Taste: v. to sense chemical actions in the mouth which are frequently good
We all want our food and drink to taste good and when we come across what we like we say that it is tasty implying that it tastes good to us personally.
Taste can also be conditioned with constant exposure and something which may not taste all that good to begin with may wind up being something which we consume during our lives. Liking very spicy, very sweet, very sour, and very bitter food and drink is unacceptable to most young offspring but a culture can condition its humans to like some extreme tastes with constant exposure. Our tastes adapt to real life circumstances and what adults learn to like taste wise may not be what young offspring naturally prefer.
I personally feel that taste tests should be given to young offspring who have not yet been brainwashed taste wise and know instinctively what tastes good and what doesn’t. Yes, there are individual preferences in all offspring and even adults when it comes to taste and some even have allergies to some foods and don’t eat them for that reason alone.
Tastes evolve from generation to generation and traditional preservation of food for the winter gave rise to taste preferences that were not very healthy for the body by modern standards. Too much salt, nitrates, vinegar, sugar, and other preservatives in canned and glass jar goods historically was what was wrong with food.
Today there is a growing emphasis on fresh or frozen produce free of preservatives which are really unnatural additives to food and should not be there in the first place.
A growing preference for organic food which is minimally processed is an encouraging healthy trend and I hope that it continues to grow in popularity because overly processed overly sweetened food is not healthy for the body in the long duration because it is nutrient poor and lopsided in nutrient balance.
