Keep: v. to have for duration extending from a few seconds to a maximum of a lifetime
You can keep your own possession(s) or you can keep the possession(s) of someone else. If it is an adult possession or that of a nonfamily minor then you must first ask or get permission from them to keep it.
Depending on the subset you can keep it a maximum of a lifetime if it lasts that long. To keep something or throw it away or recycle it is an efficient skill only some humans master. Too many keep what they don’t need any more, don’t recycle what should be recycled, and keep what will almost never be used again.
You can also keep and emotional state for duration so that keep calm means have a calm emotional state for duration. Keep going means have movement for duration. Keep off my property means have no movement on my property unless given permission to do so.
