Common ways bad destructive employees affect the workplace:

They lower employee morale, reduce productivity, decrease other employee’s performance, decrease the quality and profit of the business, and are a legal liability.

Types of bad destructive employees and what to do about them:

The overly emotional employee:

Speak to the employee immediately if he or she shouts, slams doors, throws things, argues with others in a loud tone of voice, and uses profanity.

Confront and talk to the overly emotional employee but try to avoid sentences beginning with the word YOU which sounds accusatory and will put the employee immediately on the defensive. Instead start with a question such as what did you shout about, what was the loud argument about, or what was the reason for using a harsh profanity?

Everyone is entitled to one emotional outburst once in a while but if it becomes frequent then suggest weekly private meetings where frustrations can be vented or discussed before another angry explosion occurs in the workplace. Emphasize the importance of keeping a cool head in the workplace because it annoys, shocks, troubles, and interrupts or disrupts other employee morale and performance. You definitely don’t want a repetitive emotional time bomb working for you for very long.

The bullying employee or manager:

Ranting and raving at another in a pushy manner on a regular basis is one way that someone tries to assert power or dominance over others. This attempt at intimidation will anger others and affect or decrease the morale and performance in the workplace.

Some managers use this scare tactic to try to get performance out of others and if it sometimes succeeds workwise it will still decrease the respect and morale of the employee.

A manager who spreads gossip, criticizes too often, yells, name calls, puts down, belittles, humiliates, ridicules, and insults will not be respected very much and morale will suffer. If the manager excludes employees from projects as punishment or takes credit for another’s work then this too will decrease morale.

If the manager is a bully then only higher ups may be able to do something about it. In the case of an employee it is important to get the details of the bullying in a calm and collected fashion from both parties before suggesting ways to radically decrease or hopefully eliminate the bullying.

The repetitive naysayer:

Most naysayers offer advice on why a project won’t work but often don’t offer alternatives and this can lead to team effort grinding to a halt. A pessimistic attitude can affect the whole team and beyond to other departments too.

Confront an employee with repetitive negativity and try to find out if there are personal problems which are possibly affecting his or her decision making process. Make sure to document by being specific and accurate in detail all the negative instances to avoid the possibility of discrimination or harassment suits. Say that an employee has trouble working in group situations rather than stating that someone is a trouble maker and doesn’t get along with teammates.

The social butterfly:

Being very sociable is only bad if deadlines are not met or work is not getting done. Confront the employee and give specific examples of how excessive talking is affecting the work. Try to get the employee to socialize less and perhaps channel this sociability by letting him or her spend time on social events for the office such as planning office parties or leading a welcoming committee for new workers.

In conclusion, being extremely emotional, a bully, a naysayer, and a social butterfly once in a while will cause no great harm to an organization but if the behavior is habitual or very repetitive then detailing the episodes with good documentation and firing the employee is a logical thing to do to avoid poisoning the morale and productivity of the entire workforce.

3 important management mistakes that anger employees:

  1. Engaging in very emotional confrontations.

Fiery arguments are the worst case scenario since cool, calm discussions are preferable by a mile.

If you are conveying bad news to an employee then it is important to start off on a positive note and make sure it is a private one to one meeting and not a session which other employees can hear.

Read the employee body language and pay close attention as you deliver the bad news in a truthful, factual, helpful, inspiring, and kind way. Above all be courageous, factual, calm, and private.

  1. Undervaluing employees or not giving credit where credit is due and not thanking them for their important contributions.

Praise and acknowledgment for work well done is important in any job but in teamwork what is further important is to acknowledge an employee’s impact on business success and trying to mentor them by giving them challenging new tasks on projects, encouraging them to attend workshops and join professional organizations, and help them develop a plan to reach their goals within the organization.

Along the way it is important to try and reward their efforts with special perks such as lunch with the boss where personal issues can be discussed, giving company apparel or nicknacks such as a shirt with a company logo, and extending certain privileges such as VIP parking. Impromptu time off such as showing up late for work or quitting work early can also be good motivating rewards.

Making office space available for peer to peer recognition and kudos with high fiving can also be a motivational reward.

  1. Finally, leaving an employee in isolation from boss and other employees is one of the most unmotivational things that you can do and work performance will suffer as well as the employee morale.

Try to create an open door policy with adequate feedback from an employee where he or she can air grievances or frustrations, make suggestions, report on work progress, ask questions or seek advice, share concerns and work issues, and make contacts with other employees.

An open trusting respectful relationship between boss and employees and between employees themselves is the primary goal which one should strive to achieve in the business.

 

You can probably categorize about 4 styles or personality types for behavior in the workplace and some have combinations of the 4 since no one employee usually fits into one exclusive pigeonhole category.

 

The dominating personality type is fast paced and wants the work to be completed in a timely manner. They generally prefer respect, control, and challenge in the workplace.

 

The influencers are usually extroverted who are fast paced, energetic, like enthusiasm and fun, and like recognition from others.

 

Supportive and almost submissive personality types are good listeners, support others, are slower paced, team oriented, reserved, and basically desire that others be nice to them and others.

 

The conscientious employee is precise, careful, detail oriented and accurate. He or she prefers logical data-based decisions.

 

Of course the ideal personality type is someone who dominates when necessary, is a good influencer of others, is supportive when needed, and is generally conscientious based on the circumstances as they present themselves. You could call that human a jack of all personality styles who adjusts his or her personality to the circumstances or the tasks at hand.

 

The employee handbook should set the rules for proper and inappropriate behavior in the workplace. Subjects covered are code of conduct, communication policy, nondiscrimination policy, compensation and benefits policy, employment and termination policy, and acknowledgement page.

 

Holding regular performance reviews and check ins of employees is important to get valid feedback. Simply asking -How is it going? followed by coaching, encouragement, and relevant feedback.

 

Focus on the employee’s strengths and contributions, keep the review short, have an open discussion on employee goals for the future, create an employee grievance policy where you get the grievance in writing with documentation for the investigation, and generally encourage an open door policy so an employee is not shy about complaining appropriately if he or she sees something is not as it should be.

 

The above procedures validate the fact that you are interested in the employee staff and not just in their work.

 

A positive optimistic company culture can avoid employee negativity with unsatisfied employees, low productivity, high turnover rates, and less profit.

 

A motivating company culture can flourish if there is- honesty which encourages trust within workplace relationships, if employees know the purpose or goals of the organization and how each contributes to their advancement, and regular feedback which is motivating and offers recognition of work well done.

 

In conclusion, occasional negativity can be tolerated if it is immediately addressed and dealt with. However, habitual or repetitive negativity will definitely harm an organization and the morale of the employees so if no solution can be found to stop the negativity, documentation of each event is essential and eventual firing of the offending employee is a must.

Very rich humans tend to be hoarders of money and even though they invest most of it it is not usually heavily invested in tangible assets which help to create jobs for poor humans or the middle class. The problem with the economy is that when hoarding continues, inflation continues, and great personal debt takes also takes more money out of the economy there is not enough money in circulation since the average working human has less to spend than before.

The result is deflation where prices fall and jobs are lost and there is even less money being spent. Deflation originates in inflation of the money supply which makes prices higher and humans less able to afford products produced. In effect they have less money to spend each year and this causes deflationary pressures. This causes a fall in prices from oversupply of products and less profit.

To avoid this kind of deflationary pressure the government artificially pumps counterfeit money into the economy trying to stem this natural economic deflationary consequence thus going into ever greater debt. Because the economy is not given time to correct itself with deflation an unnatural economic bubble is created of false value and not only is there inflation or decrease in the value of currency on the world market which causes higher prices in foreign goods but financial insolvency or bankruptcy threatens at some point in the future.

Trying to avoid a great depression by pumping money into circulation this just makes the possibility of an even greater depression in the near future. In the meantime the concentration of money power in the hands of fewer and fewer humans continues and it becomes even more pronounced during any major depression.

The system is rigged in favor of big money and big banks which keeps getting bigger all the time and there is in the end less money for the middle class whose jobs are also being decimated by technology or computer software. The only ones who benefit in the end are government workers, the highly skilled, the very rich, and those on welfare with guaranteed annual income called entitlements.

Pretty soon there will be a wealthy elite at the top, a highly skilled small working elite middle class, and the rest will be on welfare. I anticipate all this radical change and have devised a just system to replace the old corrupt one. Inflation encourages short term investment and wild speculation in the stock market and does not really encourage good long term investment and speculation. Liquidity crises and counterfeit money pumping is symptomatic of the theoretical “growth” mentality which is not healthy for an economy in the long duration. Short term profits are encouraged and ultimately a sick economy and looming bankruptcy is the result.

Humans like to share their emotions, information, some products, and some services. The internet is potentially the best source for freely sharing information but unfortunately what is being shared is digitalized artwork, pictures, music, movies and other video products which is creative work that contributing humans would like to get paid for and maybe make a little profit.

How do you make a profit if what you create is sold only once and potentially shared by the world? Why tax or charge for every sharing transaction of a bought piece of information worldwide!

What this means is that you can recommend or share for free via a sample digital snippet of music, movie, or article but if you want the complete work or information or product then you have to order or pay for it from the individual provider. Yes, the provider or seller may be a monopoly distributor but this permits them to censor your intellectual property and keep it at the bottom of the barrel and put no effort towards advertising it to the public.

Whoever was interested in your complete personal product would have to buy only from you directly and this would ensure that you would justly be paid for the mass appeal that your information or product would have.

In effect every creative person would have a cash register in their home and would charge the going price to whomever was interested and knocked on their doorstep. Yes, mass advertisers or distributors could still work out business deals with you promoting your creative efforts for a percentage of your profits but you would be guaranteed that you know exactly how much you sold and the advertiser, promoter, or distributor would not be able to scam you secretly and steal from you.

Effectively your website or cellphone would have a SHARED compartment and a BOUGHT compartment which you could not share with anyone but yourself or only on your personal device. Your personal device could be shared physically with family members and friends with physical access to your personal device.

That physical personal device could potentially be used by thousands of humans whom you decided to share with but that would take a considerable amount of time and it would not be instant access to the world via the internet!

This system would require considerable cooperation worldwide and require massive hardware and software changes but it is potentially doable and it is about the only just internet system which can be devised by humans.

This would also ensure some degree of privacy and you would not have to share your purchases with the world.

Profit: n. money remaining when expenses are subtracted from income

Profiting encourages efficiency but it puts emphasis on quantity of money and not on the qualitative use of money.

The biodiversity and quality of our food supply has been ruined by pursuing profit with factory farming, monoculture agriculture, overly processed foods with artificial additives, and trying to monopolize the food with patented unhealthy GMO’s.

In the short duration agriculture is making a good profit but in the long duration the emphasis on profit and not the quality and diversity of the food is creating a very unhealthy food supply.

Making a profit on invested money in the short duration is corrupting the money management with risky investments in the form of derivatives and manipulation of the stock market prices which are not based on fundamentals but on pure gambling speculation. Big money is gambling or radically speculating with money with government guarantees and the public is paying for speculative failures with incredible budget deficits in the trillions of dollars.

Pure capitalism with an emphasis on making as much money as possible in the shortest amount of time is being applied to growing food and managing money. This shortsighted profit motive is resulting in unhealthy food and a threatening financial collapse in the long duration.

Manufacturing products in the cheapest way possible and not sustainably is also generating more pollution than necessary. China is a perfect example of excessive pollution of the environment due to an over emphasis on short duration profit over the health of the environment.

The Chinese economic miracle is paying a high price by polluting the environment for future generations who will have to live with the pollution and their long duration health will suffer.

The service industries are the one area where profit is essential because if you remove the profit incentive and competition then the workforce will become terribly inefficient and not give the most work output for the dollars invested.

Businesses with unions are less profitable than businesses without them and negotiated overly generous pension plans are bankrupting the businesses and organizations which have to pay for them. Government inefficiency is legend and a perfect example of what can happen when profit does not play an important role in keeping the organization efficient.

Producing goods in great quantity with the profit motive is resulting in a sacrifice of quality where it really counts, quality food. Making more money with big money not tied to tangible assets is resulting in a corrupt financial management system which is threatened by bankruptcy in the long duration.

Planning for the future with a secure money supply where the value of money remains constant and encourages long duration planning and savings for emergencies and retirement is essential for a just economy. Remove an incentive to save some money for the future or a rainy day and individual finances, corporate finances, and national finances become dysfunctional and teeter on the verge of bankruptcy. The use of money or the financial system must be disciplined so that it encourages long duration planning and not just short duration planning.

Too much emphasis on short duration money profits is resulting in a world or money not tied to reality and if reality is denied then disaster is just around the corner.

The greatest danger is the destruction of wilderness or biodiversity which is the only safety net for civilization when the domestic food supply becomes too unhealthy to consume.

If you are unhappy, unhealthy, and with no friends then it is time for change and that means it is time to think differently and behave or do things differently or change your lifestyle so that you can benefit more from it.

Most good health comes from eating and drinking healthy and getting in moderate exercise. With this basic good organic natural foundation you can proceed to gather useful new information from reputable humans which will improve your personality, social skills, job skills, and teach you how to set small good goals in your life which you can achieve and start replacing the bad habits which you are trapped in.

You need help with your life but it ultimately must start with self-help and that means making an effort to connect with humans with useful knowledge which will help your predicament. Use the internet and search engines to find answers to your questions or solutions to your problems once you begin to identify them successfully.

Not all of us are unhappy, unhealthy, and without friends so pick one or more categories which you would like to improve from the list of 10 at the top and go for it with confidence, determination, selfcontrol, much research, and much new doing or activities. You will be benefiting yourself and other important humans around you and ultimately that is what life is all about!!!
