Smart: adj. behaving with above average logical reasoning skills and successfully applying them to solve political and social and economic and scientific problems and/or having emotional intelligence
In a nutshell smart humans are better problem solvers than others. Anything which you do which will help you better solve problems will make you smarter in the long duration.
Learn basic math skills so they become part of your thinking process automatically. Important to know is percentages, frequency, probability, statistics, how to interpret a graph, intensity, and for those wanting a deeper understanding Venn diagrams or knowing the concept of sets and subsets.
From physics learn about energy and what efficiency really means since much decision making revolves around trying to be more efficient in your daily activities to avoid wasting time and energy and money which can be used better elsewhere.
Being smart also means understanding human emotions and behavior under varied circumstances so learn how to be more emotionally intelligent and expose yourself to many kinds of humans so you get better at understanding personality types and how to motivate them. Emotional intelligence is mostly an acquired skill gotten with contact with many humans but you can also learn what emotional intelligence is and apply the principles to your daily life when interacting with humans.
Finally problem solving often requires some research into the problem which you are trying to solve so learn to access reliable competent information and sources on the internet or take the lengthy route and read an authoritative article or book on the subject which you are dealing with or trying to deal with.
Remember that being smart is largely an acquired skill which will take time and the more problems that you smartly solve the better you get at solving problems the next time. Just knowing much information is not what smart is all about but applying that information appropriately to solve problems is being smart in the true sense of the word.
These are common expressions of someone who is probably smart:
You only use it about 30% of the time so you don’t always need it.
I use that more frequently than you so it is much more important in my life.
You probably will use that toy one or two times and then it will lie on the shelf untouched and unused.
Why are you wasting your time, energy, and money on that bad habit?
