Modicum: n. a relatively small quantity of a subset(s) and frequently a greatly valued and/or desirable samer subset(s)
You can have a modicum of truth or gold because they are considered valuable and/or desirable. The reason for the failure of a relationship may be a modicum of honesty, love, or caring which are three very important characteristics of close successful relationships and should exist in abundance and not just in small amounts.
A modicum of falsehood, sand, jealousy, or contempt is inaccurate use of modicum because neither of the four are greatly valued and/or desirable.
