Phenomenon: n. a subset(s) known through the senses and/or sense detecting machines and usually not by imaginary mental thinking
A phenomenon is what exists or can happen in the real world. Imaginary mental thinking is also a phenomenon even though the imaginary subsets are not real or have no physical reality other than being mental impulses.
Electromagnetic waves are phenomenon which humans can only detect with special devices if it is not light or infra red radiation but this phenomenon is still a real part of the universe.
