HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR PERSONALITY!!!

Ideally you have great role model moral parents, have been raised with one or more siblings, have role model moral relatives, and have had good role model friends in your formative years. If this is the case then you probably also have a good personality which needs little improvement.

On the other hand if you haven’t had good moral role model parents, are an only child, have had bad role model relatives, and have had bad role model friends in your formative years then your personality is probably pretty bad and needs a radical change. Fortunately relatively few of us fall into these two extremes of good moral role models and bad somewhat immoral role models.

If you want to radically improve your very bad personality then it is mostly a lost cause if you are already an adult so my recommendations for improving a personality apply to humans who are flawed but not extremely flawed personality types.

Why is being moral or ethically sound so important? It is because trust is the bond which attracts and keeps relationships going and without trust relationships fall apart sooner or later. To establish trust you must have integrity which basically means being honest and moral. Being moral or ethical is not lying, not stealing, not committing adultery if married, and not murdering. My morality also includes not destroying biodiversity and not being inefficient but these two important subjects are covered in my book SECULAR MORAL CODE on Amazon. So one of the most important factors in a good personality is being TRUSTWORTHY which is the foundation of almost all good relationships and personality types.

There are other factors which make for a trustworthy relationship. You must also be as dependable as possible and try to fulfill all your promises. Competence in what you do also builds trust because you can’t depend on an incompetent human who makes too many mistakes, forgets too often, or is pretentious about his or her actual abilities. Bad gossiping, spreading false rumors about someone, or lying about a human also destroys trust and back stabbing is even worse.

So if you are on the road to improving your personality then trying to become more trustworthy is priority number one on your list of things to do. If you are trustworthy then you will have a good reputation and may even be admired though some of your opinions and beliefs may be different from those with which you are communicating with or involved in relationships with.

Another very important personality trait is an honest or sincere interest in other humans, especially in those that you choose to interact with and form relationships with. A genuine interest in another human is conveyed by listening carefully to what is said, asking appropriate questions and following up on what is being said, interrupting only when the conversation gets boring or seems to be going nowhere, showing empathy with present and past circumstances, offering helpful advice where appropriate, motivating one to continue doing something good, praising one for doing something worthwhile, sharing similar experiences or interests verbally and sometimes physically, being sincere in your criticisms if any so they don’t come across harsh or rude,  interjecting humor where appropriate, and maintaining an optimistic and enthusiastic mood or atmosphere or smiling, nodding, and gesturing appropriately.

Yes, it is hard showing genuine interest in a human that is not very interesting to begin with but there is social etiquette to deal with these humans in a polite and respectful way. If you want details then read my book GOOD MODERN BEHAVIORS on Amazon.

You can be an introvert and be respected and admired by relatively few individuals or you can be an extrovert and be respected and admired by relatively many individuals. Neither being an introverted type of personality or an extroverted type of personality is good or bad. Both are good if you are trustworthy or have integrity and are basically a moral human. This is not an article designed to help you to become more extroverted or introverted since introverts generally try to avoid excessive human drama and limit human interactions and extroverts often like human drama and interactions with many humans.

Ultimately an extroverted human personality can interact with a wide variety of human personality types successfully and it is something which is called emotional intelligence. It is a learned skill and is usually acquired with a lot of experience with all kinds of humans. Many introverts may lack this emotional intelligence with a wide range of human personality types but they may have great emotional intelligence with relatively few carefully chosen individuals. I suppose you could call introvert emotional intelligence quality emotional intelligence and extroverted emotional intelligence quantity emotional intelligence. This quality versus quantity statement is just a spontaneous thought which I had and need not be taken that seriously if you are confused by it.

Happiness is contagious and if you are a happy individual then this will attract other humans. In most cases the happiest humans are those who enjoy setting and pursuing short and long duration goals and try to achieve them. They are usually the doers and not just the dreamers. The happiest are those who set realistic short and long duration goals and develop confidence and a can do attitude with successful achievement along the way.

There are the super ambitious happy entrepreneurs but you can also be considered ambitious and happy if you want to maintain or improve your health by eating organic, sleeping enough, exercising on a regular basis, self educating yourself by reading useful information which improves your knowledge and skills, and trying to prepare for a better paying or more fulfilling job and more interesting life.

Being happy is a state of mind which you are responsible for to a large extent. If you want to improve your personality then research core values or personality traits and self educate yourself about them. Find out yourself details about things such as compassion, caring, selfishness, friendship, kindness, optimism, responsibility, creativity, curiosity, sharing, etc. or read details about these concepts in my book SECULAR MORAL CODE. Yes, you can also search my encyclopedic blog at uldissprogis.com using those keywords and you shouldn’t come away disappointed.

Finally, once you determine what part of your personality you want to improve you can research it further and start taking steps trying to improve it. Best wishes. Uldis

THINGS YOU CAN CONTROL WITH SOME EFFORT!!!

Most of the following really are a reflection of the good and bad habits which you have. Even though you should theoretically be able to control these things it often takes great courage, determination, and effort to control and effectively change them.

Who you associate with:

What you eat:

How seriously you take life:

How personally you take things:

Your effort:

Your happiness:

How empathetic and kind you are:

Your priorities:

What you talk about:

What you think about:

What you believe:

How open minded you are:

Whom you associate with:

At work you may not have much of a choice whom you associate with. If you seriously can’t tolerate your boss or coworkers then it is time to look for a job elsewhere. Unpleasant relatives you may also have to deal with but you can minimize your contact with them by talking very little and meeting them only when absolutely necessary. Other relationships you can minimize or terminate at will. Hopefully you will opt for relationships which have integrity, trustworthiness, sincerity, dependability, competence, and friendliness.

What you eat and drink:

Most are addicted to fast food and processed food. It takes considerable effort to change bad eating habits to habits which include enough healthy organic food which sometimes can seem rather bland without the sometimes necessary added spices, sauces, or dressings. If you are addicted to alcohol or sweet soda drinks then changing to low alcohol beer or unsweetened fruit juices, milk, and water will require considerable courage, determination, and effort.

How seriously you take life:

Many are not smart hard workers, are not neat and orderly, don’t schedule their budget and life, and don’t try to do their best at almost everything. There are plenty who like to goof off, make messes which are seldom cleaned up, buy relatively useless stuff, live from paycheck to paycheck, don’t schedule their lives conscientiously, and just do enough to get by. Getting serious about life can sometimes be very hard to do but it is well worth the effort if you become more serious and thoughtful.

How personally you take things:

Some get offended by the slightest criticism, insult, put down, name calling, ridicule, and humiliation while others either ignore it, laugh it off, or get minimally affected by it. If you hold grudges, are vengeful, jealous, and get offended often then you are probably taking things too personally. You can rarely change other humans whom you have no control over so just try to accept humans as they are, especially if they have slightly offending personalities.

Your effort:

Doing things takes much more effort than just talking about them. It is fundamentally up to you to get your rear into gear and put in the effort needed to achieve your short and long range goals. Laziness is sometimes hard to overcome if it has become a deep rooted bad habit. It helps if you are energetic by nature and constantly like to do things which is historically a work ethic. Goal achievement takes effort and if you don’t put in any effort at trying to control or change things then don’t be surprised if no change happens.

Your happiness:

Happiness increases if your relationships are good, you enjoy your job, and you are achieving short and long duration goals successfully. Yes, you can have a happy attitude in times of stress, failure, and boredom but it is not that easy to do unless you are an indomitable optimist.

How empathetic and kind you are:

If you are terminally wrapped up in yourself or very selfish then caring about others may not be your strong point. If and when you start caring about other humans is when your empathy and kindness will increase.

Your priorities:

We all have our priorities but few consciously realize or analyze and make a list of the most important things or priorities which they spend the most time, effort, and money at in their lives. Until you become conscious of what is most important in your present and future life, you will probably not be in full control of your priorities and you will be unable to change the priorities in any significant way.

What you talk about:

Most of us react impulsively when we talk and there are subjects which we would rather not talk about because they may cause embarrassment or arguments. Controlling what you talk about is not hard but it takes considerable effort to talk about things which interest other humans rather than just about things which interest you.

What you think about:

Most humans react impulsively based on prior experiences and knowledge and think very little. Most briefly think about when to eat and drink, who to communicate with, and what to do on the weekends. If you schedule your life then you will briefly think about the schedule. Ultimately if you want to think differently then you will have to research and learn about new useful things. This will then become part of your impulsive repertoire.

Really thinking is a tedious process of asking the right questions and getting answers. If you truly want to learn how to think then read my book on Amazon, How to  Think by Uldis Sprogis.

What you believe:

Except for morality what you believe will change with time as you are exposed to other humans, experiences, activities, and ideas. You can try to control what you believe but unless you expose yourself to other beliefs and perhaps think of possible explanations for them, you will defend your old beliefs as long as possible or until a crisis or emergency changes those beliefs. What you believe expands in volume as you learn or research new useful information.

How open minded you are:

Open mindedness is really a measure of how tolerant you are of other cultural norms, behavior norms, and new things in general. If you have dogmatic beliefs or ideologies and strong opinions about most things then chances are that you will not be very open minded and tolerant of other human’s ideas and activities.

FIND OUT WHAT YOUR LIFE PURPOSE IS IN THIS ARTICLE!!!

First of all there is a big difference in knowing the purpose of your life in it’s entirety and knowing what the purpose of your life is in the here and now. The answer to the first purpose can be a philosophical one but the answer to the second is a practical here and now answer.

You may feel that the purpose or goal of your whole life is to help others, to lead a moral life, to make a lot of money, to change the world for the better, to obey a religious text, to survive, etc.

In the here and now your purpose or goal is to work at a job, eat and drink, have fun, lead a married life, live off of welfare, survive financially, work or study to become a hair dresser, electrician, lawyer, doctor, politician, etc.

If your purpose in life helps the needs or wants of other humans and makes them feel happy and secure then chances are that you also will benefit financially, socially, and maybe even spiritually. If your purpose in life is to make yourself happy at the expense of others then that is a possible purpose but not a very laudable selfish one.

What you are doing now is a purpose or goal and what you would like to do or love to do is sometimes a future goal or purpose. Since our life is in constant change for the most part your specific purposes or goals in life change as you age. General purposes such as living a moral life, socially interacting well, trying to conserve wilderness and wildlife, trying to make the world more peaceful, etc. are purposes which you may have an entire lifetime and dedicate some of your time, effort, and money trying to make the general purposes come true in the long duration.

Do you bemoan the fact that your life seems to have no purpose and the very thought depresses you? Think in terms of short range purposes or goals and long range purposes or goals and you will find that your life has plenty of purpose and that you can come up with more purposes or goals if you so desire! You’re not physically dead yet although you may feel mentally dead. For the mentally dead start reading some useful information and make that one of the here and now purposes in your life for a better life in the long duration!

You may be unhappy with your present job or career, unhappy with yourself, unhappy with your friends, unhappy with your marriage, unhappy with your lonely life, etc. If that is the case then train for or land a better job or career, improve yourself with useful selfeducation, find better friends to associate with, get a divorce, volunteer to do community service, etc.

If your life doesn’t seem to have good purposes or goals then change your purposes or goals. Yes, change is difficult and takes courage, dedication, and persistence so don’t be too surprised if you chose the easy way out and choose to continue your “purposeless” life or more accurately your old bad habits! Yes, a major key to happiness is changing to new and better habits and reducing or eliminating your old bad habits. It’s that simple yet hard to do. Best wishes. Uldis

JAPANESE “IKIGAI”: A CONCEPT WHICH CREATES HAPPINESS WHEN ONE FINDS A GOAL TO PURSUE WHICH BRINGS FULFILLMENT!!!

Huffpost.com is a heavily Democrat biased website which dogmatically promoted Hillary Clinton for president and was shocked when Trump won just like the shocked legacy or establishment media. When Huffpost.com was founded it had some very interesting non political articles posted by independent bloggers and you could comment on the article.

Now it has transformed itself into a political left wing mouthpiece which only once in a blue moon  publishes a non political article which is worth reading. This one article on Japanese “ikigai” is an exception to the general rule that myopic political articles and celebrities dominate everything that Huff publishes.

Japanese ikigai fundamentally states that you will be happy if you are doing something that you love, something which you are good at, something that you can be paid for, and fundamentally doing something which the world needs. The article gives an example of a Japanese shoe repairer who has his own shop and derives happiness or satisfaction from being paid for a well done job or service which most humans are thankful for and give positive feedback.

The average Japanese lives about five years longer than the average American and even though a better diet and more communal lifestyle may be the reason, ikigai may also factor in to some extent.

It is possible to have a lousy job and still find ikigai in a hobby, family, or anything which brings joy and happiness into one’s life. Click on the ikigai link and enjoy reading this article. ikigai.

11 IMPORTANT MYTHS IN POPULAR PSYCHOLOGY!!!

One myth is that we use only about 10% of our brain. In fact almost all the brain is active all the time so we use about 100% of the brain, although certain regions of the brain are more active than others for given activities. MRI’s are one way to detect brain activity for different mental activities or different activated regions in the brain.

It is a myth that the left brain is more logical, analytical, intellectual, and the right brain is more intuitive, creative, and artistic. Both sides of the brain participate in analyzing, synthesizing, and intuitively being creative.

While it is true that some humans who do better in mathematics and science with much formal training, they tend to be more logical and analytical and their creativity and intuition is more firmly limited by objective rules and principles that guide their thinking. Both sides of the brain are used to function.

Artists can also analyze and synthesize what they are doing. Their subjective, impulsive creativity and often less formal training has less rigorous limitations. This results in many more mutant forms of creativity which are frankly very random in nature and often show a minimum of focused skill. You could generally say that artists are much freer or wilder in their thinking and doing than mathematicians and scientists but both sides of the brain participate.

It is a myth that there is ESP or extra sensory perception or psychic ability. Despite the fact that there is no scientific evidence to support psychic ability, humans love to think and believe that someone may be able to foresee the future and tell them what is in store for them.

The popularity of horoscopes is one indication of the gullibility of humans who fall for these predictive prognostications. Yes, there is coincidence that what the horoscope talks about or predicts is what generally or actually happens in your life on certain days. However, statistically horoscopes are less than 50% accurate which means that they are worse at predicting the future than a coin toss prediction.

Human hope springs eternal and one or a few lucky coincidences or events is unfortunately what keeps fortunetellers and gambling operations in business. One accurate prediction or a fake staged performance of many accurate predictions in front of a large audience can make many gullible believers in psychic ability.

It is a myth that subliminal messages can affect our behavior. Subliminal means something below the threshold of sensing and/or consciousness so if the message is visual and/or verbal we would not be aware of it realistically.

Yes, you could randomly flash a picture or part of a picture on the screen or flash an audio of a word and/or sound. This would register on our brain and we would be probably annoyed at the random disturbance, not be positively affected by it, and it would no longer be a subliminal message which we are not aware of.

It is a myth that adolescence is a time for emotional outbursts, stress, tension, rebellion, dependency conflicts, peer-group conformity, sexy dress, motorcycles, black leather jackets, and similar deviant behavior. Most adolescents from normal moral families do not have turbulent adolescences and those that do usually come from dysfunctional families.

Sure, even moral families may witness a few rebellious incidents such as clandestine cigarette, drug, or alcohol use, trying to fit in with undesirable popular peers, or inappropriate clothing and accessories. However, the vast majority do not have many such undesirable behavior problems, especially in nonwestern cultures where parenting is more formalized, better disciplined, and less permissive.

It is a myth that polygraphs or lie detectors and truth serums can accurately detect dishonesty or lies. Polygraphs measure parameters such as degree of sweating and heart beat but they are only about 60% accurate in detecting lies which means that about 40% get away with the lie.

Truth serum like alcohol reduces your inhibitions and you are slightly more inclined to tell the truth but the accuracy of truth serum is no better than the polygraph. The government still occasionally uses the polygraph on some of it’s high security workers but it is forbidden evidence in a court of law because it can’t prove anything beyond a reasonable doubt or close to 100% accuracy.

It is a myth that happiness is mostly dependent on our external circumstances. While it is true that there are certain things like possessions, great house, great job, plenty of pleasurable events, and much money which can bring great happiness in the short duration, long duration happiness is mostly dependent on inner drives, ambition, personality traits, attitudes, disposition, motivations, thoughts, and beliefs and not so much on external circumstances.

An external circumstance like divorce and death in the family can lead to some long duration unhappiness but in general we adjust to our own homeostasis or how happy we are over the long haul.

Yes, having some close and great friends are an external circumstance which has the potential to create great happiness but it is often because we ourselves have INNER integrity, are dependable, trustworthy, encouraging, and competent in our lives and attract other humans with similar characteristics.

Other humans, an external circumstance, make volunteering possible but it is ultimately the INNER satisfaction of helping others or a cause which makes the volunteer happy in the long duration.

A lonely household cat can be happy with food, water, sleep, shelter, petting, and a little exercise. Some minimally existing humans also don’t need very much to be happy if they have adequate food, water, sleep, shelter, clothes, alcohol, and occasional contact with other humans.

The truth is that both internal and external factors affect our happiness but the greatest source of long duration happiness is internal factors. Being optimistic, ambitious, driven, grateful, friendly, empathetic, courageous, confident, and being a perpetual thinker and doer trying to achieve short and long duration goals are internal factors which yield the greatest personal happiness under all external circumstances over a lifetime.

It is a myth that humans who are opposite in looks, personality, and beliefs are attracted to each other. It is a popular Hollywood myth which makes for interesting cinema but the reality is that similar looks, personalities, and beliefs result in more lasting relationships with spouses and friends alike. Our ideal mate or friend may be someone whom we ourselves would not attract because we ourselves are not as ideal as we think we are and simply can’t attract and land our ideal mate or friend.

Many of us like to fantasize how great it would be to marry a beautiful or handsome human with a great personality even though we are plain looking with borderline personalities. This is why opposites attract films get much support from the common filmgoer or watcher.

Yes, being too similar in looks, personality, and beliefs may lead to boredom but most humans are different enough to have slightly different likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, which makes an ongoing relationship interesting if both have an ambition to improve themselves in some way or have different goals in life as time progresses.

It is a myth that men and women communicate in completely different ways. Some women are more talkative than men because some are more social than men and have more friends. They also have a tendency to go into minute details about who said what to whom and what were the reactions. Men historically have been doers and not talkers on the job so traditionally women stayed at home and communicated with offspring and friends over the phone. Today both men and women work and lead similar lifestyles so the difference in talkativeness is rather minimal overall but may vary widely for individual couples.

It seems that women and men in positions of power interrupt conversations more often so it is not a characteristic of men only.

Women seem to be more perceptive of nonverbal cues than men or can detect emotional nuances better than men. This is not surprising because women have historically been trained to express their emotions rather than suppress them as is more common with men. Yes, it is acceptable if a woman cries but not a man in most cultures and this is just a reflection of cultural bias and conditioning. A man is supposed to control his emotions and a woman can be more emotional. Women in general and men with emotional intelligence can better pick up emotional cues.

Individuals differ in the degree of the quality and quantity of their personal communication but there are no glaring differences between how men or women communicate in general.

It is a myth that it is better to express anger than to hold it in. While some humans may initially feel better after yelling loudly, punching a bag, or destroying some property the long duration result is that it encourages or enforces future angry or aggressive episodes and prolongs the hatred of the subject or object of the anger.

Disciplining yourself to internally suppress angry feelings when they arise is the best policy. Taking concrete steps to reduce that anger such as counting to ten or delaying a problem for future resolution when the anger has subsided is the right thing to do.

It is a myth that low selfesteem is the major cause of psychological problems. Research has NOT shown a cause effect relationships between low selfesteem and problems such as violence, alcoholism, drug abuse, eating disorders, school dropouts, teenage pregnancy, suicide, and bad academic achievement.

Accepting this myth has resulted in rewarding trophies to losers in sports and falsely telling students that they are smart, great, and wonderful for trying and failing at important tasks. Praising humans when they don’t deserve it or have not earned the praise leads to humans who are deluded into thinking that they are greater than they really are and their sense of selfworth is corrupted or is highly inaccurate.

True confindence or valid selfesteem grows out of successfully achieving more goals than failing at goal achievement. Delusional selfesteem arises when we fail much more often than succeed at doing things and still have a great deal of delusional confidence in ourselves.

THE TRUTH ABOUT BLISS

logo

Bliss: n. sensing serene joy for duration

Serene: adj. existing with minimum activity(s)

Joy: n. sensing much pleasure but less intense pleasure than ecstasy and more intense pleasure than happiness

Two parents alternately holding a baby or a human experiencing the newly found joy of meditation can be considered to be blissful moments. Bliss is not ecstasy or extreme happiness nor is it merely happiness but medium intensity happiness which is joy under relatively serene circumstances which last for duration.

21 WAYS TO BE HAPPIER FOR COMMON HUMANS NOT DRIVEN AMBITIOUS INDIVIDUALS!!!

40dc5e7acc80848eb4a311fac0c69dec

Ambitious driven individuals derive much happiness from loftier goal setting, taking calculated risks, and work feverishly trying to overcome the challenges on the road to hoped for success.

Common humans are more laid back, live rather mundane lives, derive happiness by being grateful for what they have, and are relatively happy with a relatively low level of achievement.

It is much easier for common humans to be happy because they have lower expectations out of life than ambitious driven individuals and the following ways generally make them happier:

They don’t hold grudges:

They don’t fester with vengeful and resentful feelings towards others who may have offended them with bad remarks or behavior. If it is not immoral behavior like lying they tend to try and forgive and forget because they view human error as imperfect behavior which can be forgiven if it does not become an annoying repeated frequent characteristic. Their general philosophy is live and let live and they don’t sink into depression, anxiety, or stress every time they get offended by someone.

They treat almost everyone with sincere kindness:

They try to treat almost everyone with love, dignity, and respect in a friendly way and increase the probability that they too will be treated the same way in return. Doing so makes them more likeable humans and having this positive attitude is a happier state than treating humans in an impersonal way.

They view problems as doable challenges and not unpleasant tasks:

A problem is viewed as a challenge with a highly probable satisfactory solution and not a drawback or a difficult struggle. They prefer solving problems with an optimistic rather than pessimistic approach.

They are grateful for what they already have:

There is a popular saying that “The happiest people don’t have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.” Contentment is greater if you count your blessings rather than yearn for what you don’t have.

They have realistic dreams:

Many yearn or dream of celebrity status in sports, media, and acting. Happy humans have more realistic goals or dreams which they have a higher probability of achieving and don’t waste their time dreaming of the highly improbable.

They don’t get bogged down in trivial rather unimportant problems or behavior:

They are aware of and have established what the most important priorities are in their life and don’t obsess with the trivial rather unimportant things in their lives. They don’t sweat the small stuff.

They try to focus on and say nice things about humans:

Unless a human is behaving immorally they tend not to gossip and prefer to say nice things about humans instead of the bad.

They try not to make excuses for their failings in life:

If they make a mistake or fail at fulfilling a promise or task then they take full responsibility for their actions and don’t try to blame others or circumstances for their failure. They learn from their mistakes and try not to repeat them again and don’t try to justify them with an excuse which solves nothing.

They enjoy the present:

Instead of worrying about the past or future they happily live in the present and derive as much happiness from the present moment as they can.

They get enough sleep most nights:

Getting enough sleep at night means waking up fresh, being recharged, and ready to go and not being handicapped by feeling tired which hurts productivity and performance at most tasks during the day.

They don’t envy and don’t obsess with comparisons with humans with more success or greater social rank:

Comparison with others is inevitable on the conscious and subconscious level but happy humans aren’t driven by a desire to keep up with the Joneses or a desire to be better than others. Instead they celebrate or praise the achievements of others without overt envy. They are generally trying to improve themselves but don’t consider themselves failures if they don’t quite measure up to others.

They choose friends wisely:

They associate more with optimistic good moral humans with integrity and minimally expose themselves to bad humans with many flaws who have more than their share of misery in their lives.

They are more interested in pleasing themselves rather than others:

They realize that they can’t please everyone and not even most humans so they realistically try to please themselves and do what they think is morally right and maintain their integrity no matter what others may say about them.

They have adequate social skills:

Happy humans are usually not loners but derive satisfaction from having a happy family, happy friends, or a happy significant other, and radiate contagious happiness with potential new acquaintances. They are happy being by themselves but also derive happiness by being with others.

They aren’t afraid to spend some alone time:

They enjoy alone time when they daydream, think, meditate, introspect, or just relax with a favorite hobby or pastime.

They eat healthy and get enough exercise and sleep:

A healthy mind and body is essential to happiness and maintaining optimum health means eating healthy, exercising, and getting enough sleep.

They try to live simply:

Material clutter and big cars and houses can be more stressful and a greater responsibility than living a simpler life with fewer material possessions and smaller car and house. Living simply means less financial responsibility and it means that you need less money for basic needs to be met. Driven ambitious humans seldom live simply but smart common humans should to optimize happiness.

They don’t try to find happiness in bad addictive behaviors:

Some try to find happiness in bad addictive behaviors such as gambling, drugs, alcohol, gluttony, excessive shopping, pornography, and promiscuity. Truly happy humans avoid or have minimum exposure to these harmful long duration addictions.

They realize and accept that some things can’t be changed:

Instead of constantly complaining how unfair life is they realize that they can’t change most of the bad things in this life and are content with trying to improve themselves or doing the best that they can with what they have at their disposal.

They maintain their integrity:

They are basically sincerely honest and moral and do not like lying and deceiving like sociopaths do. They are respected by most humans that they interact with and if they are trustworthy, dependable, competent, friendly, and empathetic then they are also admired by many humans. They derive a feeling of great selfworth from their integrity.

They have relatively few of these 32 bad habits:

13 THINGS EMOTIONALLY INTELLIGENT HUMANS TRY NOT TO DO!!!

download (1)

They don’t always assume that what they think and feel is a true reflection of what is really going on in someone’s mind or the real reason behind someone’s behavior. They realize that sometimes their assumptions about others may be flawed or inaccurate and further probing or experience may be necessary to discover the truth about a human.

They don’t think external influences directly control their emotions. They understand that their emotional state is their responsibility and under their control and don’t think the responsibility for the emotional state is an external influence or its control is exerted by external influences.

They don’t think that they can control and guarantee future happiness. They understand that what they think will make them happy in the future is a projection of what has made them happy in the past. If it is some future new projection or goal to be achieved then they realize that there is no guarantee that achieving it will really make them happy and that they won’t really know how happy until it actually happens.

They don’t think that being fearful is necessarily being on the wrong path because life is sometimes risky and repeated failure or new failure is always a possibility when trying something new. They risk doing new things despite a little fear which they feel might be a good thing and something they would like and perhaps even love.

They don’t think that sustained happiness is possible. They know that a sustained state of happiness is an illusion and they are not trying to reach that impossible delusional state but live day to day and enjoy whatever happiness comes with it.

They don’t easily change their views. They recognize that others sometimes try to change their thoughts, beliefs, and opinions but even though they have an open mind they are not gullible, are introspective, and don’t automatically reject the validity of their own viewpoints.

They don’t freely express all their emotions in public. Few but not all their intense emotions are expressed in public. Any intense anger or hatred are reserved to be more honestly, freely, and intimately expressed in a circle of trustworthy family and close friends.

They don’t think that any one emotion is permanent. They understand and are aware that shitty or very bad feelings are transient and eventually subside so they develop composure, control, or stamina which prevents the intense feelings from frequently being expressed in public.

They don’t confuse bad emotions or a bad day of emotional turmoil with a bad life in general and don’t become chronic complainers if they have more than their share of bad days or bad circumstances.

They don’t express empathy and sympathy all the time. They try to express empathy or sympathy where appropriate for humans suffering from bad circumstances or emotional turmoil but realize that some humans overly complain just to get attention so an expression of empathy or sympathy is not always forthcoming if not deserved.

They don’t overwhelm humans with fake exaggerated praise and compliments but express approval with sincere honest remarks and appropriate enthusiasm.

They don’t gullibly believe charismatic con artists manipulating emotions with information, goods, and services which sound too good to be true, especially get rich schemes and miracle cures.

They don’t believe emotional intelligence is inborn but believe it is something acquired with human experience. In general they assume a more mature or older human with much human interaction has more emotional intelligence than a young inexperienced adult with little social exposure.

THE TRUTH ABOUT CELEBRATE+

download

Celebrate: v. to use a subset(s) for happiness and/or to get happiness using a special subset(s) and/or to get happiness by not doing a subset(s) for duration

Many of us like to celebrate because it is frequently a special occasion during which we indulge in interactions with close family and/or friends and generally experience much happiness.

An example of a celebration is also not doing very much but taking a vacation or sabbatical during which time we do very little work and indulge in some pleasant pastimes. Celebrations vary from culture to culture and significant celebrations are a little different in all of them but the urge to celebrate is universal for human nature.

THE TRUTH ABOUT CONTENTMENT+

finding-contentment

Contentment: n. experiencing a relatively long duration of satisfaction and happiness

You can be satisfied and happy about one thing that you did and that is not contentment in the true sense of the word. You must have many satisfying and happy moments for a relatively long duration to experience true contentment.

“The family found contentment living on the farm” is an accurate use of the word contentment because living implies a relatively long duration.

Happiness: n. sensing pleasure but less intense pleasure than joy and ecstasy

Almost everyone wants to be happy and few realize that joy is being very happy, ecstasy is being very very happy and it is the same basic pleasurable emotion which just varies in different intensities or strengths and the behavior usually becomes more energetic the more intense the pleasure gets.

40 GOOD HABITS WHICH CAN LEAD TO MORE HAPPINESS!!!

habits-for-happiness

The primary source of happiness is good habits which frequently lead to a good job and good relationships with other humans.

Actually having good habits means that you are avoiding or gradually eliminating the bad habits in your life too. Being aware of bad habits and doing something about them is important in being and remaining happy.

I have written about 32 bad habits which you should minimize or avoid and have links to them at the end of this article.

40 GOOD HABITS:

Eat healthy organic food as much as possible and drink pure water and healthy fruit and veggie juices.

Moderately exercise or move around physically about three times a week if not more.

Get enough sleep so that you wake up fresh and ready to start a new day.

Be financially responsible or budget and live within your means.

Work smart and hard.

Try to have good relationships with important humans in your life.

Be honest and sincere or don’t be a liar or deceptive human and you will attract more honest and sincere humans in your life.

Avoid or minimize contact with bad, depressed, unhappy, addicted humans as much as possible who will just add misery and problems to your life.

Forgive more unless they are immoral humans lying, deceiving, and cheating  you.

Let go of the things which you can’t control and you will have less to worry about.

Compare yourself less with others and you won’t feel as anxious and depressed.

Honestly compliment or praise others who have earned the compliment or praise.

Share your knowledge and expertise with others when needed within reason and offer the help free of charge as needed.

Take time out for friendships, especially the ones who are important in your life.

Trust your gut feelings and trust other humans at first until they prove themselves immoral and unworthy of that trust.

Keep your conversations brief and to the point or listen more and talk less.

Be kind or good towards humans as much as possible unless they don’t deserve to be treated well or are immoral liars or cheaters.

Keep your excuses to a minimum and change your behavior so that you don’t need excuses.

You don’t need to seek approval from most humans unless they are very close to you and will be affected by your decisions in a good or bad way.

Improve yourself with new useful knowledge and skills.

Meditate by thinking about nothing of importance or listening to soothing music or nature sounds or think about the things which you have accomplished or hope to accomplish and when.

View the world as an amazingly interesting place and it will be easier to maintain an optimistic attitude.

Do things which you like or love to do more often.

Try to live in the present moment more and try to enjoy every moment as much as possible.

Spend time with nature which is always inspiring, relaxing, and enjoyable.

Take out time to be with yourself and think or do things which interest only you.

Keep an inspiration file of affirmations, quotes, or fun things to do.

Express gratitude or be thankful for the things which you have even though they may not be the best of everything.

Embrace uncertainty and don’t let it worry or depress you.

Write about your feelings, beliefs, opinions, and experiences or keep a diary but try to focus on your achieved goals and things which you hope to achieve in the future.

See problems as challenges and not unpleasant tasks.

Have useful pastimes and do them in moderation.

Have an orderly and clean environment.

Schedule your time with priority given to the important things in your life.

Take time out for enjoying yourself with or without company.

Spend more time nurturing the close relationships in your life.

Spend little time gaming or watching TV.

Minimize the medicine or drugs which you are taking.

Spend little time on pornography and gambling if they are unavoidable.

Try to improve yourself or make and spend time on realistic goals which you can achieve soon or at some point in the future so you don’t lead an unfulfilled life of unachieved goals.

THE TRUTH ABOUT CONTENTMENT***

contentment

Contentment: n. experiencing a relatively long duration of satisfaction and/or happiness

When someone says that they are leading a content life then that means that they are leading a generally satisfying and/or happy life.

Yes, no one can be content all the time so there are periods of dissatisfaction and unhappiness but they are generally rather infrequent and not considered as drawbacks to a mostly content life.

Contentment last a relatively long time and it is only temporarily interrupted with some unsatisfying and unhappy moments. If you are content with your marriage then that means that you are generally satisfied and/or happy with it.

If you are satisfied and/or happy for an hour or two then you have had a period of contentment no matter how unsatisfying and unhappy your life may be the rest of the time.

You can be content with a relatively inactive life or be content with a rather dynamic and interesting life. Contentment usually means that your basic needs are fulfilled and what you do beyond these basic needs is your responsibility or your life to lead.

9 TRUE REASONS WHY MEN DO AND FREQUENTLY SHOULD GET MARRIED!!!

marriage-fingers-hooked

Marriage is the best way to give offspring a stable, secure, relationship learning environment.

Marriage is a legal document which does not condone adultery and gives a man a sense of pride, rightful possession, and responsibility to spouse and offspring.

Marriage is a commitment during the good and bad times and theoretically guarantees more than a fair weather friendship. It is a source of emotional and sometimes financial support in time of need during a hoped for lifetime.

Sharing the good and bad times makes the good times better and the bad not so bad or traumatic. Managing life as a committed team is frequently more satisfying.

A man would like to improve upon the family he never had or had but with needed improvements so that he can perhaps someday be proud of his offspring legacy.

He loves the idea of committing to someone who accepts and supports him with all his weaknesses or faults.

Safe and reliable sex is something which he enjoys.

He has probably fallen in love with a woman’s looks and personality and the rare man has also fallen in love with the woman’s smarts.

He can financially support a family or support a nanny for a working wife. Of all the reasons to get married this is the most important one which should almost always come first.

MEN’S OVERALL HAPPINESS SEEMS JUST AS IMPORTANT IF NOT MORE SO THAN WOMEN’S IN A MARRIAGE!!!

article-2384327-1B25155D000005DC-989_634x424

Here is an updated and increasingly valuable article about spouse relationships. The only point that I disagree with is that you have to create a mythology or tell stories about the way that you first met and this is totally unnecessary for a happy long duration marriage.

Also no marriage is the ideal 50/50 relationship and the reality is that many are out of balance slightly with 30/70 relationships also being functional or workable ones because one partner may contribute more to the marriage in more ways than the other spouse does.

THE TRUTH ABOUT GOALS

Goals

What is the purpose of life? One way of looking at life is to say that it is the setting of goals and achieving them consciously and/or unconsciously.

Eating and drinking are daily goals and we frequently have to decide what we will eat and drink and when. Other common goals are schooling, working, shopping, socializing, getting married, dating, and enjoying pleasant pastimes.

Most of us settle into routines or habitual behaviors and just live life without making any dramatic long duration goals which frequently require much talent such as becoming a celebrity, business success, or an important leader in an organization.

Few of us consciously set priorities in our life and determine which goals are realistically worth pursuing and which ones aren’t that important to strive for and do because they are not that realistic or they are just a waste of time, energy, and money. This leads many to lead rather mundane lives with some randomness which seldom results in huge successes or achievements in life.

Not many budget their money, set priorities, schedule time in their life, and make long duration goals but have their hands full and are caught up in the daily struggle to survive financially, just try to hold on to a job, and live life struggling with many setbacks, disappointments, and failures.

Life is ever changing for most of us and what we do as young adults, in middle age, and in old age can be very different with different sets of priorities or goals.

Finally that you can be what you want to be is not always a good philosophy to have because you may be biting off more than you can chew or can be setting unrealistic goals in your life. It is very important that you consciously try to assess you true abilities and potential and make realistic goals so that you don’t become pessimistic about life and live a tragic life of too much failure and disappointment.

You can still be happy with life if you no longer have lofty goals but more realistic ones which will not stress you out and be constant blows to your ego and sense of self-worth.

CONCLUSION:

Budgeting your money, setting priorities, scheduling the time in your life, working hard, and learning new skills and knowledge are great goals to have and they will help you to make much progress in life but they may not be enough to land you your dream job or a prestigious leadership position.

Instead of becoming pessimistic and sinking into depression readjust your priorities or goals in life to more realistic ones.

Don’t be afraid of change which may lead to new possibilities of failure because new experiences will help to teach you more about your real potential in life. You will learn and make adjustments and hopefully optimize the possible realistic happiness in your life.

If you don’t like the way things are turning out then set new priorities or make new goals and there is a good chance that things will improve or you may have to change your goal priorities again if there is no improvement which satisfies you.

Never give up living life because it is the only life which you were given. Make the best of it that you can!

THE TRUTH ABOUT DESTINY

ralph-waldo-emerson-destiny

Destiny: n. your fate which has been modified by making and achieving goals in your life.

Talking about fate frequently assumes that no matter what you do in life you will die of disease, an accident, or have a terrible life filled with mistakes and failures and there is basically nothing which you can do to change this fate.

I like to think of life in terms of your destiny which means that through personal will and effort you can frequently minimize disease, avoid accidents, and make your life happier by making smart choices in life and avoiding unnecessary bad risks which will just bring much unhappiness and pain in your life.

Stop making new goals in life or stop trying to achieve old goals in life and you will let circumstances or outside influences determine your destiny to a large extent. Continue making new goals or pursuing old ones and you have the potential to make your destiny turn out more to your liking.

Few of us are movers and shakers in society who get remembered historically because of their relatively large impact on society but we can consider our lives to be worthwhile if we set many goals and actually achieve many of them. The goals can be relatively mundane such as a good family life, visiting some of the natural wonders of the world, or living an active interesting life pursuing hobbies and fulfilling activities which make you look forward to another day of living.

Your destiny may just be to sample many of life’s pleasures on a budget and live a healthy life on into old age.

You can of course choose to live a selfish, frantic, hedonistic, drug filled life of pleasure which will not last long but may give you a very intense even enjoyable lifestyle while it lasts. Your fate will be to crash and burn and if you are lucky you will survive with your life which will never again probably be a normal life.

Destiny is your fate and what you do in life to try and change the possibility of bad fate upsetting or ending your life. By setting smart goals in life you can avoid many stupid goals which frequently lead to bad fate and a bad destiny.
