competently. For most average humans competence takes time to learn but high achievers and ambitious humans have a distinct advantage because they are internally motivated or are selfconfident by nature.

Be adaptable:

Recognize that new circumstances or failure may mean doing things a little differently so that old mistakes are not repeated over and over again. Adapting to changing goals, changed circumstances, and changing results is a sign that you have courageously overcome your fear of change and embrace it.

Don’t be afraid to say no:

When you have prior commitments which must be fulfilled one of the worst things that you can do is overburden yourself with new commitments which endanger the old. Avoid saying “I’m not sure”, “I don’t think I can do it”, “I’m not certain”, or “Maybe” because it can be the source for overwork, too much stress, depression, and maybe even job burnout.

Don’t let the fear of mistakes and failure handicap you:

View mistakes and failure as a learning experience and a challenge to not fail the same way a second time. If you think that new useful information, knowledge, or skills are necessary then take time out to acquire them before you attempt some goal again with plan B. Distance yourself emotionally from past failures but don’t forget some of the details which made it into a learning experience, hopefully not to be repeated again the same way.

Revel in your own accomplishments and that of others:

Enjoy and take pride in your accomplishments and don’t depress yourself with a comparison with someone better. Similarly, don’t depressingly point to someone who accomplished more when complimenting another for his or her success.

Don’t hold grudges:

Forgiving without asking for an apology is often the smart thing to do because festering hate or anger is a form of lasting mental victimization which you should want no part of.

Be relentlessly enthusiastic with much optimism:

Don’t let bad current events and bad offensive remarks ruin your optomistic attitude, especially if it is something which you have no personal control over.

Don’t forget to recharge your body:

Try to eat healthy organic food, get enough exercise, and get enough sleep because you can’t function at optimal mental efficiency daily with an unhealthy sleep deprived body.

Fear of failure handicaps many individuals who have a history of failing and have suffered much ridicule and condemnation for those failings. If you think of failing as an opportunity to learn what does not work and then courageously move on then failure will not dominate your life unless you suffer from severe incompetency or handicap.

Getting good parents and a good useful education can minimize failure in life but nothing is a guarantee against failure since no one is perfect and we have to learn to deal with our own failures in our own personal way when they happen.

Failing too often in the same way is not easily tolerated by society. You should do your best to change yourself and to not fail again the same way. If you ever begin to feel hopeless just remember Thomas Edison who said “I haven’t failed, I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work!”

Finally the key to minimizing failure in your life is to make reasonable goals for you to achieve in life and not make unrealistic ones which are too risky or have very little chance of being achieved. Remember, if you don’t have much talent, it is better to be an expert in a limited field than just another worker in a crowded celebrity field with thousands of workers catering to the talented few.

Many frustrating experiences frequently cause us to give up on what we set out to do but there are rare individuals who stay frustrated long enough and finally succeed at doing what they set out to do.

When the goal is not that important too much frustration will cause us to quit but if the goal is important then frequently many frustrating experiences are just the price which you may have to pay for successfully achieving the goal.

The undesirable behavior of other humans can also become a frustrating experience. You may want a smooth or good relationship with a human and no matter how much you try you fail at every attempt.

Some examples of frustrating experiences are –

going on many diets and never really succeeding in permanent weight loss,

trying to make 5 baskets in a row in basketball from the penalty line and failing to do so,

trying to learn proper finger positioning on a violin and never quite getting it right,

an absence of punctuality in a friend,

not being able to say very many things in a foreign language which you could in high school 30 years ago,

not being able to clasp a necklace,

not being able to remember all the grammar rules, and

trying to find a free parking spot in a big city.

An example of a temporary frustration is being caught in heavy traffic, especially if there is an accident ahead of you.

Whatever the frustration it is frequently teaching or learning a very hard skill or memorization of something very difficult which is frustrating and you frequently decide to give up on teaching or learning the skill or memorizing the information if it is not that important in your life.

Frustration is a frequent occurrence in most lives.

We try to do something and we aren’t skilled enough and/or knowledgeable enough to do it,

we apply for a job more than once which we think we are qualified for and like and we are refused every time,

we try to buy something such as a sport or luxury car which we think we really like only to find out that it is outside our budget,

we ask a member of the opposite sex on a date and get refused more than once,

we try to ace every test only to find out that we get average grades instead of outstanding ones,

and we try many times to convince our spouse that impulsive spending will lead to financial ruin but there is no noticeable change in behavior.

These are just some examples of the frustrations which we deal with in our daily lives and there are hundreds more.

Sometimes we are very tenacious and put in much time, energy, effort, and money trying to achieve a goal(s) only to find out that the goal(s) continues to frustrate us no matter how hard we seem to be trying.  If the goal(s) is not that important in our lives then it is easy to give up and try to do something else but if it is an important goal(s) then we may try to achieve it with more tenacity.

A realistic appraisal of our abilities and financial resources is necessary to avoid too much frustration and sooner or later we come to the realization that we just don’t have the ability and/or financial resources and probably will not have the ability and/or financial resources to reach the goal(s) even in the long duration.

Confronted with too much frustration in our lives we tend to withdraw from human relationships and attempts at improving our lives. Many just content themselves with living day to day without much regard for the future with a que sera sera attitude or what will be will be attitude.

When confronted with frustration ask yourself if it is an important priority in your life. If it is an important priority then ask yourself if there are new skills and knowledge and relationships which will potentially end the frustration or is it something which you should be avoiding so that you can spend more time on a goal(s) which will not frustrate you.

Frustration is a big part of life and when most of us are confronted with too much frustration we have a tendency to give up or we try to avoid the source of the frustration.

Sometimes trying harder or learning more about the source of the frustration can put us on the road to overcoming the frustration but there are times to stop what we are trying to accomplish if we can’t find someone else to do it for us.

Writing a blog and not getting satisfying feedback can be frustrating so many give up and their passion for writing subsides rather quickly with it.

Finally, if you are frustrated and can’t do something on your own then maybe try to find some human(s) who can help you end the frustration and pay them for the service!

THE TRUTH ABOUT SHAME

Shame: n. sensing displeasure caused by guilt and/or unworthiness and/or disrepute and/or powerlessness to achieve a goal(s)

 

Shame can be very intense embarrassment but it is also something felt by moral humans when they do something immoral or criminal and feel some remorse or have a wish that they had never done the immoral or criminal action.

 

Some humans do immoral and criminal actions and don’t feel shame and some do very embarrassing things and don’t feel shame either. Humans who have an awareness of what is right and wrong and firmly believe are those who experience shame when they do something which they feel is wrong.

 

Finally dependable humans who promise to do things or to do things on time will frequently feel shame if they do not fulfill those goals the way that they promised.

THE TRUTH ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT

Disappointment: n. sensing low to medium intensity badness after failing to achieve your (needs and/or hopes) and/or (desires and/or expectations) and/or goal(s)

 

Fail to get a date, fail to get a job, not enough money for a new car, don’t receive a promise, don’t ace an easy test, don’t do a task on time, and a hundred and one other relatively small failures in life can be very disappointing and even frustrating if you are repeatedly disappointed.

 

You can frequently be a disappointment to yourself but other humans can also disappoint you if they make promises and don’t keep them and ruin your expectations.

 

Some disappointments are so great that they can make you angry at yourself or others. A low to medium intensity unpleasant feeling which frequently accompanies a disappointment may become very intense and should be considered awful, a disaster, or tragedy in your life and not just a medium intensity disappointment.

 

There really isn’t a word for very intense disappointment and there should be.

THE TRUTH ABOUT DISCOURAGEMENT

Discouragement-vs-Disappointment

Discouragement: n. decreasing and/or minimizing a desire to reach a goal(s) and this can frequently be done to others by trying to prevent a behavior by frequently merely communicating opposition to the behavior and/or by forming or placing a barrier and/or by sometimes communicating bodily threats thus hoping to prevent a behavior with fear

We can feel discouraged because we fail to reach a goal(s) on our own.  Someone can discourage us from reaching a goal(s) by communicating opposition to what we want to do, by creating or placing a barrier between us and the goal(s), or by threatening us with severe consequences or injury if we attempt to reach the goal(s).

 

Society is a very discouraging place. If you don’t have the talent, education, financial backup, and right social connections then your attempts at reaching desired goals are frequently filled with failure and disappointment.

 

If you don’t have the talent then try to reach less ambitious goals.

 

If you don’t have the education then educate yourself using the internet and learn new knowledge and skills on your own.

 

If you don’t have the financial backup then save up the money needed, have good credit, and maybe someday you will qualify for a loan to succeed or get a chance to succeed at reaching your goal(s).

 

If you don’t have the right social connections then make the best of the ones which you have the ability to connect with.

Discouragement is a fact of life and if you are getting too discouraged then readjust your priorities or goals in life and follow some different or new ones where discouragement will not play such an important role.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SHAME

Shame: n. sensing displeasure caused by guilt and/or unworthiness and/or disrepute and/or powerlessness to achieve a goal(s)

If you are the rare psychopath who never feels guilty, don’t care if you are held in public disrepute, don’t feel unworthy, and don’t care what humans think when you don’t achieve your goals then you can be truly called a shameless human.

If on the other hand you have a strong moral sense of what is right and wrong, want to be respected and admired, and feel bad about not achieving goals which affect others then you will experience shameful moments when you behave immorally by lying, stealing, not fulfilling promises, or committing adultery. 

If you hurt another human in some way then you should feel shame and if you promise to reach a goal which affects others and don’t thus disappointing them or affecting them in a bad way then you should feel shame.

Some unfortunate humans feel shame about their lack of physical attractiveness, their accent, and physical or mental handicaps which make them feel inferior and unworthy in some way. If you personally feel that you are not normal in some way then you will probably feel some shame about it and maybe not have enough courage to overcome your deviance from normal with other good characteristics which you should be proud to display in public and private.

Feelings of inadequacy, unworthiness, or any trait which you wish you had but don’t are all sources of possible shame in your life. If you realize that no one is perfect and that each of us has more than one imperfection then you may be able to confront the world and other humans without feeling much shame and proceed with a courageous optimistic attitude.

Shame is very intense embarrassment which no one should victimize themselves with because it is a major source of unhappiness for many who care too much what others think about them. If your major source of shame is your poverty then try to do something about it or learn to live with it and try to associate yourself with other poor but happy humans.

Be honest, sincere, and reliable and you should have nothing to feel ashamed of in public and you will probably be respected and maybe even admired by many others.

THE TRUTH ABOUT FEAR

FEAR

Fear: v. to sense very intense bad sensations which are caused by (very little security and/or a threat by a large imminent danger) and/or caused when in much potentially deadly pain

One of the most basic emotions is fear of something whether it is a fear of death, fear of humans, animals, plants, objects, or fear of dangerous events or experiences. Name almost anything in this world and you will probably find someone with a phobia for it or an extreme fear of it.

 

Some humans worry too much because they are so afraid that something bad will happen. To minimize worrying in your life try to worry about the truly important things in your life which can go wrong and don’t spend too much time worrying about the little things which may affect your life in a bad way.

 

If you probe what motivates humans then you will frequently find that the reason that they are behaving a certain way or not behaving a certain way is because of an overt or subconscious fear of something.

 

Humans fear death, fear the pain of physical injury, and fear mental embarrassment when our ego is challenged or assaulted. Not only do we fear bullies and dangerous plants and animals but we fear social embarrassment and making mistakes in public or on dates which sometimes gives us much mental stress or a fear of communicating freely.

 

Humans are afraid of trying new foods because of an inborn fear of being poisoned so there are relatively few humans who are adventurous in their choices of new foods to eat.

 

Humans are afraid of losing their jobs, some are afraid of losing their spouses, and some are afraid of losing their houses or cars if they are not insured.

 

Many humans are afraid of disease or sickness and take out medical insurance to calm those fears. Some try to supplement their diet with miracle supplements or foods which theoretically will prevent cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and other illnesses which they fear.

 

Humans are afraid of crime and natural disasters such as hurricanes and tornadoes. Businesses and government fear crime and surveillance cameras are everywhere.

 

Some religious humans fear eternal punishment after death if they behave immorally and humans frequently fear others who do not have the same beliefs or opinions about the world.

 

Many humans traumatized by other humans too frequently and a series of important failures in life sometimes withdraw from new experiences and choose to live in their dysfunctional lifestyles filled with bad habits and an absence of optimism which sometimes results in depression.

In general many humans are afraid to try something new because of a fear of failure which is frequently blamed on being lazy instead.

 

Finally, many humans set unrealistic goals for themselves and fail because of it and this creates fears of trying something new and feelings of inadequacy.

 

The solution is to make new realistic goals which you can achieve and this will help you to gradually move out of your shell like existence in life which fears change and infrequently ventures forth to live life to the fullest.

 

CONCLUSION:

Leading a successful life frequently means moving forward with optimism and determination and leaving behind the many FEARS of failure which haunt many humans and are impediments to human progress and happiness.

 

What things do I subconsciously fear? If you successfully answer this question yourself or with the help of someone then you may be able to overcome the subconscious fears and liberate yourself to live life more fully.

THE TRUTH ABOUT PERSEVERANCE

Perseverance: n. extreme persistence in trying to achieve a goal(s) and pursuing it much beyond the point where close to 100% of people would stop. Perseverance may be called an addiction to a goal(s) which has a very low probability of being achieved.  The perseverance limit is a lifetime.

Lifelong dedication to something is perseverance and there are plenty of inspiring examples of very talented humans with unsuccessful beginnings who made it big eventually and even became famous. Thomas Edison, Milton Hershey, Steve Jobs, J. K. Rowling, and Simon Cowell are just a few of the truly outstanding examples of great entrepreneurial success which demanded much perseverance.

The common human must be satisfied with lesser achievements through perseverance such as a lifelong monogamous marriage, lifelong friendship, lifelong dedication to a religion or cause such as wildlife conservation, a lifelong dedication to a career such as being a writer, lawyer, or doctor, and a lifelong dedication to eating healthy and exercising in moderation.

A lifelong dedication to family, friends, job, cause, or healthy living is what the common human is capable of and if these goals do not inspire you then you will probably be leading a rather empty lonely life.
