Extract: v. to remove frequently with relatively great force
Teeth are extracted from the mouth and coal is extracted from the earth. In both cases considerable relative force is needed to do the job. Coal is removed with much greater force than are teeth but compared to most dental procedures pulling teeth needs much more force so relative great force applies.
There is chemical extraction too which sometimes doesn’t require much total energy but breaking strong chemical bonds can be viewed as using much relative force on the atomic level.
