THE TRUTH ABOUT HIGH*

hqdefault

High: adj. (a relatively large vertical displacement from the earth and/or a relatively large vertical displacement from a mathematical plane parallel to the earth) and/or (a relatively large displacement from a subset(s) in the universe and/or a vertical ascent in hierarchy) and/or (a large displacement in degree and/or a large quantity)

High is one of my few definitions which have multiple meanings because it is so commonly used in everyday life that it may be hard to extinguish its multiple meaning usage. There are high buildings, high ranks, high temperatures, high frequencies, high speed, high pulses, high blood pressure, high profits, high opinions, heightened emotions, high energy, highly respected things, and being high on drugs and high on life.

My recommendation is to replace the word high with large in all situations which do not refer to vertical distance measurements from a reference point. Thus it would be high buildings and high chairs but large rank, large temperature, large frequency, large speed, large emotion, large on drugs, etc.

THE TRUTH ABOUT PEER+

pg_logo_square

Peer: n. a human(s) of (approximately the same age and/or rank) and/or ability as a different identified human(s)

Similar age and/or profession generally indicate a peer group. It is possible for some very young humans to be included in older human peer groups if they have shown precocious ability in some field of expertise.

Age classification makes for very generalized peer groups with differing abilities and the most important peer groups are the ones of humans demonstrating similar abilities such as in sports and in the professions or trades.

Peer pressure  or pressure to conform exists not only in school but also outside of school where the peer group has a tendency to censor ideas and behavior which does not maintain peer group values.

THE TRUTH ABOUT PROMOTION+

promotion

Promotion: n. motivating and helping a subset(s) to grow in importance frequently by increasing (rank and/or privilege) and/or wealth

Getting promoted means that you have become more important and that is reflected in an increase in rank, the acquisition of a privilege, or an increase in salary or commission.

In school grade promotion is a bad example of being promoted for achieving a minimum standard of learning skill even though the reality is often that you are being promoted merely because you have had another birthday and are older by a year.

Unless you have achieved a top rank not being promoted for a very long time frequently means that you have ceased to grow in your job and are stagnating or doing the same basic thing year in and year out. Not everyone craves promotions because with a promotion frequently comes more responsibility and more stress which some humans just want to avoid.

Product promotions or ad campaigns are designed to increase product importance in the market place.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SUBORDINATE+

subordinate-thumb

Subordinate: v. to make lesser in importance and/or rank

When you subordinate something or someone then you are effectively stating that the thing or human is of lesser importance and/or rank than something else or another human.

Subordination is the process of setting priorities in the real world and placing more value on somethings than others and helps in ordering ideas or concepts and the environment in which you live.

THE TRUTH ABOUT PROMOTION+

How_to_ask_for_a_job_promotion-300x300

Promotion: n. motivating and helping a subset(s) to grow in importance frequently by increasing rank and/or privilege

Advertising of information, goods, and services can be thought of as being a promotion but the most common usage is when you are promoted to a better or more responsible position in an organization or job.

Human promotion frequently corresponds to an increase in status or rank and it is usually highly desirable by humans who want to be higher on the social pecking order.

Not everyone has a desire to be promoted and have a responsibility over more and more humans. Some employees don’t care if they are never promoted in their jobs to positions of management and this is perfectly acceptable because not everyone wants to manage other humans and be responsible for their behavior.

In school promotion from one grade to the next exists and most humans desire to be promoted that way but for some humans being promoted in life is not something they all desire. There are plenty of humans who just want to put in a good days work and don’t desire in the least to be leaders or managers of other humans who are often difficult to manage in this modern era of many disobedient, irresponsible, and somewhat selfish personalities.

Some businesses have poorly paid lower management positions where you theoretically have higher status but have to suffer through commuting to far away time consuming boring management conferences and making less money than the humans whom you manage. Promotion in these businesses is actually a sacrifice of your time, money, and energy and very few wish to be promoted in this way.

THE TRUTH ABOUT STATUS+

StatusLogo

Status: n. rank and relative position within that rank and the degree of influence on others

You can have the rank of actor but there is a big difference in a popular celebrity actor and one who is barely making a living at it and is forced to take on other menial jobs to survive financially. You can be a high status actor or a low status actor within your actor rank or classification.

When you have high status then you can surround yourself with high status friends and material possessions commonly found among successful humans. You can also have high status, not too many high status friends, and live a relatively humble or moderate existence with an average car and house and nothing outstanding. Most humans function somewhere in between those two extremes of flaunting your status or not flaunting it at all.

There are also status conscious humans who have low status but think that it is appropriate to surround themselves with the better things in life and frequently go into great debt trying to live up to those unrealistic high status standards.

The term status symbol is frequently associated with something very expensive or exclusive. Awards for achievement and membership in exclusive clubs are frequently highly valued by status conscious humans. If you stand out from the crowd in some special way then you have greater status than someone who does not stand out from the crowd.

In society reputation and integrity are very important and frequently those with an excellent reputation and integrity are the ones which also have the highest status even though much money sometimes is a leading indicator of status within societies.

Humans are frequently confronted with the dilemma of making much money deceptively in the short run or making a reasonable amount of money without severely exploiting others. Businesses are constantly confronted with the moral dilemma of putting the most emphasis on the bottom line or short term profit or satisfying a customer base in the long duration and making a modest short term profit.

Brand loyalty is much coveted by businesses and it is a status symbol in the business world which frequently stands for the good reputation of a highly desirable useful product or service.

Wanting power, pride, and wanting to be better than others are the motivating factors which promote the quest for status. Greater status is frequently conferred upon what could be considered the dominant humans in society who frequently serve in rather prestigious leadership positions within that society.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SUPERIORITY***

images (1)

Superiority: n. sensing excessive competence and/or dominance in a subset(s)

As offspring we want to be stronger, smarter, more skilled, and more attractive than other offspring and want to be loved or valued more by older offspring and authority figures such as parents.

In effect we sometimes desperately want to be better or superior to others. This desire for dominance leads to stereotyping and group thinking later in life and is the source of much prejudice, bias, and superior group thinking.

Wanting to be better leads to feelings of superiority when you are better and it is an inescapable fact of human existence which must be combated in its extreme forms. Those who are not superior frequently try to make up for it with material possessions or status symbols which make them feel more important than they really are in society.

The truly superior in society are frequently the honest, sincere, dependable, competent, friendly, trustworthy, moral, and modest who do not flaunt their wealth if they have any and do not brag about their superior status in society.

If you have integrity or are honest and moral then you are truly superior and it will be reflected in good relationships with other humans. Some without integrity may prosper financially in the short duration but their human relationships will be handicapped or frequently very bad.

THE TRUTH ABOUT UNIMPORTANCE***

slide_355796_3908056_free

Unimportance: n. minimum or no attention and/or resources given to a subset(s) frequently because samer subset(s) is judged subjectively to have (minimal value and/or minimal rank) and/or minimum power to affect a circumstance(s)

What is important and unimportant? This is largely a subjective question and what is important in your life may not be that important in other lives. We all have our own personal priorities of what is important and unimportant in our lives and donate our attention and resources to things which we consider important to us.

The rich and powerful may not consider the trivial things in your life to be that important but to you they may be things vital to your relationships and financial survival. Microbes may not be important in your life until you come down with a microbe illness. Politics, economics, and education may not be of great concern to you because you may feel that you have so little control over them.

Many of us waste much time, effort, and money on relatively trivial and unimportant things which have become bad habits if viewed objectively. One of the primary reasons for success is that you have learned to exclude or avoid the unimportant things in your life and have learned to concentrate on the truly important things in your life which includes the pursuit of old and new useful goals.

As you live circumstances change and you age so priorities change along with your aging. What was unimportant as an offspring suddenly becomes important as an adult. Retirement is also frequently a time of great change and readjusting of your priorities in life and correspondingly what you consider unimportant and important.

If something is unimportant then you probably don’t pay any attention to it and you definitely do not devote your time, energy, and money on it. What is unimportant is relative to each human and what one feels is very important may not be important to someone else.

A farmer may feel that the weather is very important whereas a city dweller in the southern belt of the USA may not be in the least concerned whether it rains or shines from one day to the next.

For many women shopping for clothes is important but for many men it is frankly a big pain in the butt and can get very expensive if you buy too many clothes which you don’t wear on a daily basis.

To some sports are important but to others they just think it is a big waste of time and unimportant watching grown men and women play with balls which are only different in weight, size, material, and shape from one sport to the next.

THE TRUTH ABOUT IMPORTANCE

????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Importance: n. frequently subjectively judged being (valuable and/or dominant) and/or (large ranking and/or powerfully affecting a subset(s))

There are things which we feel or sense are important and there are things which are important which we don’t recognize have importance in our lives.

There are important humans, events, and objects in our lives. Knowing what is important depends to a large degree on our ability to set priorities in our lives and devote more attention to the important ones.

Food, clothing, shelter, transportation, education, job, relationships, family, and entertainment frequently have the most importance in our lives. How much time, energy, and money we spend on important priorities frequently determines how important they are in our lives.

When crises or emergencies arise then those are frequently things which we feel are most important and we readily devote much time, energy, effort, and money trying to deal with them successfully. Once the crises or emergencies are dealt with successfully we then go back to our daily habitual routines and live life accordingly. Sometimes the crises or emergencies are so severe that we may actually change our priorities and live life differently than in the past.

Going through different stages of life also determines what is most important. As offspring education is very important, as adults work and relationships become important, and in retirement learning what to do with all the free time becomes an important consideration along with deteriorating health in some circumstances.

If you are unhappy living life or have many problems then chances are you have to rearrange your priorities and spend more time, energy, and frequently money with the new important ones. Set new goals in life which can be realistically achieved and make them more important in your life and chances are that you will live a more optimistic and happy life and will start feeling a sense of achievement or accomplishment.

Addictive bad behaviors can have a powerful influence on our lives and squeeze out more important good priorities or behaviors. Not recognizing that some pursuits in life are rather trivial and unimportant leads many to lead stagnating lives with seemingly little progress.

Humans in control of much money are the most important in society because they can change society for better or worse. Bank, corporate, and organizational leaders have the most power although politicians also are important in running the world. Most human organizations have an hierarchical structure with those at the top being the most influential or important and that especially is true of the military establishment.

Power or control over energy and humans is what is important in this world but science and technology is impacting the world in a major way and is having both good and bad impacts on human life and biodiversity.

Morality and laws are also important and the more moral a law the more just it is. Basic human morality is being decimated and the result is more irresponsible human behavior which results in unjust special interest laws which benefit the wealthy and poor at the expense of the middle class which is greatly decreasing in numbers.

Important sound economic values of thrift, saving, and responsible financial living are not being promoted in society and more and more are living irresponsibly resulting in many personal bankruptcies which are reflected in almost bankrupt national and international economies. A moral distribution of wealth is failing in society and with it the financial health of the world is also beginning to fail.

Morality is the most important in society but the second most important institution is education which is failing miserably teaching a historically important liberal arts curriculum in the 21st technological century.

Morality, education, economics, politics, science, technology, and society are important. Unfortunately most of us are not in a position to change any of these fields for the better but we can at least try to live morally and get a job which will not become obsolete in the not too distant future.
