Humane: adj. interacting compassionately and/or causing least harm on a lifeform(s)
Historically human cruelty and neglect have caused much torture, slavery, violence, pain, and misery and only recently has there been an attempt at remedying the situation. A humane approach is an attempt to minimize suffering in a compassionate way causing the least harm to a lifeform(s).
The humane society for pets and animals and animal control rather than killing was created and a humane treatment of criminals and prisoners has been a never ending struggle. A humane humanistic approach to social problems has been an attempt to minimize violence, pain, and misery in civilization. Nevertheless suffering persists in some parts of the present modern day world with forms of oppressive child and sex slavery and terrible inhumane working conditions.
