Test: v. to determine the existence of a subset(s)
Most of us are familiar with written tests or questionnaires which find out how much knowledge we have stored in memory and can retrieve so the test determines the existence of retrievable knowledge in our minds. Other tests are physical tests to determine our coordination, strength, and physical skills.
In the lab analytical tests are used to determine the existence of chemical elements and compounds.
Diagnostic computer tests are used to determine whether something or someone needs (repair or treatment) or will possibly need repair or treatment in the future.
When we ask questions we are in effect really making little test questions to determine what a human thinks, can do, has done, or will do in the future.
