Forethought: n. planning for an action(s) before that action(s) exists at some point in the future and/or (planning for the future and/or trying to predict the future and planning correspondingly)
When you are making plans for the future and/or trying to predict the future then you are using forethought.
The thinking process also includes your past experiences with the world because much forward thinking uses past experiences to predict successful future outcomes and events in general. Thinking about the future is really realistically thinking about the past, present, and future because future actions are very dependent on past experiences and present circumstances.
Most human behavior is rather impulsive in nature and not too many take time to think about something intensely or are skilled in using forethought.
