THE 4 STAGES OF MORAL DEVELOPMENT BY ULDIS SPROGIS!!!

The first stage is the premoral stage or the stage that young offspring are at where they view every behavior in terms of reward or punishment. Since their inborn human nature is very selfish with a desire to take for personal benefit and to dominate or control others including siblings and parents, the premoral stage is where the wild human animal is being conditioned to behave according to acceptable social norms and the norms of the family.

The second stage which really exists throughout adult life also is the stage where you realize that there are exceptions to behavioral rules. For example, you may have to say please, thank you, and hold the door open for strangers in public but in the privacy of your home you can forgo these public behavioral norms and even curse once in a while. You come across different behavior rules in school, on the job, in a profession, and speaking in public so you realize that there are rules to fit the occasion or the circumstance.

As an adult you learn that stealing can be justified in emergency situations if you are starving with skin and bones and on the verge of dying in a big city, unless of course you have accessible garbage dumpsters.

Lying can be justified in emergency situations if a criminal with a visible gun asks if your offspring are at home.

If someone at the point of a gun orders you to commit adultery then you may have to obey him or her as long as you are in their presence and in imminent danger of death which is another emergency situation.

The third stage of moral development is an adult obeying the law as a duty to society at large and to personally avoid a penalty fee or possible prison.

The fourth stage of moral development is the constitutional stage where you consider questions of individual and minority versus majority rights. Here we have the concept of human welfare and how far society should go or pay to protect the rights of the individual or minority.

The reverse is also a consideration and the moral question is what percentage of individual income should go towards the general welfare or general good to avoid enslavement of the individual or a minority. Concepts such as gender equality, gay rights, religious rights, free or moral speech, and quality and/or quantity of human life are also constitutional moral and legal questions.

Conclusion:

There is the first premoral stage of development when you are learning the basic rules and morality as offspring with rewards and punishments,

the second stage at which you learn that there are not only exceptions to behavioral norms but emergency exceptions to basic moral norms too,

the third adult stage where you try to obey the law for personal and societal benefit,

and the fourth constitutional stage where you debate the concepts of individual and minority rights versus majority rights and try to strike an acceptable realistic balance between the three rights. The moral questions of just taxation, just government budgeting, minimizing environmental damage, and tolerance of minority values is of importance and appropriate changes in the constitution are made if necessary.

THE TRUTH ABOUT DEFIANCE

250px-defiance_logo_tv_show

Defiance: n. boldly resisting and challenging authority and/or the law

You can resist and challenge authority and/or the law rather covertly or in secret as some do when they feel victimized by an unjust legal situation. It is usually much rarer that someone will openly resist and boldly challenge an authority figure and/or the law. Offspring can sometimes be defiant against parents but the ultimate and most dangerous immoral defiance is unrepentant criminals who violently defy the law and police.

THE TRUTH ABOUT BREACHEV+

breach of contract

Breachev: v. to disobey a (law and/or agreement) and/or code of conduct

Breaching whales are a beautiful sight so I chose to define a unique new word for breach which historically meant breaching a contract or breaching accepted behavior or disobeying a code of conduct.

THE TRUTH ABOUT CHEAT+

cheating-is-a-choicce

Cheat: v. to deceive to gain an unjust advantage which may or may not be a fraud which frequently is a punishable offense and at a minimum immoral behavior not punishable by law

Cheating on your spouse is adultery and cheating on your taxes is a fraud and both are punishable under the law.

Cheating on your exam or at cards is immoral behavior which is punished by your teacher if caught or punished with ostracism from future card games by your card playing buddies because both are immoral acts of stealing the rules of just behavior. In both cases it is assumed that the information which you have has not been changed from the original content in your mind with a cheat sheet or in the case of cards that the original card information has not been changed physically or with unjust covert information about the cards being held by opponents.

Using unjustly gotten information to help you take a test or win at cards is immoral stealing of information from authorities or card playing buddies who should be justly informed of your wrong actions and should have been notified of the rule changes which you made or the rules of just behavior which you disobeyed or stole.

Cheating in these cases was either stealing information which you had no right to or adding information physically such as a cheat sheet or extra cards to gain an unjust advantage.

What does to gain an unjust advantage mean? It means to add and/or subtract a forbidden subset(s)

THE TRUTH ABOUT FORBID*

forbid-srt-logo

Forbid: v. to not give permission to do by authority and/or law

Society forbids you to do many things but most important is what you forbid yourself to do. Don’t forbid yourself the use of addictive drugs, excessive alcohol drinking, excessive gambling, lying, financial irresponsibility, adultery, and excessive arguing and your life can become a very unhappy, miserable, problem filled existence.

Living a moral life with good moral friends will not guarantee a trouble free existence but it will be much better than one lived with rampant immorality.

Learn what important things to forbid yourself and you will have avoided most of the addictive bad habits in life.

Hinder: v. to temporarily delay a lifeform(s)’ goal(s) with a subset(s) which is frequently (a different lifeform(s) and/or a barrier(s)) and/or (a law(s) and/or a command(s))

Reaching a goal(s) may be hindered by a lifeform(s), barrier(s), law(s), and command(s). Most hindering is not permanent and when the source of the hindering goes away you can usually do what you set out to do or say in the first place.

THE TRUTH ABOUT INFRINGEMENT*

iflogostandard2

Infringement: n. partially disobeying a law and/or right

Infringement on your right to free speech may be limited to moral free speech which means that you can’t lie about someone or something but can freely speak in all the other possible ways or all subject matters with the possible exception of child pornography, internet pedophiles, and internet stalkers which can get censored.

Infringement on your right to privacy on the internet by the government may be justified as an efficient way to keep criminals, hackers, and cyber terrorists from becoming a serious personal or public threat to humans.

Infringement on your right to own property may be made to get you to pay back taxes to the IRS.

Copyright infringement is also quite common in the form of plagiarism which often takes part of someone’s work and claims it to be one’s own.

Driving slightly over the speed limit or 130 km per hour in a 110 km per hour speed zone is infringing on the law which you sometimes can get away with since officially you are subject to a speeding violation of driving 20 km per hour over the limit.

THE TRUTH ABOUT LEGALITY*

rsz_legal-and-illegal-options-with-legal-circled-960x645

Legality: n. a behavior(s) and/or subset(s) permitted by law including all the implied permitted social behaviors which are not recorded and may be done

There are legal things which you can do according to law, there are legal public things which you can do and not get punished because they are acceptable public norms but not written into official laws, and there are legal things which you can do in the privacy of your own home or on your personal property.

Criminal and violent or abusive behavior in private is theoretically illegal but is sometimes hard to prosecute without probable cause or evidence of the illegality.

With so many unjust laws on the books you are probably involved in doing something illegal without even knowing it or doing so because the law is so unjust in your personal opinion that it deserves to be disobeyed.

It is theoretically illegal to discriminate against women on the job and illegal to discriminate on the basis of sex, race, religion, and handicap but it is subtly being done all the time since humans are impulsive creatures conditioned by past experience, beliefs, and prejudicial views which are held by almost everyone to some degree because of the herd instinct in all of us.

Historical prejudices die hard and most make decisions based on stereotypic beliefs about human types. They are quick to stereotype humans into preconceived impulsive categories. Caution based on fear of the unknown and difference persists and humans tend to shy away or try to avoid certain stereotypic humans based merely on looks and behavioral quirks.

It’s illegal to discriminate but the truth is that we do out of necessity discriminate between humans based on looks and behavior alone in an impulsive way and seldom give enough time to many humans to prove themselves to be worthy of our attention and respect.

THE TRUTH ABOUT OBEDIENCE+

obedience

Obedience: n. accepting and doing a command(s) which is frequently a (law(s) and/or rule(s)) and/or social norm(s)

As parents we expect a certain amount of obedience from our offspring. Some even want obedience from their pets and sometimes train them or bring them to obedience schools.

In the adult world we obey rules, laws, and social norms all designed to give society a certain amount of predictability.

Teenagers frequently rebel against parental and social norms and try to disobey them with usually bad consequences. There is nothing new in human nature and once we learn more and more about it we then become more tolerant of human deviance or at least learn to live with it if it deviates in a moral way and is not an expression of immorality.

With government laws being so numerous and more being added on yearly there will always be humans disobeying them to some extent since they are unjust in many special circumstances and not worthy of obedience.

Penalty: n. punishing by law and/or authority

There are usually penalties for disobeying rules and there are also penalties or punishments for disobeying the law.

Sports penalties are probably the most common ones that most humans encounter and there are also parental penalties for offspring bad behavior in families.

THE TRUTH ABOUT PROPOSITION+

proposition 31_0

Proposition: n. communicating a judgement and/or opinion and seeking approval for what is usually a (rule(s) and/or concept(s)) and/or (law(s) and/or plan(s))

Changes in local and state laws sometimes go through a proposition procedure where humans are asked to vote for or against a proposition designed to become a law.

In the business world propositions are made to change rules, adopt new business plans, and innovate business procedures.

In everyday life you can consider a suggestion to be an unofficial proposition. A proposition is usually much more formal than a suggestion.

THE TRUTH ABOUT STRICTNESS+

Strict-Parents-Rules_thumb[2]

Strictness: n. demanding complete obedience to a law and/or behavior

Historically and still in many parts of the world strict parenting is still in style with demands for “proper” behavior from offspring. Strict parenting rules are appropriate for strict religious upbringing but not that great for western cultures where a more democratic approach is recommended for teenagers, although stricter rules for young offspring are desirable.

I would recommend a strict secular moral code for young impressionable minds and that is- except in emergency situations- don’t destroy biodiversity, don’t lie, don’t be inefficient, don’t steal, don’t commit adultery if married, and don’t murder. Once you establish an impulsive tendency towards moral behavior then the rest of your behavior becomes much easier and you don’t have to constantly ask yourself- Is what I am doing right or wrong?

Having a strict secular moral code is desirable but strict laws are sometimes greatly flawed in special circumstances and for special humans so some laws are broken because absolute rules are not the best way that the real world functions. It is not always yes or no, obey or disobey, but there are times when is most of the time, some of the time, and almost never. I obey the law most of the time, some of the time, and almost never.

Complete obedience to all laws all the time is absolute obedience to them and this is often very unjust for minority groups and handicapped humans with special exceptions. Absolute laws frequently trap humans into blind obedience causing them some personal harm, hardship, or great inconvenience.

THE TRUTH ABOUT PERMISSION***

6a00e008d95770883401348901be41970c

Permission: n. giving a legal and/or natural possibility to do a subset(s)

Getting permission to do something from an authority figure is a fact of life in society. You need to get permission to do certain things from your older offspring, parents, teachers, coaches, and bosses. To be polite you even need to get permission to enter a conversation between two humans intensely discussing something.

Rebelling against authority and not asking for permission to do something is something teenagers frequently do but in many cases it is not something illegal that they are doing.

Paying for something is a way of getting permission to do many things such as skydiving, para sailing, driving a rental car, and getting into a theme park.

Getting a license or permission to do something legally is a fact of life in an over regulated society where even lemonade stands, bake sales, and garage sales in some localities are required to get licenses before they can sell their goods.

HOW TO FIND A “GOOD” LAWYER!!!

legal-advice

Stacy Johnson frequently has some useful articles on subjects affecting your money and this one I decided to share with you. It is entitled -How do I find a good lawyer?

http://www.moneytalksnews.com/2014/08/19/ask-stacy-how-do-i-find-a-good-lawyer/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_campaign=email-2014-08-19&utm_medium=email

A referral from an attorney you already trust and have a good relationship with is your safest bet for a local attorney. If you are starting from scratch then try to avoid popularly advertised ones who are mostly in it for your money and how much they can squeeze out of you if you have a good potential case. Really good attorneys, unless they are new and trying to build a reputation, don’t need to advertise and get plenty of business through word of mouth referrals.

A NEW UPDATED CONSTITUTION FOR THE 21ST TECHNOLOGICAL CENTURY

we_the_people

We do need CHANGE in this country, and I am showing you all the concrete steps which should be taken and as fast as possible!

A few of the highlights of the new updated constitution are-

  1. Precocious children with an education level of an average 18 year old should have a right to vote before the age of 18.
  2. Senate is eliminated and replaced by the House of Representatives.
  3. Setting a debt limit of 10% of GNP unless it is a national emergency situation.
  4. Promote efficient rail service between cities with a population of 2 million or greater.
  5. No promoting of Liberal Arts education which will be the sole domain of private institutions of learning.
  6. Monopoly businesses and businesses releasing toxic chemicals into the environment will be taxed a fixed percentage of gross income.
  7. Non monopoly and non-toxic polluting businesses will not be taxed at all.
  8. All national and local elections will be held once every 10 years.
  9. No president will be younger than 25 years old.
  10. Political unity with foreign nations will be encouraged by the House of Representatives by encouraging them to do so voluntarily or through the direct purchase of foreign nations.
  11.  Government will expand wilderness areas by purchasing land at fair market value.
  12.  Citizens without criminal records shall be the only ones who have the right to keep and bear arms.
  13.  Amendment 23 has new rights specified for the unemployed and destitute.
  14.  Amendment 24 specifies the rights of citizens on arrest and detention.
  15.  A new updated Declaration of Independence for the United States and the World.
  16.  Separation of church and state but the religion will have to bear the financial responsibility of any illness or health issues and the unemployment and retirement of it’s members. You want separation? Then bear the full financial responsibility for your independence and separation!!!
  17. A new secular moral code for the nation to be taught impressionable young minds in elementary school nationwide will guarantee that future leaders and citizens will be less corrupt.

The details of these and other changes to the constitution are given in my evergreen book NEW CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES.

Obviously all the above changes can’t be made overnight nor should they but it is an indication of what can be done to make government more efficient and just in the near future. You can come up with your own personal favorite changes to the constitution and discuss them with others or suggest them to me.

I can give justifications for all these changes to the constitution in future blogs based on the feedback which I get on this blog.

The largest change is eliminating the Senate which has political power and is effectively 50 nations operating within a nation. It is 50 very inefficient bureaucracies within an inefficient national bureaucracy. Right to work laws could still exist within the districts who chose to have them. Workman’s compensation should be a national law which is part of medicare and social security. Most of the legal rights now held by states which are different could become part of district laws making those districts unique and with competing political local laws. The power to make unique political laws would be closer to the people and temporary regional biases could be accommodated.
