THE TRUTH ABOUT DEPRESSION*

article-myths-about-depression

Depression: n. creating many intense unpleasant feelings about oneself and life in general with much selfdoubt and a frustratead inability to find a worthy goal(s) in life which frequently exists with (an inability to concentrate and/or insomnia) and/or (no appetite and/or guilt) and/or (helplessness and/or hopelessness) and/or (feeling little pleasure in life and/or selfhatred) and/or rarely thoughts of (death and/or suicide) and these symptoms exist with sufficiently large frequency and duration

Depression is such a complex, vague, and inaccurate concept that diagnosis of degrees of depression is an exercise in futility. How many of the symptoms of depression do you need to exhibit before you are truly depressed and need counseling, behavioral therapy, or even medication for it? How intense and frequent must the symptoms be to accurately diagnose severe depression which needs immediate attention? No questionnaire is an adequate tool and hourly visits and talk sessions with the shrink is not enough time to make any kind of reliable diagnosis.

It is obvious that if you have all the symptoms of depression mentioned in the definition then you can be called truly depressed but is no appetite, insomnia, inability to concentrate, and hopelessness enough reason to start medicating someone with psychiatric drugs with side effects which often make the circumstances worse in the long duration?

Radical behavior modification or useful therapeutic techniques are the ultimate answer but unfortunately the cure often requires too much money and time and a new environment to be successful in curing depression.

Medicate a patient and place them in the same old environment of dysfunctional friends and bad circumstances and there is little hope that the depression will improve or get better. The only guarantee is that the patient will get addicted to the drugs and have more problems in the long duration due to their excessive addictive use.

Remove the medication and the symptoms of insomnia, inability to concentrate, etc. come roaring back with new and greater intensity and make living life a greater hardship. Are the real causes of the symptoms an overly stressed life, inability to bond with optimistic humans living healthy lifestyles, unhealthy food and drink, and inadequate sleeping habits?

How many primitive tribe humans can be classified as depressed? Almost none of them are depressed but are actively engaged in everyday living trying to survive in the wilderness.

Many modern humans are also trying to survive under mostly unnatural artificial conditions of modern society with little or no contact with nature for many of them. Many are living unsatisfying lives of relative isolation in cramped city apartments or sterile suburban homes with unhealthy social lives and unhealthy food and drink which impairs the brain’s natural functioning ability. Living a city life or suburban life for many is so stressful and unnatural that many succumb to their artificial environment pressures and start to become mentally impaired or depressed as the psychiatrists call them or good repeat customers for their drugs and “profession”.

THE TRUTH ABOUT TANTRUM+

Temper-Tantrums

Tantrum: n. being uncontrolled transiently loud and angry and frequently causing frustration in the parents of offspring since offspring mostly do such behavior

Occasionally an adult may do a tantrum but most temper tantrums are performed by young offspring who by being angry and loud and physically resistant can sometimes get their parents to cater to their usually unacceptable wishes or desires.

Whenever my very young son would do a tantrum in the supermarket or store, I would just take him physically out to the car until the tantrum died down. Then I would return to the store warning him not to do that again.

Traditionally hitting young offspring was accepted punishing behavior for doing a tantrum but what this often resulted in was a switch to crying from the punishment. Today, time out or physically removing the offspring from the scene, is the more appropriate way of handling the situation.

12 RELATIONSHIP BAD HABITS WITH SUGGESTIONS, PART 3 OF 3!!!

images

Seeking approval:

Some humans are too committed to trying to please others and getting praised for it. Doing things and saying things and then expecting or hoping for human approve of what you do will create much frustration because frankly most humans don’t care that much about you daily trials and tribulations.

They are too much involved with their own lives to care that much about your own, especially if they are just casual friends or acquaintances.

Seeking approval from offspring by trying to please them too much will create overly dependent offspring not being so good at living independent lives and close friends will probably start making unreasonable demands on you if you are too intent on pleasing them.

Living through others:

Getting too involved in the lives of you offspring or spouse and valuing their successes or failures as your own will not only seem like being a busy body but you will sacrifice having a worthwhile life of your own pursuing what you really want or like in life.

You effectively become a parasite on other humans  mainly reveling in their successes and stressing through their failures. Take time out for your personal wants and interests too to create more balance in your life.

Frustrated with absence of progress:

If you spend much of your time in frustration with your own absence of progress in life or that of your offspring, spouse, or close friends then you may start complaining much and repelling others.

The key to overcoming frustration is to set smaller achievable goals in life and succeeding at them. When you do start succeeding then your level of frustration should decrease.

Spying:

Spying on someone like your offspring or spouse is a sign of distrust and the feeling may be heightened if you have offspring or spouse who hide things from you and lie to you.

Spying is a sign that you no longer have a trusting relationship with humans and that you are either an untrustworthy human yourself or that you gossip too much about your offspring and spouse to others and your offspring or spouse no longer trust you to be confidential with sensitive information.

Spying on a potentially cheating spouse is common in modern society and it is sometimes necessary to get to the truth of the matter.

Gossiping:

Gossiping is really spreading rumors which may not be true and it can hurt someone’s reputation and even your own if it is not the truth.

If you are not sure about the truth of a rumor then don’t spread it before checking the source and by all means avoid spreading rumors from a known unreliable source, especially humans who you rarely know and can’t determine whether they are lying or not.

Chit chatting about humans is not always gossip if you basically stick to real truthful things which they are doing in life.

Ignoring spouse, offspring, or close friends:

Behaving like important humans in your life don’t matter to you by ignoring them is a form of isolating yourself from humans and having a failed relationship or a very small relationship at best.

You can ignore bad humans and humans who are trying to take advantage of you but ignoring humans who you should care about is a communications or relationship breakdown.

Fighting and/or arguing in public:

If you fight or argue in public then you will not only embarrass whom you are fighting or arguing with but you will also develop a bad reputation as an inconsiderate hothead among other humans.

They will begin to think that you have severe relationship problems with your family and interacting with other humans.

Try not to fight or argue in the first place and if you do then do so privately.

Depending on luck:

If you feel that good things will happen if you are lucky then you will probably stop preparing for opportunity and not be able to grab it when it does come along.

Luck has played some role in many human’s lives but they have usually prepared themselves with personal effort and are ready to qualify or deserve the luck when it does come along.

Nagging:

Nagging is a form of complaining and the squeaky wheel frequently gets the grease or something is done about the complaint.

However, if there is too much nagging or squeaking then there is the possibility that the nagging  or squeaky wheel will be ignored or the source of the nagging abandoned.

Control freak:

Some humans are control freaks or try to control others and events as much as possible. Control freaks are frequently tyrants who want things done their way or no way at all and it is the source of much arguing, disagreement, and bad feelings.

Harmonious living with a control freak is usually not possible unless you are a docile subservient human seeking to avoid responsibility for your own actions.

In a democratic society the tyrannical control freak is frequently dysfunctional and will only be happy if moved to another culture which idolizes controlling types.

Tyrannical husbands who want total control over offspring and spouse are getting exceedingly rare these days in the west unless they are controlling bosses at work and carry on the bad relationship habit at home.

Feeling victimized:

If you feel victimized by humans and circumstances then chances are that you will not be struggling that hard trying to improve things or the situation.

The “poor me” attitude frequently wanting sympathy from others will frequently backfire with humans not willing to offer you any sympathy and usually not wanting to have relationships with you either.

Misery loves company and if you do have any friends left they will be leading similar miserable lives and you will be wallowing in your misery a long time.

Living in the past:

Old humans with little life left frequently live in the past recalling past experiences and retelling their life stories over and over again to whoever will listen.

Some ex jocks or athletes and young movie or TV stars also live in the past and frequently wish they were young again and able to compete or function at the same high level.

If these aging relatively young humans don’t find other worthwhile careers or interests to pursue they frequently  become alcoholics and drug abusers and lead very dysfunctional unhappy lives.

THE TRUTH ABOUT FRUSTRATION***

frustration

Frustration: n. frequently attempting to reach a goal(s) and not doing so within an acceptable standard(s) and/or norm(s)

We have all tried to do something or complete a goal and have not been able to do so quickly if at all. Many frustrating experiences frequently cause us to give up on what we set out to do but there are rare individuals who stay frustrated long enough and finally succeed at doing what they set out to do.

When the goal is not that important too much frustration will cause us to quit but if the goal is important then frequently many frustrating experiences are just the price which you may have to pay for successfully achieving the goal.

The undesirable behavior of other humans can also become a frustrating experience. You may want a smooth or good relationship with a human and no matter how much you try you fail at every attempt.

Some examples of frustrating experiences are –

going on many diets and never really succeeding in permanent weight loss,

trying to make 5 baskets in a row in basketball from the penalty line and failing to do so,

trying to learn proper finger positioning on a violin and never quite getting it right,

an absence of punctuality in a friend,

not being able to say very many things in a foreign language which you could in high school 30 years ago,

not being able to clasp a necklace,

not being able to remember all the grammar rules, and

trying to find a free parking spot in a big city.

An example of a temporary frustration is being caught in heavy traffic, especially if there is an accident ahead of you.

Whatever the frustration it is frequently teaching or learning a very hard skill or memorization of something very difficult which is frustrating and you frequently decide to give up on teaching or learning the skill or memorizing the information if it is not that important in your life.

Frustration is a frequent occurrence in most lives.

We try to do something and we aren’t skilled enough and/or knowledgeable enough to do it,

we apply for a job more than once which we think we are qualified for and like and we are refused every time,

we try to buy something such as a sport or luxury car which we think we really like only to find out that it is outside our budget,

we ask a member of the opposite sex on a date and get refused more than once,

we try to ace every test only to find out that we get average grades instead of outstanding ones,

and we try many times to convince our spouse that impulsive spending will lead to financial ruin but there is no noticeable change in behavior.

These are just some examples of the frustrations which we deal with in our daily lives and there are hundreds more.

Sometimes we are very tenacious and put in much time, energy, effort, and money trying to achieve a goal(s) only to find out that the goal(s) continues to frustrate us no matter how hard we seem to be trying.  If the goal(s) is not that important in our lives then it is easy to give up and try to do something else but if it is an important goal(s) then we may try to achieve it with more tenacity.

A realistic appraisal of our abilities and financial resources is necessary to avoid too much frustration and sooner or later we come to the realization that we just don’t have the ability and/or financial resources and probably will not have the ability and/or financial resources to reach the goal(s) even in the long duration.

Confronted with too much frustration in our lives we tend to withdraw from human relationships and attempts at improving our lives. Many just content themselves with living day to day without much regard for the future with a que sera sera attitude or what will be will be attitude.

When confronted with frustration ask yourself if it is an important priority in your life. If it is an important priority then ask yourself if there are new skills and knowledge and relationships which will potentially end the frustration or is it something which you should be avoiding so that you can spend more time on a goal(s) which will not frustrate you.

Frustration is a big part of life and when most of us are confronted with too much frustration we have a tendency to give up or we try to avoid the source of the frustration.

Sometimes trying harder or learning more about the source of the frustration can put us on the road to overcoming the frustration but there are times to stop what we are trying to accomplish if we can’t find someone else to do it for us.

Writing a blog and not getting satisfying feedback can be frustrating so many give up and their passion for writing subsides rather quickly with it.

Finally, if you are frustrated and can’t do something on your own then maybe try to find some human(s) who can help you end the frustration and pay them for the service!
