THE SCIENCE OF PARENTING!!!

This is a brief summary of the edX course Scientific Parenting by Dr. David Barnes at the University of California at San Diego. I learned a lot about the current psychological research into parenting done worldwide. I enjoyed the scientific analysis of the research but for most I would just recommend that you audit the course for free and just watch the outstanding video presentations of the material which is comprehensible to the average layman and a joy to watch an excursion into very intelligent easily understood presentations.

The most impactful knowledge about psychological parenting research is that almost all the studies are correlational and that means that there are no provable cause effect relationships in this research. The result has been much controversy which suggests that the correlation between two variables A and B may in fact be incomplete and that variable C or D may in fact be better correlated with the gathered information from questionnaires.

Several myths were debunked and one of them was that bilingual students or children are in some way better at learning and smarter than monolingual children.

Another myth was that autism is caused by vaccines. Follow up scientific evidence simply does not support this. Still further the original source of the popularized myth article turned out to be Wakefield who had a very small sample in his testing and it turned out that he had a financial interest tied to the conclusions in his later debunked research paper.

Yet another myth was debunked and that is that learning to play a musical instrument increases your learning ability in academic areas which just isn’t so and is a false assumption.

Another myth that was based on unprovable research conclusions was that a sense of basic morality is innate or inborn in young children and that they inherently prefer humans with good over those with bad behaviors.

Another myth that was debunked was that there are unique learning styles which students primarily use to learn things such as visual, auditory, and verbal styles of learning. It was shown that there are no unique learning styles and that most learning is a combination of visual, verbal, and even auditory cues so no one unique style actually exists that is used to learn with.

There is another myth that accelerated learning, advanced placement, or grade skipping leads to students who are socially or relationship handicapped. While there are some exceptions which are evidence for social maladjustment the vast majority of gifted students are not socially handicapped in any significant way.

What I learned was that ADHD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is on the increase in the US population largely because psychiatry has tried to officially label it as a disorder in the DSM-5 psychiatric handbook. The handbook has assigned symptoms to it which are now being very subjectively used to diagnose and treat children who show discipline, hyperactivity, and inability to concentrate problems in school. The result has been a precipitous increase in diagnosis of ADHD in children followed by what I think is an unethical medication of these students with pills that alter the brain chemistry often with adverse long duration side effects. Some states only insure diagnosed ADHD students so just like the psychiatric profession there is a money incentive to label someone as ADHD which is theoretically now a mental illness even though other societies in the world do not have such high rates of ADHD.

What I also discovered was that the Nature vs. Nurture or Genetics vs. Environment debate is still unresolved in much parenting research and there is some debate as to whether genetic inheritance from parents or environmental factors play a larger role in parenting success in specific areas of parenting which are discussed or investigated. For example in studies of aggression in children there is some debate as to whether aggression is primarily a function of the environment such as the kind of discipline, peer role models, financial poverty, etc. or is it primarily inherited parental genes with a tendency towards aggression compounded by aggressive parents as role models?

I really liked the course Scientific Parenting and would highly recommend it to present and future parents.

6 LEARNING TYPES OR SUBSETS!!!

RANDOM MEMORIZATION of information without making any logical connections:

Examples are memorizing random dates, times, scores, words, and numbers. One may feel that rote memorization of the words for animals and kitchen utensils is memorization without thinking but children do think and make logical connections between the words and relevant objects and/or subjects and/or actions. Memorization without thinking is only possible if you are memorizing random meaningless numbers and/or words.

MEMORIZATION is memorizing information and/or a word with one or more logical and/or illogical connections to reality.

You can say that memorizing 2+ 2 = 5, God is Love, Love is God, Liberals are Conservatives, and cats are omnipotent are all illogical statements but they can still be memorized. Fortunately most memorized words such as robin, home, quarterback, anger, jealousy, running, and volcano have some logical connections to reality. Sadly many fantasies, fictions, and lies can be memorized and believed and this memorization of “bullshit” is a very common cause of irrational or illogical thinking in humans.

Memorization of information can be almost anything but the primary forms of non verbal information are visual, audio, physical or muscle and touch, and other sensing information within the body.

MEMORIZATION OF CAUSES AND EFFECTS:

This includes the memorization of visual, audio, physical, and other sensing cues which relate to internal body senses and the sensing of the external environment of objects, subjects, and actions.

Examples are memorizing that you will burn your hand if you place it on a burning stove too long, breaking bones and possibly killing yourself if you jump from a 20 meter roof onto a concrete driveway, a visual memorization of parts of a movie, a memorization of instrumental music, and making someone angry, aggressive, or shocked if you push them too hard for no reason at all and call them an asshole.

CLASSIFICATION: Memorizing the details of something or memorizing the subsets of a set:

Examples are memorizing the parts of the body, the parts of a gasoline engine, definitions of words, separating movies or songs into genres, and all the names of animals in a species.

ANALYSIS: Taking a set and finding as many subsets as you can even though some of the subsets may overlap themselves:

Examples are statistical analysis, numerical analysis, making an outline for an essay, analyzing musical and video transitions, analyzing the defensive strategy of an opposing football team, and finding and listing all the ingredient preparations and/or additions in a recipe.

SYNTHESIS: Taking subsets and trying to form sets with them:

Examples are taking Legos and making familiar object shapes from them, mixing two or more chemicals and making them react, taking all the parts of an engine and assembling them into a complete engine, selecting an offensive play to counteract defensive actions of an opposing team, and using paints to form a picture.

***Creative or innovative learning is just the process of subconsciously and consciously analyzing and synthesizing information or objects, subjects, and actions, sometimes in a very impulsive way, and making some cause effect experiments or assumptions, so creative learning is really not a unique form or type of learning.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SKILLS***

customer-service-training-skills1

Skill: n. an ability(s) gotten by learning with systematic and/or frequently repetitive behavior(s)

Eating with a spoon, playing the guitar, talking, or being a politician are all skills learned systematically and usually with much repetition. Broadly speaking there are physical or motor skills and mental skills and then a combination of both.  How quickly we memorize these motor or mental skills frequently determines how skilled we are and the better we remember them the more skilled we get.

In school how good we are in a subject is frequently determined by the grade which we get and if we are good at memorizing mentally then we frequently excel in school.

If you are not gifted or talented then sometimes much repetition will compensate for your weakness but there are many skills such as mathematical ability where no matter how hard you try you will just not be able to learn and understand the complexities involved and have to choose other skill sets which you are good at.

In the 21st century technological skills are becoming much more important than liberal arts skills. The new generation will have to be taught accordingly or they will continue to graduate in job poor fields which are outdated and will be relatively useless in the society of the future.

Learning complex skills will be rewarded in the future and unfortunately if you are just an average learner then you may find yourself permanently on the unemployment line replaced by robots or computer software which will be smarter than you. You may become permanently unemployed unless you content yourself with working for minimum wage for the rest of your life.

Hair dressers, massage therapists, some building trades, handymen, auto mechanics, teachers, and landscapers will not be replaced by robots that quickly but there will be a glut of workers in those fields and the pay will usually be very poor.

18 IMPORTANT 21ST CENTURY EDUCATION GOALS!!!

logo

I came across his is an informative, interesting, and relevant list of important education goals or universal skills for the 21st century. Share this knowledge with your offspring who frequently don’t understand what the purpose of education should be. Education must be improved to fit the reality of useful jobs in the rapidly changing technological world.

I would only add that basic science information or subjects should have a prominent role in educating the learners of tomorrow along with calculator math solving real life problems like budgeting income and calculating money percentages. Teaching the meaning of statistics and probability would also be very useful to combat the illiteracy of a yes or no, always or never language bias or mentality. The useful logic of frequency or the use of rarely, not often, sometimes, most of the time, and x percent of the time should be learned.

THE TRUTH ABOUT CONSCIENCE***

conscience-1-728

Conscience: n. learned impulsive motivation to do right which is frequently gotten from ethical and/or moral principles which one believes in

A desirable developed largely impulsive conscience which includes morality and ethical principles helps us to interact peacefully and orderly with other humans.  There are humans such as criminals and psychopaths who seem to have no conscience at all or very little conscience. Even those humans with little conscience act impulsively based on what they have learned in their lives and make decisions on what is the right course of action for them personally and which is not always what most humans do. They have a conscience too although it is a very deviant one.

A thief who associates with other thieves may lie to and steal from others but not lie to or steal from his fellow thieves so there is still some vestige of morality present in that human’s impulsive behavior. Extremely selfish humans may lie, steal, and even murder for personal gain so their conscience is rather limited to what is personally right for them and not others.

Nothing is more potent in developing a good moral conscience than role models with good morally developed consciences. The sooner in life that you start developing a desirable moral conscience, the less it will become vulnerable to undesirable radical changes later on in life. If your parents don’t have desirable consciences then there is less probability that you will have a desirable one too.

THE TRUTH ABOUT LEARNING

dreamstime_xl_27338322

Learn: v. to acquire (knowledge and/or skills) and/or (behaviors and/or experiences)

Learning can actually be enjoyable for those with very good memories and some talent for the physical and/or mental skills necessary to perform school tasks successfully.

Unfortunately most of us have average memories and little if any talent and don’t put in the extra time and effort to learn what we think is important or what really interests us. We trust what others teach us to learn which is what they say is important but quite a large quantity of it is not important and rather useless information.

Most common education is not very useful and is taught in a mediocre uninspiring way so for many learning is a boring seemingly purposeless activity. Liberal arts is going to be increasingly job poor in the 21st technological century and the huge quantity of largely useless liberal arts education should be greatly decreased.

The most effective learning is experience learning where you actively participate in an audio visual way and retain about 70% of the information after two week’s time. This is why individualized interactive audio visual computer education is an improvement over passive classroom learning where you seldom aurally interact with the subject matter and the instruction is not adjusted to your individual learning speed and background of knowledge.

Learning in an explorative active style is the best form of learning with hands on physical objects found in the environment. My recommendation is to have mini science labs in elementary school where students learn the basics of Archimedes principle for floating objects by building little boats of all shapes and sizes out of aluminum foil and putting in objects and/or liquids which make the boats sink or swim.

Exposing young impressionable minds to levers, pulleys, incline planes, pipes, thermometers, magnets, geometrical shapes, scales, springs, weights, tape measures, plastic tools, microscopes, electric motors, calculators, laptops, and safe chemical reactions would also be a good idea to create an interest in the real physical world around them and introduce them to the concept of quantifying objects numerically and not just drawing them or talking about them.

Many graduating adults can’t even budget their money and this can be taught with a calculator in elementary school so the students can teach their parents to be financially responsible.

Artwork such as drawing and painting just exposes young minds to crayon, pencil, colors, and paint with little utilitarian value and most wind up just wasting time randomly creating lines and shapes and colors with minimal precision.

The age of irrational, mindless, verbose, trivial, non utilitarian education should rapidly come to an end if future humanity is to improve and not repeat historical mistakes as much.

THE TRUTH ABOUT TEACHING

teaching

Teach: v. to communicate knowledge and/or skills and/or behavior to another

One on one teaching is the most effective form of teaching in many cases. Teaching to a classroom of students with slow, in between, and fast learners is very inefficient where you bore the fast students and lose the slow students trying to teach to the majority in between students.

In poor neighborhoods absence of discipline, unmotivating dysfunctional families, downward peer pressure, and disrespect of the teachers are all further reasons why traditional classroom teaching fails.

A teacher can try to teach many things to a student but unfortunately experience is sometimes the best teacher when it comes to human relationships and life experiences on the job and elsewhere.

Teachers in poor neighborhoods are plagued with discipline problems and students not willing to learn primarily because of a dysfunctional family life and poor role models who don’t encourage moral, industrious, and achievement oriented behavior.

Most teachers are not paid well and the reason is not obvious to most. Most of them are doing a mediocre job of teaching with mediocre results and deserve mediocre pay.

Quality teachers are rare because poor salaries discourage competence and even good competent teachers feel the frustration of teaching 30 students at a time with a wide range of learning speeds and frequently leave the profession for better more rewarding opportunities elsewhere.

There is some hope that individualized interactive audio visual computer education which is adjusted to your pace of learning may save students from mediocre teaching but only time will tell how speedily it will replace the armies of mediocre human teachers worldwide.

You know how to eliminate the users, the time suckers, and the emotionally needy from your life.

You should have more good friends than just your high school buddies or college roommates but you don’t feel depressed if you only have one good close trustworthy friend.

You understand that being a good listener is better than being a good talker in relationships with humans.

You understand and can interact successfully with all kinds of personalities.

You understand that gossiping lessens your reputation and not theirs.

You can laugh off jerks instead of getting angry or enraged at them.

You know how to select good close friendships and spend most of your time on them and not casual ones.

You know that good close relationships are more important than money.

You know you can eat almost anything in moderation but prefer organic food.

You know what really matters in your life and avoid needless trivial goals.

You have learned to calmly discuss marital problems and not have angry confrontations.

You have learned that spending some time with family is important to balance an urge to be a consummate workaholic.

You know that a successful marriage takes work but you know it is worth it.

You don’t mind spending time alone to recharge or just enjoy some peace and quiet time with yourself.

You know it is perfectly fine to stay at home on Friday and Saturday nights if there is nothing important to do.

You prefer comfortable shoes and clothes over flashy ones.

You aren’t afraid of stopping to read, after the first 5 pages, a best seller everyone is talking about if it is too verbose or uninteresting to read.

You know who you are and are confident that you can change direction and improve who you are at will.

You know the excitement of an office romance and are too smart to engage in one.

You don’t pretend to like bad even horrible music and movies.

You no longer make relatively random bucket lists of things to do but know how to spend most of your time on important priorities.

You try to learn from humans outside your age group because they sometimes have something valuable to offer too.

THE TRUTH ABOUT CURIOSITY

images

Curiosity: n. a desire to acquire new knowledge and/or experiences

Are you stuck in a rut or are bored with your existence and don’t know how to escape it? If this is true then chances are that you may have lost your curiosity or a desire to learn and experience new knowledge and new experiences.

There is superficial curiosity and detailed curiosity and if you just have superficial curiosity then you will usually not get past the propaganda in every field of interest and you will just reaffirm many of your old opinions and prejudices and follow celebrity viewpoints.

If you have detailed curiosity then you will learn new words which apply to an area of interest and you will start developing a more detailed understanding. Detailed curiosity is frequently hard work because you will frequently be going to the dictionary to learn new words and concepts. Even detailed curiosity will not necessarily lead to a better understanding of the area which you are interested in because there are frequently professional vague buzz words which are used to obscure reality and are just expressions of biased opinions which make professionals seem more knowledgeable than they actually are.

Take the stock market as an example. You may start off by reading popular investment books and find out that there are many details, new words, or fundamentals which are written about such as tangible assets, PE ratios, dividends, sectors, hedges, historical average performance, volatility, channeling, indexes, volume, profit, loss, calls, puts, Fibonachi numbers, algorithms, investment aids, etc. and you will get so involved in minutia details that you won’t understand the big picture and the basic fact that stock prices are unpredictable to a large extent and depend on big money investors and fast computers.

The stock market is in fact is being manipulated unfairly causing volatility and the dropping and rising of stock prices for no logical reason whatsoever. The big secret or deception is that the modern stock market is mostly a gambling scam invented to make you lose your money in the short and long duration with very few exceptions.

If you are an average or even millionaire investor then the odds of you making a profit in the stock market are against you no matter what you do because the stock market is basically unpredictable and no amount of detailed information will change that basic fact or big picture unless you have inside information and know where the big wealthy boys are putting their money next.

The only certainty in the stock market is that big corporations will not go out of business overnight and that their stock prices will probably not drop to zero overnight.

I have an insatiable curiosity and want to know the truth about every important subject imaginable and am blogging about what I have discovered over a lifetime. My over 600 evergreen truth blogs and my 17 evergreen truth books are the fruits of my curiosity filtered through a no nonsense logical mind trained in a math and science background and applied to the real non- scientific world also. You may disagree with some of my views but it will usually not be boring.

I have found that my curiosity frequently uncovers just more BS as I delve deeper into any subject matter including theoretical physics. After all that curiosity and writing I am finding out that I am beginning to repeat myself with few new worlds to logically conquer or understand. My search for the new and interesting frequently runs into stuff which I already know about and I am finding fewer and fewer diamonds of information worthy for recording or writing about.

Curiosity will make you drown in a world of BS which you will think is the truth and you will form many untrue opinions and beliefs if you don’t have a logical mind. Curiosity will probably entertain you and you will seldom be bored but if you want to separate fact from fiction then read my writings as much as possible or stay away from verbosity.

Search my website for THE TRUTH ABOUT dating, friendship, marriage, empathy, politics, education, money, technology, justice, truth, etc. and you will find more than a handful of interesting realistic insights and facts about the mythology and deceptions which are rampant in human civilization.

To satisfy your curiosity it is not so important to read a great quantity of information on a subject but it is more important to read quality information. To do so you have to be very selective in what you read and whose writing you read.

Titles of blogs and articles will frequently give you a good hint of whether you will find something interesting and informative to read. Since I have such a great wealth of knowledge I find that I read only about one article in a hundred on websites such as popsci.com, phys.org, and huffingtonpost.com and watch about one in three videos on websites such as Ted.com.

An important question to ask before you read is- Will I learn something really new? or Is it just an article which will reinforce what I already know or believe with much verbosity? In the liberal arts, politics, economics, sociology, education, sports, etc. the longer the article, the more useless verbosity you will probably find in it.

Being curious should mean that you are looking for gems to read about and not mediocre verbose ego trips by authors who have one sentence of useful information to offer you and spend hundreds of words embellishing that information wasting most of your time.

Cutting through verbose crap is not easy and sometimes Googling what you are interested in will give you much more relevant information more quickly. I personally like lists of information about something such as Googling 10 dating mistakes or 10 tips for preventing divorce which automatically gives more than one useful piece of information about what to avoid when dating or tips on how to prevent divorce. Lists will frequently cut through the feel good verbose crap and give you many useful facts which you can apply to your life right away.

CONCLUSION:

Curiosity is a useful motivating factor but just like anything else there is just being curious about anything and selectively being curious and optimizing the benefits of that curiosity. There is a big difference between random largely useless curiosity and purposeful useful directed curiosity. Knowing the difference and making some reading rules to follow can give you quality results and save you much time, energy, money, and effort.

INTERACTIVE AUDIO VISUAL INDIVIDUALIZED COMPUTER INSTRUCTION OR REPLACING CLASSROOM TEACHERS TO A LARGE EXTENT!!!!!!

lab2

Studies have shown that after two weeks have passed we only remember about 10% of what we have read. On the other hand we remember as much as 70% of what we say and 90% of what we see and do physically.

It makes sense to make computer education as interactive as possible with required verbal feedback from subject matter presented audio visually. This means that education should be noisy with the student speaking to the computer screen as much as possible and the computer answering back with audio.

Also for math and science subjects it might be smart to incorporate physical science equipment and mathematical shapes and sizes which the students can manipulate with their hands.

A smart robot teacher interacting with the students physically one on one is the ideal educational model for the future but until such a time a computer screen demanding as much participation on the part of the student as possible is the most efficient economical way of teaching a student with present day technology.

Yes, classrooms of the future will be incredibly noisy with students talking to the computer screen so it would make sense to teach all future students in a sound proof cubicle, have them wear headphones and microphone, or even learn at home in a room where they don’t disturb anyone else.

Reading voluminous amounts of information and reading lengthy textbook material is just not the most efficient way of teaching or learning and it is no great surprise why modern students don’t like to read because it is so passive an experience which we remember very little of.

PARENTING: IMITATION OF ROLE MODELS AND LEARNING FROM USEFUL KNOWLEDGE

follow-the-leader

There are limitations to imitating only parents.  Many humans other than parents are imitated throughout life and sources of new useful information are vital.

Due to the fast technological change in society, and due to the complex increase in specialized skills, no parent can claim to be an expert on everything, not even their young offspring.  It is the responsibility of parents to try to guarantee that their offspring are learning from the best people and the best media sources that their money can afford and their rank in society can help.

Things which you can say to your offspring:

“If you need better role models to imitate, then find other human’s and/or information sources which can teach you.”

“Make friends with a human who can teach you a new and useful skill and/or knowledge and/or give you a useful new experience in life.”

“Find someone to teach you.”

“If math is a problem, ask a friend who is good at it to help.”

”If you want to learn how to drive a motorcycle then find and pay a motorcyclist who can teach you.”

“Find the right information source to learn from.”

“Find an instructional video or DVD and learn from it.”

“Use the internet and/or books and/or magazines to teach you.”

“A professional teacher may not be the best or most economical source for teaching beginning basic skills which require much patience and repetition so learn as much as you can on your own first.”

“Learn as much as you can by yourself and we will find pros when you can’t further teach yourself successfully.”

16 TRUTHS ABOUT EDUCATION OR KNOWLEDGE

5-startups-transforming-online-education-4483e6d74d

There are two educations. One should teach us how to make a living and the other how to live.

The sad fact is that public schools are neither teaching us how to make a good living nor are they teaching us how to live a morally successful life. If you apply moral relationship principles on and off a job then you should have optimal success in life.

There are six honest serving men and women. They can teach you all that you need to know. Their names are-Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How.

If you want to educate yourself on any subject imaginable, find answers to these questions and you will be able to discover and learn the useful knowledge yourself.

A man or woman can learn only two ways, one by reading, and the other by association with smarter humans.

Of course you can also learn by trial and error but this is a very stupid and inefficient way to learn. If you try to associate with smart humans then you will learn much useful information from them.

Practice does not always make perfect.

Practice frequently makes an acceptable performance which is not necessarily perfect. It is frequently a fact that much practicing of a skill must occur before mastery is achieved. This applies to game skills, job skills, and knowledge skills.

Perfection is the domain of robots who can repeat something perfectly every time.  People may try to be perfectionists but very many are not perfect and make many mistakes along the way. Practice does not always make perfect.

Repetition is the best way to learn

This of course is not true if you almost have a photographic memory.

Everyone makes mistakes.

This is true all the time since humans are imperfect creatures and not robots.  What makes for a difference between something good and bad is how many mistakes are made in doing something.  The more mistakes that you make, the worse is your performance at some task.

If you don’t control your mind, someone else will.

This is true in most cases. If you don’t have strong personal beliefs or personal ways of looking at and thinking about events, opinions, facts, and people, you will meet plenty of people who are trying to impose their beliefs and propaganda on you.  Businesses through advertising are always thinking up ways of getting you to buy their product or service. Media commentators and writers would like nothing better than to convince you that their viewpoints are the correct ones to have. Almost everyone would like you to believe what they believe in.

A little general knowledge can go a long way

A little knowledge, especially if it is a true general principle, can be applied over and over again in many areas of life. Be friendly towards people and it will increase the likelihood that they will be friendly towards you.  This is a little knowledge that can go a long way towards improving your relationships with other people throughout a lifetime. Treat others the way that you would wish to be treated is also a little knowledge that is useful throughout a lifetime.

Abstraction is a type of decadence

To the extent that abstraction departs from reality and nature, that is the extent to which it can be considered to be decadent. Nowhere is this more evident than in abstract painting where all natural beauty and reason is absent and all that is left is a gross mutant product or creativity running into a dead end.

Even the best writer has to erase

This just means that even perfectionists make some mistakes.

Experience is the best teacher.

Doing something yourself or physically is frequently a better teacher than learning how to do it in your head. The truth is that the mind and body have to be coordinated to get the best learning results. Learning only through experience can sometimes be a long and arduous process since there might be too much trial and error learning going on. Experience learning can frequently be speeded up and improved with some book or internet learning too.

A little learning can be a dangerous thing.

It is dangerous only if you assume that by acquiring a little knowledge about something you automatically assume that you know all there is about that something. Knowing how to use the accelerator and brakes does not automatically mean that you are a good driver and if you assume that you are, it can be very dangerous.

Elaboration is a form of pollution

Elaboration is an embellishment of the facts which frequently results in rather boring and time consuming rhetoric which can indeed be considered a form of pollution which wastes time, energy, and sometimes money.

Knowledge is power if it has purpose.

Knowledge in the right fields can be powerful and land you a good job. Knowledge in fields such as the arts, philosophy, history and the humanities may leave you with bad job skills that are useful almost nowhere and this can’t be considered to be powerful knowledge.

Knowing yourself lets you understand others to some extent.

This is true because knowing your strengths and weaknesses will help you to identify those same strengths and weaknesses in others. It will not be a complete understanding of others but at least it is a start.

Some knowledge should be advanced at all costs

Scientific knowledge should be advanced at all costs but liberal arts education is so subjective and peppered with so much false and very subjective opinions that most of it is not worth advancing.  Liberal arts education should be promoted by private institutions of learning and not the government. Secular morality should be advanced at all costs and in a nutshell that means in non-emergency situations don’t destroy biodiversity, don’t lie, don’t be inefficient, don’t steal, don’t commit adultery if married, and don’t murder.
