HELPING OTHERS WILL OFTEN MAKE YOU HAPPIER!!!

 A-person-has-two-hands-One-for-helping-himself-the-other-for-helping-others

Helping others, giving to charity, or volunteering reinforce our moral values and actually chemically makes us feel better. Giving to charity is a transient good feeling but volunteering and interacting with humans and giving something of yourself usually increases your sense of selfworth and makes you feel good about the kindness which you are demonstrating. Gratitude on the part of the receiver is also appreciated and makes us feel good about an overall positive interaction.

Volunteering can not only boost your selfesteem but it can also boost your friendliness quotient and improve your bonding potential with others. Volunteering can be a rewarding experience, it can boost your mood, give you a sense of purpose, lower stress, and give you a sense of belonging to the community. Volunteering also can increase your sense of gratitude for what you have and will provide guidelines for how you can help yourself in times of need.

Most important is helping others by mentoring them to succeed in life. Whether you are mentoring offspring or an adult to follow in your footsteps and then exceed you, you are creating the leaders of tomorrow and this will give you great satisfaction latter in life. The bonding which happens during mentoring can lead to lifelong friendships which will definitely increase your happiness quotient.

Finally kindness is often contagious and often reciprocated by moral humans whom you are being kind to. Being able to help a friend in need with advice or other kinds of emotional or physical support will make you happier in many cases and your friend may reciprocate the favor at some point in the future. Even though the personal benefits of volunteering or helping acquaintances and strangers may not be as rewarding as helping a friend it can be rewarding none the less.

There are sociopaths, selfish individuals, and miserly types who help others only if they feel that they will get more back at some point in the future. Most moral individuals have been taught that helping others or being kind is a good thing and they help others because they feel it is the righteous thing to do and they feel good doing it most of the time. Interaction with moral humans is what makes happiness possible so don’t be overly disappointed or unhappy if not everyone appreciates your kind helping attitude because not everyone is moral.

21 WAYS TO BE HAPPIER FOR COMMON HUMANS NOT DRIVEN AMBITIOUS INDIVIDUALS!!!

40dc5e7acc80848eb4a311fac0c69dec

Ambitious driven individuals derive much happiness from loftier goal setting, taking calculated risks, and work feverishly trying to overcome the challenges on the road to hoped for success.

Common humans are more laid back, live rather mundane lives, derive happiness by being grateful for what they have, and are relatively happy with a relatively low level of achievement.

It is much easier for common humans to be happy because they have lower expectations out of life than ambitious driven individuals and the following ways generally make them happier:

They don’t hold grudges:

They don’t fester with vengeful and resentful feelings towards others who may have offended them with bad remarks or behavior. If it is not immoral behavior like lying they tend to try and forgive and forget because they view human error as imperfect behavior which can be forgiven if it does not become an annoying repeated frequent characteristic. Their general philosophy is live and let live and they don’t sink into depression, anxiety, or stress every time they get offended by someone.

They treat almost everyone with sincere kindness:

They try to treat almost everyone with love, dignity, and respect in a friendly way and increase the probability that they too will be treated the same way in return. Doing so makes them more likeable humans and having this positive attitude is a happier state than treating humans in an impersonal way.

They view problems as doable challenges and not unpleasant tasks:

A problem is viewed as a challenge with a highly probable satisfactory solution and not a drawback or a difficult struggle. They prefer solving problems with an optimistic rather than pessimistic approach.

They are grateful for what they already have:

There is a popular saying that “The happiest people don’t have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.” Contentment is greater if you count your blessings rather than yearn for what you don’t have.

They have realistic dreams:

Many yearn or dream of celebrity status in sports, media, and acting. Happy humans have more realistic goals or dreams which they have a higher probability of achieving and don’t waste their time dreaming of the highly improbable.

They don’t get bogged down in trivial rather unimportant problems or behavior:

They are aware of and have established what the most important priorities are in their life and don’t obsess with the trivial rather unimportant things in their lives. They don’t sweat the small stuff.

They try to focus on and say nice things about humans:

Unless a human is behaving immorally they tend not to gossip and prefer to say nice things about humans instead of the bad.

They try not to make excuses for their failings in life:

If they make a mistake or fail at fulfilling a promise or task then they take full responsibility for their actions and don’t try to blame others or circumstances for their failure. They learn from their mistakes and try not to repeat them again and don’t try to justify them with an excuse which solves nothing.

They enjoy the present:

Instead of worrying about the past or future they happily live in the present and derive as much happiness from the present moment as they can.

They get enough sleep most nights:

Getting enough sleep at night means waking up fresh, being recharged, and ready to go and not being handicapped by feeling tired which hurts productivity and performance at most tasks during the day.

They don’t envy and don’t obsess with comparisons with humans with more success or greater social rank:

Comparison with others is inevitable on the conscious and subconscious level but happy humans aren’t driven by a desire to keep up with the Joneses or a desire to be better than others. Instead they celebrate or praise the achievements of others without overt envy. They are generally trying to improve themselves but don’t consider themselves failures if they don’t quite measure up to others.

They choose friends wisely:

They associate more with optimistic good moral humans with integrity and minimally expose themselves to bad humans with many flaws who have more than their share of misery in their lives.

They are more interested in pleasing themselves rather than others:

They realize that they can’t please everyone and not even most humans so they realistically try to please themselves and do what they think is morally right and maintain their integrity no matter what others may say about them.

They have adequate social skills:

Happy humans are usually not loners but derive satisfaction from having a happy family, happy friends, or a happy significant other, and radiate contagious happiness with potential new acquaintances. They are happy being by themselves but also derive happiness by being with others.

They aren’t afraid to spend some alone time:

They enjoy alone time when they daydream, think, meditate, introspect, or just relax with a favorite hobby or pastime.

They eat healthy and get enough exercise and sleep:

A healthy mind and body is essential to happiness and maintaining optimum health means eating healthy, exercising, and getting enough sleep.

They try to live simply:

Material clutter and big cars and houses can be more stressful and a greater responsibility than living a simpler life with fewer material possessions and smaller car and house. Living simply means less financial responsibility and it means that you need less money for basic needs to be met. Driven ambitious humans seldom live simply but smart common humans should to optimize happiness.

They don’t try to find happiness in bad addictive behaviors:

Some try to find happiness in bad addictive behaviors such as gambling, drugs, alcohol, gluttony, excessive shopping, pornography, and promiscuity. Truly happy humans avoid or have minimum exposure to these harmful long duration addictions.

They realize and accept that some things can’t be changed:

Instead of constantly complaining how unfair life is they realize that they can’t change most of the bad things in this life and are content with trying to improve themselves or doing the best that they can with what they have at their disposal.

They maintain their integrity:

They are basically sincerely honest and moral and do not like lying and deceiving like sociopaths do. They are respected by most humans that they interact with and if they are trustworthy, dependable, competent, friendly, and empathetic then they are also admired by many humans. They derive a feeling of great selfworth from their integrity.

They have relatively few of these 32 bad habits:

THE TRUTH ABOUT PATRONIZE+

maxresdefault

Patronize: v. to communicate with seeming kindness but revealing a sense of superiority

Have you been patronized by your boss, parents, or powerful friends?

The answer is that you probably aren’t aware of it if it does exist because someone who is being kind to you does not usually come across as wielding his or her superiority over you.

Humans in powerful positions or in positions of authority can patronize you since they feel superior to you and may only be faking kindness to you.

THE TRUTH ABOUT COURTESY***

common courtesy

Courtesy: n. using good and/or right etiquette

Social etiquette varies slightly from culture to culture but kindness and consideration for another’s needs is what courtesy is all about.

Holding the door for the next human, making more room in an elevator, letting a customer with few items go first at the checkout line, giving up your seat for the handicapped on a bus, not using profanities, saying “please” and “thank you”, not talking loudly, dressing appropriately, not pointing at someone, not staring at someone, etc. are just a few examples of courteous behavior.

Meanness and/or rudeness is what frequently happens when courtesy is ignored and humans will instantly think less of you as a human.

What is true is that private household etiquette is frequently much different than social etiquette and it is easy for offspring who have been living a sheltered existence at home to lack courtesy in public, especially saying “please” and “thank you” where appropriate. Youth is frequently more selfish and rebellious against proper social etiquette and it sometimes takes them much more social exposure to learn the acceptable cultural norms which are gradually changing too.

THE TRUTH ABOUT NICE

ingela-arrhenius-be-nice-to-the-world-poster-by-omm-design

Niceness: n. good and/or right behavior(s) towards a human(s) and/or an animal and this behavior(s) is frequently done politely and/or respectfully and/or caringly and/or kindly and/or friendly and/or courteously and/or modestly and/or with just praise

We frequently like nice humans. Those are the ones that are polite, respectful, caring, kind, friendly, courteous, give appropriate compliments, and generally make us feel good in their presence.

Being nice is a social skill and if you need many friends or acquaintances in your life then you should learn how to be nice to humans whom you want to impress in a good way.

You don’t have to be nice all the time, especially if you are in a leadership position which may require firing and criticizing where appropriate, but as the old saying goes-you can attract more humans with honey rather than vinegar, so being nice is the honey which you should be using most of the time.

One very overlooked area which should be treated nicely is wilderness plants and animals. Be nice to them and don’t steal their real estate!

THE TRUTH ABOUT KINDNESS

pledge card front

Kindness: n. relatively small medium intensity caring which isn’t requested

Humans rarely say be kind to me because kindness is small caring things done which are not requested. If you nurture and/or protect a human in a small way then you are being kind. It frequently involves giving something which you have- your time, expertise, praise, advice, small gifts, and a little money.

I have listed only a few of the possibilities of unrequested kindnesses:

Saying I like you

Complimenting someone on doing or saying the right thing

Asking “How are you?” and listening intently and caring about the response

Introducing yourself to someone whom you always see around

Offering free professional advice or offer advice if you see someone has a problem which needs a solution

Holding the door or elevator for someone

Showing courtesy on the road

Making a family cook a meal for them

Giving up your seat on a train or bus to someone who seems to need it, especially the handicapped

Hugging a friend

Mentoring someone’s offspring

Visiting a senior center and talk to or entertain some of them

Volunteering somewhere without being asked

Donate food to a food bank or donate old clothes to a shelter

Paying for a meal for a homeless human

Planting a tree (being kind to nature)

Recycling (being kind to nature)

Returning wildlife to the wild ( being kind to nature)

I am not a believer in random acts of kindness, especially to total strangers. Giving small amounts of money to humans who don’t ask for it is stupidity not kindness and giving small amounts of money to strangers who ask for it is also stupidity and not kindness!!!!!!

MOTIVATIONAL WORDS BEGINNING WITH THE LETTERS K AND L

slide_242044_1870040_free

KINDNESS

Kindness is medium intensity caring and the behaviors which exist with it.  Kindness is a medium intensity nurturing and protective behavior towards another who has suffered misfortune and/or has done a bad and/or wrong thing. Being very kind is the same as loving.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge is a mentally stored retrievable collection of personal (skills and/or facts) and/or (theories and/or fictions gotten by experience) and/or education. Knowledge is used to make a personal goal(s) and to make a goal(s) by present and future generations if it has been stored as information on a device from which it can later be retrieved if it is permitted by law.  Some information suchas the manufacture of nuclear weapons or the making of contagious deadly lifeforms should be censored information.

LIBERTY

Liberty is political and social and economic freedom to pursue a goal(s) but limited by just laws which are presently at a very low standard of justice.

LIFE

While there is life in you then goals can be made and achieved.  When you are gone goals will be planned and achieved by the living humans, plants, and animals.

LOVE

A very intense pleasure from a thing one cares about and the behaviors which exist with it. There is a large probability that we will pursue a goal(s) which we love.

LOYALTY

Loyalty is when you are intensely attracted to a goal(s) which is frequently (a human(s) and/or an organization(s)) and/or a belief(s).  Loyalty may mean that you also love that human(s), organization(s), and belief(s) but it may also mean that you are merely behaving in loving ways but not feeling love because of a fear of being rejected.  Loyalty can sometimes last longer than it should especially when the immorality of the subjects of the loyalty becomes public knowledge and socially unacceptable.

LUCK

Depending mostly on chance or luck to achieve most of your goals means that you are ignoring the more important power of planned effort to achieve a goal(s).  Luck is a largely improbable method to achieve a worthwhile goal(s).
