THE TRUTH ABOUT CONGESTION+

Traffic-Congestion

Congestion: n. being at a greater density than the usual norm

Traffic congestion is obvious since there are many more cars on the road and movement is rather slow. Not only is the density greater for traffic congestion but the speed of the cars is also greatly decreased.

Nasal congestion is simply more mucous in the nose or a higher density causing congestion and occasionally there are constricted or narrowed passage ways which make the congestion seem worse.

Congestion also implies that there are normal times during which the density is much less or there is minimal or no congestion at all such as times when traffic is flowing smoothly and mucous is normally being generated and does not clog up the nasal passages.

THE TRUTH ABOUT EXCEPTION*

exceptionLogo3

Exception: n. a subset(s) that does not obey a rule(s) and/or doesn’t correspond to a generalization(s) and/or norm(s) but is frequently erroneously assumed to be obeying the rule(s) and/or corresponding to the generalization(s) and/or norm(s)

Susan had everything that a young lady could want, with the exception of the man she loves. Exceptions don’t obey a rule(s) or don’t correspond to a generalization(s) and/or norm(s).

You can make a general rule or assumption that it doesn’t rain in a desert because it is too hot and there is no water. You would be wrong to assume this absolute because there are exceptions and it rarely does rain in the desert and plants that have remained dormant suddenly spring to life and quickly grow to maturity.

Yes, there are probably parts of the great Sahara desert or the Atacama desert in Chile where it never rains but no one has been watching all the regions for 2000 years and maybe there is no place on earth where it never rains, and even in the remotest region it may rain once in 2000 years.

When it comes to human behavior there are plenty of humans who are exceptions to almost any general norm that you can think of. You may think that no one laughs at their own death but some humans are exceptions and actually do laugh at their own death and some even make jokes about their own death.

THE TRUTH ABOUT STANDARD+

standards_logo-backgroundalpha

Standard: n. a subset(s) considered by an authority or a consensus as a basis of comparison such as (a position on a scale and/or a certain measure) and/or (a principle and/or a model) and/or (a behavioral norm and/or an acceptable deviation) and/or a constant deviation from a subset(s)

Standards are made so that we can judge the excellence or perfection of something.

If you do something trying to be excellent or perfect then the standards will determine whether you have been successful or have come within acceptable limits of performance.

Perfection is frequently the absolute standard which few if any are capable of but it is used to measure human, plant, animal, and robotic performance.

How far from the standard your performance is determines whether it is acceptable or unacceptable and needs improvement.

Test standards are the most common ones which most of us come into contact with when we compare our performance to that of others. Who can run the fastest or throw the furthest is a measure of athletic skill but today mental skill is increasingly more important in determining the success or failure of a human in a technological society.

Reliability, durability, efficiency, ease of repair, ease of use, and beauty are standards used to judge the value of objects such as mechanical and electronic devices.

Beauty and human behavior are very subjective standards and they probably are the only ones which can’t be made into an absolute standard which will meet the test of time unchanged.
