WHAT DOES RESILIENCE MEAN AND HOW CAN YOU BECOME MORE RESILIENT???

Resilience: n. having an ability to recover relatively quickly from difficult personal consequences

An appropriate personal attitude, an ability to overcome personal mistakes and problems, and resourcefulness in getting help from researched useful knowledge and assistance from others is basically what creates a resilient human who can relatively quickly recover from difficult personal consequences.

A basically optimistic attitude, selfcontrol, selfesteem, and confidence, accepting and adjusting to one’s weaknesses and mostly using one’s strengths, a recognition or selfawareness of one’s and other’s emotional states all constitute an appropriate personal attitude.

An ability to set and choose to pursue realistic goals, having realistic expectations, an ability to gather relevant information or selfeducate, avoiding some serious problems with forethought and advance planning, a financial reserve or insurance for emergencies, and an ability to discuss and think about problems rather than argue about them will all help in learning from your mistakes and help problem solving.

Finally knowing how to selfeducate or use search engines to get relevant information and knowing what humans to consult or get help from on a relevant topic or situation will usually provide the knowledge and assistance necessary to get one out of bad circumstances in a reasonable period of time.

Of course you can ask- how do you develop selfcontrol and problem solving abilities? The answer is selfeducation and/or experience in disciplining oneself and knowledge about problem solving techniques or experience in solving problems. Resilience is not something that we are born with but is something which we usually acquire through the experience of confronting problems and solving them and making mistakes and then correcting them or learning from them so that the same mistakes are not repeated again in the future.

You can live and learn mostly through experience but the smarter ones amongst us learn from the historical experience of others who have confronted similar problems in their lives and solved them or have advice on how to avoid similar problems in the first place. Yes, it greatly helps if you have resilient role models to learn from.

Many humans are not very resilient and get out of their problematic circumstances sooner or often later, but a resilient human will get out of a bad circumstance relatively quickly.

HUMANS ARE MORE LIKELY TO GIVE UP WHEN-

They expect fast results and don’t get them.

They stop believing in themselves and have no confidence.

They get stuck living in the past.

They dwell too much on past mistakes.

They fear future bad circumstances.

They resist or don’t want change.

They emphasize and dwell on their weaknesses.

They feel the world owes them things.

They fear failure more than they desire success.

They seldom visualize what is possible and could be done.

They feel they may have to lose something.

They are overworked.

They assume their problems and circumstances are unique.

They see failure as a reason to turn back.

They feel sorry for themselves and seldom take action.

They give up their power to do and try things.

16 POSSIBLE SOURCES OF UNHAPPINESS AT WORK!!!

unhappy-at-work-rt-sidebar

The basic sources for unhappiness are a difficult job, bad management, bad coworkers, and bad personal work and coping skills. Here in more detail I outline things which can cause you to be unhappy.

Comparing yourself to others.

If you compare yourself to coworkers and find out that they are smarter than you, get more work done, have a better relationship with the boss, have a happier family life, do more exciting or interesting things away from work, have a new car or bigger house, and travel a lot then you might begin to feel inadequate and the comparison can begin to become a source of dissatisfaction and unhappiness for you.

If you try to imitate them then you may get into debt up to your neck and then you will really have a reason to be unhappy. Comparisons can be a source for happiness and pride in oneself if you are better than your coworkers but if not then comparisons are very frustrating and can cause much unhappiness.

Obsessing over things which you can’t control.

If you worry too much about a failing company because of outdated practices or bad management or worry too much about bad coworkers making your life miserable then you will be unhappy. You can’t control company policy nor bad workers so don’t obsess about it and make your life unhappy. Instead start preparing or looking for a better job elsewhere.

Overcommiting yourself or your team.

Making promises above and beyond the call of duty which you or your team can’t fulfill will often result in failure and disappointment which will definitely be a source of unhappiness.

Making excuses for mistakes and failure.

You may blame a mistake or failure on insufficient time, too hard a task, bad advice or interference from coworkers, and problems at home and not try to avoid making the mistake or failing again a second time. Trying to avoid responsibility for your own failed actions will be a source of ongoing unhappiness.

Hating others.

A boss or coworker may greatly offend you with insults, put downs, name calling, humiliation, and ridicule once in a while. If you can change this then take action and if not it is best to try and forgive and forget instead of wallowing in hatred wasting time, energy, and health while feeling unhappy.

Wallowing in past mistakes and wrongs.

Spending too much time thinking about past mistakes and wrongs inflicted on you will make you unhappy. Instead try to learn from your mistakes and wrongs inflicted on you and move forward with courageous optimism trying to avoid a repetition of a bad past.

Trying to “win” every argument.

Trying to win every argument is unrealistically trying to show that you are never wrong. It is best not to argue in the first place which is a primitive way of forcing your opinion on someone. Give in sometimes and concentrate on what is to be done next rather than doggedly standing your ground and both feeling unhappy about the circumstance.

Wasting precious time and energy on malice and gossip.

Sometimes unkind and untrue rumors are spread about a human. Ask yourself how you would feel if the same gossip was spread about you. More importantly find out if the doubtful rumor is true before you spread it further because your honest reputation will suffer and it will be a source of future unhappiness if it is not true.

Worrying what others think of you.

If you have integrity then there is no reason why you should worry if others think less of you and feel unhappy about it. You can’t change their thoughts and frankly it is not your business to read other human minds in the first place.

Blaming others or your job for your unhappiness.

If you feel you have a bad job and/or bad coworkers who are making you unhappy then make the best of it and start preparing for or looking for a better job. Ultimately you are making yourself unhappy because you should be in charge of your emotions. Dissatisfaction with a working environment need not make you unhappy if you don’t let it.

A messy work area.

A messy work area means less efficient work ability causing wasted time looking for misplaced paperwork and objects which can be a source for some unhappiness.

Not taking time to daydream, relax, exercise in place, snack, or meditate on the job.

Nothing is more stressful on the mind and body with possible premature burnout than working feverishly without taking any breaks. The bad emotional and physical effects of overworking can make you very unhappy.

Not getting enough revitalizing sleep.

If you don’t get enough sleep at night your tiredness will adversely affect your work performance the next day and can cause much unhappiness with more mistakes and failure than usual.

Procrastination or wasting time.

Procrastination may mean not meeting a deadline or making mistakes and failing trying to rush a task in the last few hours or minutes. Bad work results can mean much unhappiness and being labeled as being lazy.

Not setting priorities.

Some tasks are more important than others and should be done first. Not properly prioritizing tasks means less efficient working resulting in bad performance and much complaining from management which will make you unhappy.

Being rude, arrogant, mean, deceitful, and disrespectful.

These are just some of the many personality flaws which you may have which will destroy good relationships with coworkers and may eventually get you fired by management causing great unhappiness either way.

9 WAYS TO OPTIMIZE YOUR EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL CONTROL!!!

control-mental

Develop emotional intelligence:

Only about a third of the population is consciously aware of their emotional reactions when they happen or have emotional control and awareness. Those that do understand and can tolerate strong negative emotions in others without aggressively lashing out with defensive anger are also not easily frustrated.

Emotional intelligence is largely learned by much experience or interaction with many diverse humans and it is an ability to read, empathize, and react appropriately with other humans. My educated guess is that having emotionally intelligent parents, coming from a family with many offspring, being a leader of school activities, and socializing much all help in making you more emotionally intelligent at an earlier age since emotional intelligence is largely learned and not an inborn ability.

Develop confidence:

Real confidence originates from competence or a belief that one can handle most situations and human interactions competently. For most average humans competence takes time to learn but high achievers and ambitious humans have a distinct advantage because they are internally motivated or are selfconfident by nature.

Be adaptable:

Recognize that new circumstances or failure may mean doing things a little differently so that old mistakes are not repeated over and over again. Adapting to changing goals, changed circumstances, and changing results is a sign that you have courageously overcome your fear of change and embrace it.

Don’t be afraid to say no:

When you have prior commitments which must be fulfilled one of the worst things that you can do is overburden yourself with new commitments which endanger the old. Avoid saying “I’m not sure”, “I don’t think I can do it”, “I’m not certain”, or “Maybe” because it can be the source for overwork, too much stress, depression, and maybe even job burnout.

Don’t let the fear of mistakes and failure handicap you:

View mistakes and failure as a learning experience and a challenge to not fail the same way a second time. If you think that new useful information, knowledge, or skills are necessary then take time out to acquire them before you attempt some goal again with plan B. Distance yourself emotionally from past failures but don’t forget some of the details which made it into a learning experience, hopefully not to be repeated again the same way.

Revel in your own accomplishments and that of others:

Enjoy and take pride in your accomplishments and don’t depress yourself with a comparison with someone better. Similarly, don’t depressingly point to someone who accomplished more when complimenting another for his or her success.

Don’t hold grudges:

Forgiving without asking for an apology is often the smart thing to do because festering hate or anger is a form of lasting mental victimization which you should want no part of.

Be relentlessly enthusiastic with much optimism:

Don’t let bad current events and bad offensive remarks ruin your optomistic attitude, especially if it is something which you have no personal control over.

Don’t forget to recharge your body:

Try to eat healthy organic food, get enough exercise, and get enough sleep because you can’t function at optimal mental efficiency daily with an unhealthy sleep deprived body.

THE TRUTH ABOUT CARELESS+

careless_world-59821

Careless: adj. not nurturing and/or not protecting a subset(s) and frequently not being methodical and meticulous and not trying to avoid (mistakes and/or dangerous circumstance(s))

A careless mother is not nurturing and/or protecting her offspring well but being careless can also mean not being methodical and meticulous enough and not trying to avoid making mistakes and trying to avoid dangerous circumstances.

Careless behavior at home and on the job is slightly different but only in degree of carelessness. Some humans are careless more frequently than others. Humans have a tendency to like caring humans and if you are the careless type to excess then you will have relatively few friends in most cases and have relatively much difficulty in a spousal relationship.

16 REASONS WHY HUMANS GIVE UP ON THEIR GOALS!!!

img_0994

This blog thanks Rahul Khanna for the inspiration of this article.

WHY DO HUMANS GIVE UP ON THEIR GOALS???

Humans are impatient and want results too fast in a world which is increasingly propagandizing instant gratification.

Humans stop believing they have the ability to reach the goals.

Humans live in the past too much and can’t adapt to modern realities.

Humans dwell too much on past mistakes and fear more future failures.

Humans fear the future and overvalue a relatively comfortable past existence.

Humans really don’t want to change for the better but prefer to live with their existing good and bad habits.

Humans believe their weaknesses are too great to make goal achievement possible.

Humans feel the world owes them something and decide to wait for the world to give it to them.

Humans never take time out to search for or investigate new goals and the potential benefits which may come from achieving them.

Humans feel and fear that they will lose some of the good things which they have if they pursue the new goals.

Humans overwork and don’t leave time or don’t schedule time to pursue future desirable goals.

Humans assume their problems are too handicapping to achieve the goals.

Humans assume that much past failure means that they must give up on their goals.

Humans feel sorry for themselves and want to be pitied for their rather bad circumstances in life and use that as an excuse for not pursuing goals.

Humans lose their desire and motivation to improve themselves and no longer strive for better goals in life.

Humans are too lazy to put in the time, energy, and effort required to achieve goals.

THE TRUTH ABOUT WRONGS+

righting_wrongs_header

Wrong: adj. (untrue and/or unjust) and/or (immoral and/or a mistake(s))

If you make a mistake then it is usually something wrong.

If you intentionally promote or say what is untrue then this is wrong about 99% of the time. What is truth? Read my blogs and books to find out the updated truth on almost everything of importance in your life.

Many of the scientific and religious truths of yesterday are no longer true today so truth is an evolving concept but there is one almost eternal truth and that is HUMAN NATURE which has changed very little for thousands of years.

It is also a universal truth that at minimum, human nature needs a secular moral code to guide it or the result is suffering, injustice, and tyranny. A constitution with a bill of rights also helps to reduce the possibility of tyranny but without any commonly held morality society disintegrates into chaos or anarchy.

If you do what is considered immoral or unjust then this largely depends on your definition of morality and justice and any deviation from it is considered the wrong thing to do by you personally.

What is wrong today may be right tomorrow so wrong is a relative concept and depends on the time and circumstances to some extent.

Humans crave certainty and find it hard to say things such as it is wrong 80% of the time. Archaic language also promotes the absolute idea of yes or no, right or wrong, always or never, and 0% or 100%.

What is wrong right now may not be wrong a few seconds or minutes later. No now may be yes an instant later. Wrong now may be right an instant later.

If you crave peace in this world among humans then have peace of mind if you follow or promote the updated true secular morality. It is except in emergency situations-don’t destroy biodiversity, don’t lie, don’t be inefficient, don’t steal, don’t commit adultery if married, and don’t murder.

In this era of moral confusion I promise you that if you try to follow this secular morality in your life then your life has a high probability of improving and giving you peace of mind. You are doing the right thing without many ifs, ands, or buts.

4 THINGS A GOOD LEADER MUST LIKE!!!

images

A leader must like responsibility.

A leader must like responsibility and know how to surround him or herself with responsible workers. A leader must like honesty, dependability, competence, efficiency, and trustworthiness which makes responsible behavior possible. The buck stops at the leader and he or she gets most of the credit for success or most of the blame for failure. Rewarding or punishing workers appropriately for success or failure is vital to responsible leadership. Sometimes the punishment can be as little as saying -“I know you can do better next time.”

A leader must like communication with humans.

A leader must have emotional intelligence and be able to effectively communicate with workers and motivate them on both the emotional and physical level. A leader knows how to listen carefully to what the workers have to say and gets feedback from them before a job, during the job, and after the job by asking appropriate questions which monitor work performance. You must know how to provide your workers with proper emotional support, material support, and personnel support to get each job done properly or successfully.

A leader must like to solve problems.

Having the right skills, knowledge, and experience with similar problems is vital to leadership and liking to apply these skills to new problems is a sign of competent leadership. Planning ahead and anticipating problems before they happen will frequently save much time and money and maybe avoid many relatively minor problems in the process. Being skilled at researching an issue which is new or unusual and may need a different approach is sometimes vital. Problems are solved with the right skills, knowledge, and experience and the solution is to acquire them or to find humans who already have them in abundance and let them do some of the problem solving for you.

A leader must like learning from and correcting mistakes.

Some leaders make mistakes and don’t learn from them or don’t learn how to correct them by trying again and doing the same thing a little differently. I will not change because I have done this successfully for the past 20 years without failure is a narrow minded philosophy which few innovative leaders can afford in the fast changing technological 21st century. A good leader who makes a mistake will not try to hide from it but openly admit to making it, learn from the mistake, and try to change his or her behavior so that it doesn’t happen again. A good leader views a mistake as a challenge to do better the next time.

Finally a confident leader is a good leader but one with a confident workforce is a great leader!!! Developing a competent and confident staff is an outstanding accomplishment.

THE TRUTH ABOUT BLAME***

blame

Blame: v. to judge responsibility for a (mistake(s) and/or wrong)(s) and/or (injustice(s) and/or immorality(s)) and/or bad circumstance(s)

When you are blaming a human(s) and/or circumstance(s) then you are in effect being judge and jury and claiming that something is a mistake, wrong, an injustice, and/or immoral. Be careful who or what you are blaming because you may be partially or totally to blame for the bad human behavior or bad circumstance and you may not be guilt free.

Ask questions, gather evidence, and consult reputable sources if possible which is better than making too many impulsive judgments, being wrong in your judgment, and having to argue for your wrong biased viewpoint which frequently causes vengeful and hurt feelings in others.

Dead and living humans and their institutions and vices are frequently to blame for the problems in this world but some blame bad luck, bad weather, bad events, bad economy, bad laws, and bad addictions.

If you feel victimized then start by blaming yourself and then proceed to improve yourself and some of the world with it.

7 MISTAKES HUMANS MAKE WHEN CHANGING TO BETTER BEHAVIORS!!!

tumblr_n957nj9K2k1sxsd9vo1_500

It is a mistake to assume that tremendous will power over a long duration will change bad behavior.

You may have all the selfcontrol and determination in the world but if you are going to use will power alone to change to healthier eating habits then you won’t know where to start or put all that will power. You need to do some serious thinking, research, and planning before you can apply any will power to the gradual small steps which you will have to make to start on your road to healthier eating.

It is a mistake to make huge overnight changes instead of gradual steps or changes.

Suddenly overnight buying only organic food and drinks and preparing all the food at home for consumption at work and at home will probably not work because it is too great a shock to your system and you will become very confused about how and when to prepare the food.

It is much smarter to gradually introduce organic snacks into your daily routine and only gradually increase the quantity of the organic food which you add to or replace your regular eating habits with. You enjoy the taste of most of the food which you consume now and chances are it will take a relatively long time to make organic food eating as tasty and desirable in your life.

There is nothing more demotivating than having to eat organic food which sometimes doesn’t taste very good without some sauce or flavoring and forcing yourself to abandon the good tasting overly processed food which you are now probably eating.

It is a mistake to surround yourself with bad role models and an environment which reinforces the bad behaviors which you are trying to change.

If most of the humans which you associate with have unhealthy eating habits and you love to frequent fast food places and supermarkets which don’t have organic produce then the chances of changing to healthy eating habits is rather slim. You must try to surround yourself with external motivators and they are humans who are eating healthy and establishments where healthy food is sold.

It is a mistake to go cold turkey on bad behaviors but better to start some good behaviors which will gradually push out or reduce the time spent on the bad behaviors.

Gradually adding more organic food to your diet will slowly push out the overly processed food which you are eating but that doesn’t mean that you have to totally abandon processed food or can’t have any tasty deserts or no fast food at all.

It is a mistake to think that rationally knowing what to do and where to go will automatically lead to doing those things and going to places to get what you may want or need.

You may have found out which places sell organic food but don’t take the necessary next step in stocking up on some or actually buying some. Old shopping habits and eating habits are hard to change, especially if you find out that it will take a half an hour extra time to travel to an organic food place. You just may be too set in your ways or too lazy to make the extra effort needed to stock up on supplies and prefer eating and shopping at your regular place just 5 or 10 minutes away.

It is a mistake to assume that a new better behavior will be forever.

You may be eating an organic apple as a snack three times a week but this won’t last forever because you will tire of the snack and maybe want to change to an organic banana or pear instead. The beauty is that even good habits can become boring but you can usually replace them with other good habits as the need arises.

It is a mistake to assume that changing behavior is difficult or even impossible.

When you are thirsty then drink. When you are hungry then eat. To make sure that you have something to eat or drink that is healthy for you then consider a tote bag or lunch container filled with good healthy food and drink. Then when you are thirsty or hungry instantly quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger in a healthy way.

CONCLUSION:

An addiction to unhealthy eating can be replaced with an addiction to healthy eating or and addiction to both healthy and unhealthy food which is the compromise most are capable of in this society which is overly biased towards unhealthy triggers enticing us to eat unhealthy in almost every corner of existence.

If you are addicted to gambling, pornography, impulsive shopping, alcohol and drugs then you will have a harder time of replacing those bad addictive habits with new addictive good hobbies and pastimes. It is not impossible once you find out exactly which new hobbies and pastimes would interest you enough to want to commit some time to doing them to some extent for starters.

Of course the smartest thing to do would be to increase your job skills by learning new useful skills and knowledge but unfortunately this will indeed take much selfcontrol and determination since the learning process is not very rewarding for most of us and we would prefer to usually do something else and take the easy way out and do nothing.

THE TRUTH ABOUT MISTAKES

Mistakes-Quote

Mistake: n. doing a frequently unintentional error

Making mistakes on the job is more serious than making sometimes embarrassing mistakes in public or at home. On the job not enough sleep or an inadequate skill set may be the reason for your failure. You can do something about sleep but acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge to do a job well may just require more time if you don’t get fired along the way to self-improvement.

At home forgetting to do something or not fulfilling a promise is a mistake and it is up to you to stop making the mistakes in the future. Angering your spouse is frequently a mistake and you should try to change your behavior if possible to avoid similar future confrontations.

You will make plenty of impulsive mistakes parenting offspring and you should relax and realize that it is not the end of the world and that your offspring will get over your failings sooner or later. Try to be the best role model that you can and let nature take its course for good or bad.

Making mistakes and apologizing for them is a fact of life and when you make those mistakes you should try learning from them and changing your behavior accordingly. Don’t make the same mistakes over and over again if they are your fault.

THE TRUTH ABOUT REGRET

images (5)

Regret: v. to sense a wrong reaction which may be doing something bad and/or wrong and/or not doing a subset(s) which should have been done and wishing one had the power to change the wrong reaction

None of us is perfect so we sometimes regret doing or saying something which offends someone or hurts someone. We also regret not doing something or participating in some event(s) which upon reflection is something we missed out on.

Apologizing is the smart thing to do if you realize that you have made a mistake or said something which has hurt another’s feelings. Sometimes doing something to try and compensate for the hurt can also be done and sometimes only fixing a mistake and correcting it may be enough compensation.

What is done or is said can never be taken back and erased from memory so try to be careful in the first place and stop name calling and doing rude, hurtful, inconsiderate, or ridiculing things to other humans.

Whatever you do stop wallowing in regrets and move forward having learned from past mistakes. You can’t remake history so move forward and make better history.

THE TRUTH ABOUT INCOMPETENCE

Incompetence

Incompetence: n. not having many of the requirements essential to an identified subset(s) and not achieving a goal(s)

We have all been exposed to incompetent humans in politics, in organizations, in professions, and on the job.

Frequently the ones in leadership positions are the least competent because they may have emotional intelligence and can manage other humans to some extent but they frequently don’t have the necessary skill set to make achievable desirable goals and see to it that the right information and qualified humans exist to achieve those goals.

Managerial skills are different than technical skills and a manager trying to lead technically skilled personnel who has little grasp of the logic behind the technology will frequently fail to make good decisions which benefit the organization in the long duration.

Lengthy experience eventually does eliminate incompetence to some extent. That is why employers prefer an experienced worker to an unexperienced one because they know that the probability of an inexperienced worker making more than his or her share of mistakes is rather great and they want to avoid those mistakes as much as possible.

Job mentoring or apprenticeship is not very common in the United States and that is one major reason why new graduates find it hard to get employed straight out of school. The fact that liberal arts is job poor is the major reason why new graduates can’t find work right away.

The sad fact is that the educational system is producing armies of improperly educated incompetent graduates who aren’t prepared for the new technological realities of the 21st century.

THE TRUTH ABOUT INEPTITUDE

ineptitude

Ineptitude: n. competence decreased and/or absent because of negligence and/or mental impairment caused by (absence of sleep and/or use of mind altering drugs) and/or impulsive mistakes

Ineptitude and incompetence mean the same thing in the dictionary so I have redefined ineptitude to mean incompetence under the influence of bad behavior in a normally competent human.

If you are a doctor who removes a spleen instead of a kidney you may try to blame it on an assistant nurse but ultimately you are to blame for your ineptitude which may be caused by your negligence, impulsive mistake, and/or mental impairment from the absence of sleep and/or drug use.

A competent professional may be inept some of the time but not all the time.

THE TRUTH ABOUT ERROR

a3bea140-6e30-4b69-9293-d62c26aad214_980x551

Error: n. deviating from (truth and/or accuracy) and/or rightness and the deviation is the largest when antonyms such as untruth and/or wrong are used to identify these deviation extremes

In humans these errors are frequently caused by (bad and/or wrong judgments) and/or (ignorance and/or carelessness) and/or inattention.

What is the difference between an error and a mistake? A mistake is basically a frequently unintentional error.

A mistake is made by a human and an error is made by a logical thinking human or a robot and is a more objective mistake. Machines can make true errors and humans frequently make subjective mistakes instead of objective ones.

Accuracy is the key and if you make accurate statements based on as many facts as possible then you will frequently not be accused of erring much.

THE TRUTH ABOUT CAUTION

caution_computer

Caution: n. doing something with conscientious forethought trying to  (predict danger and mistakes and/or avoid danger and mistakes) and/or trying to avoid external subset(s) which may change one’s immediate goal(s) and sometimes future goal(s) and/or avoidance of risky behavior(s)

We frequently think of caution in terms of avoiding dangerous behaviors which may lead to injury or death.

Some proceed with caution on the internet fearing identity theft or credit card theft.

Some humans are more cautious and fearful than others and are not impulsively friendly but choose to approach relationships conservatively and with great caution fearing to get hurt or being taken advantage of.

Some business humans are more cautious than others and fear making new decisions about a business out of a fear of change for the worst and lower or no profits.

Impulsive decisions in life are made by many. Those who can stop and conscientiously think of and plan for the future can have a considerable advantage over one who does not collect all the necessary information first. The latter frequently proceeds impulsively to lead life without thinking much about the consequences of their future actions.

Some take big risks in life but there are the smart risk takers and the rather inept ones. Having great knowledge about customers and finance, many useful skills such as human managerial skills, and doing conscientious planning ahead can all make the difference between a successful enterprise and a failed one.

There are many cautious humans impulsively guided by fear from past failures and bad experiences who don’t really learn much from them and their future actions are more inhibited than they should be.

Then there are the cautious humans who learn from their past mistakes and bad experiences and make conscientious plans for the future. The latter frequently have a plan B and plan C in mind if plan A fails.

14 MISTAKES FIRST TIME MOTHERS CAN MAKE WITH THEIR NEWBORN BABIES

newborn-baby-boy-sleeping

Not knowing why a baby is crying which may be because your baby may be hungry, may need a diaper change, may want to sleep, may want to be held, has digestive problems, needs to burp, is too hot or too cold, or is not feeling good.

They assume perfectionist parenting books are always right which frequently use standardized rules for everything based on statistical averages or norms and your newborn may deviate greatly from those norms causing unnecessary panic and fear.

Thinking that parenting advice by first time mothers is always right unless they are experienced mothers with three or more offspring.

Thinking that you will get enough sleep. Chances are great that you will probably need to breast feed in the middle of the night or change a diaper because the baby is crying.

Assuming the worst is happening when the baby has blotchy skin, a rash, a cough, colic, diarrhea, etc. Unless it is a high fever or a skin rash in the diaper area due to not changing the diaper on time, the problem will usually go away given enough time.

Trying to breast feed the newborn on a strict 4 hour schedule instead of waiting for the baby to cry during the day or at night before feeding it. Babies are smarter than your schedule and know when they really need food. Feed on demand if possible if there is no more urgent thing to do.

Exposing them to too many germy humans by going to crowded places with many humans runs the risk of a bacterial or viral infection.

Thinking that babies will stay in one place and not move around.

Thinking that you will have enough time for friends and a normal social life once the baby is born.

Expecting marital relationships to be smooth and blissful after the baby is born because chances are you will be ignoring your husband much more than he would like.

Wasting money by buying too many baby clothes which are not worn very frequently if at all.

Planning to be punctual with a baby accompanying you who will frequently delay you with crying and needed attention.

You don’t bring a baby with a high fever to the doctor.

Placing the baby on its stomach or side and thus risking crib death by suffocation.

WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE OR DO SOMETHING WRONG?

slide_275776_2055497_free

If other humans are involved then you apologize if you have made a mistake or done something wrong. Say  “I’m Sorry” but then follow it up with what you will do about it.

“Now I know what to do”

“It won’t happen again”

“I’ll change that”

“Next time I will do it right”

“I’ll work on it”

“I need time to work it out”

“I need help”

“I don’t know what to do”

If you know how to solve the mistake then say so and if it needs help from someone then ask for it. Finally there are times when there is no solution so don’t be embarrassed to admit that you don’t know what to do or that it will take time to work it out.
