THE TRUTH ABOUT CHARITY*

charity-themes-lander

Charity: n. giving personal and/or organizational welfare to the needy

Personal charitable contributions keep a charitable organization alive but you should try to donate to organizations with approximately a 10% management overhead.

If you discover that ninety cents out of a dollar is going for administrative costs and only 10% to the charitable cause then you should avoid such organizations like the plague because they are really fraudulent organizations meant to enrich the owners or managers and little else.

Many charitable causes promoted by celebrities unfortunately also have extremely high overhead costs and you really should not donate any of your hard earned money to them.

THE TRUTH ABOUT ANTHROPOMORPHISM+

Anthropomorphism-Baloo-the-Bear-Paddington-Bear-Peter-Rabbit-Mr.-Toad-Jungle-Book-Wind-In-The-Willows-Kipling-Beatrix-Potter-childrens-book

Anthropomorphism: n. giving human characteristics and/or abilities to a (deity(s) and/or animal(s)) and/or object(s)

Giving human characteristics to a subset other than a human is called anthropomorphism and its application to real life historically has resulted in much mythology and supernatural thinking. Humans are very similar to animals and using human behavioral characteristics to describe their behavior is not really erroneous because our brains function in very similar ways, especially in pack animals.

THE TRUTH ABOUT CONCESSION+

ConcessionLogo

Concession: n. giving a subset(s) because of a demanden(s) but frequently unwillingly

Sometimes we have to concede to the demands of a neighbor telling us to remove a tree branch encroaching on their property. Conceding to a spousal demanden to take out the garbage or mow the lawn is giving in to a reasonable marital demanden. In either case we often concede unwillingly.

Political concession speeches are just an acknowledgement that the other politician got more votes or a greater following and therefore we give up trying to get the same political office or position of authority. Politicians have conceded to the demandens of the majority although sometimes very unwillingly.

THE TRUTH ABOUT GRATUITOUS*

gratuity

Gratuitous: adj. voluntarily giving and/or getting a subset(s) with no compensation requested and sometimes not desired and/or unjustified

Getting a gratuitous free sample, tip, or an unexpected gift may be a pleasant circumstance where you may actually need or want the thing. Sometimes the voluntary offering is gratuitous advice by a solicitor or gratuitous violence which is not desired and frequently unjustified.

Getting something for nothing should be viewed with some suspicion because usually there are ulterior motives associated with the free giving.

THE TRUTH ABOUT UNREQUITE*

unrequited_love-318-7467

Unrequite: v. to give but not get a similar subset(s) as a reaction

Unrequited love is frequently how the word is used and it means giving love and not getting any love in return.

Unrequited could be used in gift giving so that unrequited gift giving is giving a gift and not getting one in return or perhaps not even a thank you which is what usually is considered polite behavior when being given something and not giving anything similar in return.

An unrequited compliment or praise is seldom used because most humans react with a thanks which is a form of giving back or reacting verbally and don’t give a compliment or praise back which is far more appropriate in some cases.

There is also unrequited aggression, ridicule, name calling and basically not getting back what you give but getting back something entirely different or in some cases nothing at all such as silence or no reaction.

THE TRUTH ABOUT REFUSING+

3974028-39023-accept-and-refuse-keys-showing-acceptance-or-denial1

Refuse: v. to voluntarily and sometimes intensely oppose and not take and/or not obey a subset(s) which can be given

You can refuse almost anything which can be given. You can refuse a suggestion, an idea, a belief, an opinion, a gift, an invitation, a reward, an order, a command, a request, a contract, etc.

Refusing a personal gift is rare but you may have a food allergy or a fear of guns so refusing a food or a gun gift may be totally understandable and not hurt someone’s feelings. Certain requests are also hard to refuse but you should courageously say, no sorry I can’t or I don’t want to, if it is a time consuming request or one of a series of imposing requests which you feel are causing you personal hardship or annoyance. Invitations can and should be turned down graciously if you really don’t want to attend or can’t schedule it in your time frame.

Some humans are too eager to please others and saying no or refusing things is just not something which they are good at. The truth is that most humans should have more courage in life and say no more often because saying yes is frequently a great waste of your personal time and energy.

Offspring will sometimes challenge or refuse parental authority or demands and workers will often quit or refuse working for an overly demanding boss. It may take some time before someone refuses to obey oppressive demands but most of us have our limits and there comes a point in life when we have no alternative but to refuse.

Refusing a gift, food, or a material possession is obvious but not so obvious is refusing to accept a belief, opinion, or concept.  Refusing a gift can cause hurt feelings but so can accepting someone’s opinion, concept or belief. There is also refusing a request or question which a human may make and this also can lead to hurt feelings. There is also refusing to accept circumstances, good or mostly bad, and fervently trying to do something about a circumstance to change an unpleasant reality.

If you disagree with someone then their feelings might be hurt so you sometimes have to be diplomatic and say that there are exceptions or examples which conflict with your opinions, beliefs, or concepts. Sometimes you just simply have to say that we agree to disagree.

Refusing a demand or command by an authority figure is a sign of insubordination and unless you have a very good reason not to obey then you may be accused of insubordination which can sometimes have severe consequences.

Being refused by the opposite sex too many times may lead to an inferiority complex or being very timid with opposite sex relationships. Some accept social refusal rather readily and are not upset with it that much and there are some humans who can’t take no for an answer and can pester you until they become a real pain in the ass.

Stalking is symptomatic of humans with extreme determination who can’t take no for an answer or simply refuse to quit following someone around much beyond the point of necessity even with legal attempts to stop the stalking.

Refusing to accept permanent failure in life is sometimes an admirable characteristic and frequently with enough trial and error a human will triumph over adversity or a seemingly insoluble problem.

THE TRUTH ABOUT HELP***

images (2)

Help:  v. to give a lifeform(s) a subset(s) so samer lifeform(s) can frequently achieve a necessary and/or desired goal(s)

You can help a human by offering them money, food, a possession, a service, knowledge, physical, or emotional support in time of need. Anything which you offer a human which will assist in achieving his or her goal(s) is help.

Students sometimes need help with homework and need transportation to and from school.

The best human relationships are where mutual helping exists or where each human in the relationship works as a team helping each other to reach their goal(s).

Sometimes the help offered such as the current welfare system only promotes further dependency and actually has some bad consequences. The destitute and also unemployed need a safety net at any age but the system must be radically reformed to eliminate corruption as outlined in my evergreen truth book CHANGES IN WELFARE LAWS.

We can all help biodiversity to survive by protecting and even expanding wilderness real estate. Wilderness plants and animals will help themselves if we just leave them alone and that is mostly all the help that they really need from us.

WHY DO HUMANS GIVE TO CHARITABLE GOALS?

1353958495_7216_donating-to-charity

Research is being done to find out why people give money to support a charitable goal. It seems that if the pleasure centers of the brain are activated then there is a greater probability of giving. The still unanswered question is why do some humans feel pleasure and others don’t when giving?

It is just a guess on my part but I feel that giving is connected to a basic belief in the charitable goal that you are giving to and having enough spare money to give in the first place.

Previous conditioning by role models who gave to charities probably affects your lifelong giving tendencies but most important is a personal strong belief in the charitable goal. I used to give to conservation organizations which I believed in when I was single and stopped doing so when I got married and had offspring and had less money to give for charitable goals. I no longer felt good about giving because my family priorities overrode charitable giving.

CONCLUSION:

You probably give to charities because it makes you feel good, because you believe in the charitable goal, and if you have some excess money to spend on the charitable goal. If you are very religious you may actually give about 10% of your income to the religious organization because you have been indoctrinated to believe that it is the right thing to do. Acting on a belief is a pleasurable experience.
