THE TRUTH ABOUT WORRY*

the-worry-chart-495x342

Worry: v. to be excessively (concerned and anxious and uncertain) and wasting thinking time with a (real and/or imagined) (future and/or present) (danger(s) and/or event(s)) and/or subset(s)

Some worry is a natural human reaction to potential dangers and/or events and concern, anxiety, and uncertainty about the future is normal.

When worry is excessive then you are wasting much time thinking about horrible things which may happen and in most cases the worrying is really a waste of time since you often can’t change what the future will bring by just thinking about it. Also the horrible thoughts often don’t come close to future reality which is much more benign in most cases.

If the worry leads to or motivates preventative thoughts and actions to avoid future problems then the worrying has not been useless or wasted time.

THE TRUTH ABOUT COMPLICATE+

thor-heyerdahl-explorer-progress-is-mans-ability-to-complicate

Complicate: v. to add complexity and/or uncertainty and frequently making a subset(s) more difficult

You can complicate things by adding complexity and/or by introducing much uncertainty and making something difficult to understand and predict. You can also complicate things with randomness, verbosity, and inefficient communication but these are just other ways of introducing complexity and uncertainty into something.

THE TRUTH ABOUT HESITATION*

19247406-368-kcff16a

Hesitation: n. delaying one’s reaction(s) and/or communication(s) frequently due (to uncertainty and/or to unwillingness) and/or to fear

Why do we sometimes hesitate? Usually it is something we are afraid to say or do again or for the first time and sometimes it is something we have never done before and we are uncertain of the outcome.

When there is urgency or when we are doing our good and/or bad habits impulsively then hesitation is not a frequent occurrence but when there is something new, dangerous, risky, strange, unusual, or potentially embarrassing and we are not in a hurry then we often hesitate and sometimes think a little or get up enough courage before doing something.

THE TRUTH ABOUT POSSIBLE+

possible-logo

Possible: adj. having the ability to do a subset(s) and/or having potential for existence but uncertainty about it being done and/or existing

Just because something is possible does not mean that it will be done or that it will happen.

It may be possible for you to go on a vacation cruise but you decide to go to the beach instead. Dark clouds usually mean that it is possible that it will rain but it may not rain.

Possible means that it could happen but there is some uncertainty that maybe it will not happen.

THE TRUTH ABOUT UNCERTAINTY***

uncertainty-just-ahead-green-road-sign-with-dramatic-storm-clouds-and-sky

Uncertainty:  n. believing that a future and/or past subset(s) has less than a 100% probability of existing which may not be zero probability or absolute certainty and/or not believing that one is completely right about a subset(s)

We are frequently uncertain whether something is true or whether something existed in the past or will exist in the future. What is seldom asked is what is the probability of the uncertainty?

If it is a scientific fact then we can frequently say that the uncertainty is zero percent but if it is a political or economic prediction then the uncertainty may be less than 50% or only slightly better than flipping a coin. Politics and economics is a statistical evaluation with rather large margins of error in many cases and many crises situations are not very predictable at all with great uncertainty.

To help us with uncertainty we frequently consult reputable sources of information or try to get our information from humans whom we consider experts, reliable, or trustworthy. We are frequently less convinced of the information given by a stranger than a trusted friend and prestigious publications are preferred over other less known sources. Even prestigious publications and authority figures are sometimes wrong about their views or communications so there is really seldom 100% certainty in most things with the possible exception of scientific facts and observations such as the certainty that the sun rises and sets every day.

Many cling to old and sometimes unpleasant habits because they are frequently more certain than trying to change and being confronted with an uncertain future. Humans are resistant to change and that includes their beliefs and opinions which provide them with certainty and they are frequently reluctant to change because they fundamentally fear the uncertainty of change to their value system and beliefs about prior experiences.

Humans frequently try to impose certainty on things which are fundamentally uncertain such as gambling where winning a few times is assumed to be a winning streak even when it objectively is pure luck and the odds are really against the gambler in the long duration.

Call it a fear of uncertainty or a desire for certainty. They both can lead to purposeful behavior designed to achieve a goal(s). Many new goals have some uncertainty but unless you try to achieve them with purposeful effort the probability of achieving them is zero if you don’t try at all.

Uncertainty and doubt are frequently one and the same thing. There is never 100% certainty or a guarantee that something will exist or is true when it needs to be or preferably for a long duration.

A right or wrong answer on a test is perhaps one of the main areas of life where there seems to be some certainty without doubt.

Perhaps the biggest uncertainty is the lifestyle which we are living because the only certainty is that it will change as the years go by and this creates uncertainty in our lives which some humans worry too much about.

THE TRUTH ABOUT ATTEMPTS***

attempt-thumb

Attempt: v. to try with a relatively low probability of achievement

Attempting is not only trying but trying something which has a relatively low probability of success or trying something with much uncertainty involved. An attempt frequently results in failure but we are tempted by the possibility that success will mean a very beneficial outcome for us. Many attempts are half-hearted or with little commitment and we frequently invest very little of our time, energy, and money because of our sense of uncertainty.

I attempted windsurfing in high winds and rather quickly gave up realizing that I was just not strong enough and coordinated enough to do it successfully. I could have tried with a smaller sail but that meant more investment of time, energy, and money which wasn’t something which I wanted to do on vacation in Hawaii.

THE TRUTH ABOUT RELUCTANCE

Reluctant-Groom-Cake-Topper_11283-l

Reluctance: n. unwillingness to do a subset(s) opposite to your custom frequently because of (immorality and/or dislike) and/or (hatred and/or fear) and/or (habit and/or uncertainty)

Sometimes we are reluctant or don’t want to do something because we have never done it, because it is immoral, because we dislike doing it, because we hate it, because we fear it, or because we are uncertain of the outcome.

Your impulsive inner voice is frequently reluctance and you may have even become reluctant because you carefully thought something through and decided it was not in your best interest to do or say it.

Because of our big egos we are sometimes even reluctant to apologize for our mistakes or hurtful remarks and this is frequently misguided reluctance which decreases respect for us.

Frequently we are reluctant to change our bad habits because we enjoy them so much no matter how critical others seem to be about the bad habits. This kind of reluctance should be overcome with self-determination as soon as possible because staying with very bad habits will just hurt you in the long duration.

Reluctance frequently changes into procrastination and something which ought to be done never gets done because you keep putting it off forever.

THE TRUTH ABOUT HOPE***

download

Hope: v. to desire a goal(s) and/or an event(s) which frequently doesn’t have a great probability of existence in the future

We frequently look forward with anticipation to an event(s) which will exist in the future and we feel there is almost certainty that it will exist or happen. When there is some or much doubt about a future event(s) existing we actually are hoping that it will exist.

“Hope you have a nice day” and “I hope everything will go well” is a realization that there is not total certainty in the outcome.

The same truth applies to setting and achieving a goal(s). If we are not very certain that we can achieve a goal(s) then we frequently begin to hope that we will achieve but will not be too shocked if we don’t.

THE TRUTH ABOUT RUMORS

rumors_12x12_poster-r434b02e456c74bf6aef7f1da14c95ca5_wvk_8byvr_512

Rumor: v. to currently circulate information of uncertain and/or doubtful truth

Some rumors are outright lies designed to hurt someone’s reputation. If you start an untrue rumor then chances are great that it will come back to bite you sooner or later and your own reputation will be tarnished when someone finds out who the source of the untrue rumor really is.

Spreading rumors which are untrue or highly doubtful is malicious gossip and you should try and avoid becoming part of an unjust rumor mill. To determine whether a rumor is untrue check the source. If it is someone with a reputation for spreading untrue rumors then don’t accept it as the truth and definitely don’t spread it further or you too will be blamed for spreading lies.

If the source of the rumor is someone whom you trust then you have the choice of spreading it further or keeping the juicy information to yourself. If the rumor is something bad about a human whose respect you want then the best thing to do is just to keep it to yourself and save it for the future in case you need ammunition to fight back if you are victimized by some injustice.

THE TRUTH ABOUT CONFUSION

confusion

Confusion: n. caused meaninglessness and/or inability to judge by (large complexity and/or vagueness) and/or (misleading and/or knowledgelessness) and/or (uncertainty and/or newness) and/or irrationality

Frequently we are confused or don’t understand what to do or can’t make a judgment because it is a new situation which we have never dealt with before and don’t feel certain what to do under the circumstances.

We can be confused because a situation is so complex that we don’t understand it and don’t know what to do.

Confusion also exists if we have no knowledge in a field and can’t make a right decision about a situation.

Confusion can exist if something is irrational and doesn’t make logical sense.

Confusion can exist if instructions are too vague and we can’t follow them to a logical conclusion.

Confusion can also result from misleading information with contradictory statements or irrational instructions.

Finally confusion can exist if there is too much uncertainty and we fear making any decision to take action.

THE TRUTH ABOUT ANXIETY

anxiety

Anxiety: n. a low to medium intensity fear resulting from the anticipation of a (realistic and/or fantasized dangerous event(s)) and/or (threatening event(s) and/or bad circumstance(s)) which may be accompanied by the uncertainty of not knowing (what to do and/or what will exist) good and/or bad

Anxiety is not very intense fear so it is not paranoia.

You may be anxious because you are not certain that something good or bad will exist in the future and this uncertainty or doubt can be a slightly fearful feeling especially if it is something bad which may exist. If it is a good possibility the slight fear or anxiety is because you fear it may disappear or go away or not exist the way that you hope it will.

Most anxiety originates from the anticipation of a dangerous or threatening event in the future which may be real or fantasized mentally.

If the anticipation is just an impulsive expression of low or medium intensity fear in the mind originating from stored unconscious fearful past experiences then your mind has no logical control over the feelings. You will probably need much reassurance by others that you should try to eliminate the fear with constant denial.

Unfortunately willing impulsive anxiety to disappear is frequently not possible and psychologists frequently prescribe drugs to lessen the intensity of the anxiety but it never cures the impulsive feeling which does not go away if it is irrational and not based on real fearful things. The irrational impulsive fears are the result of historical bad experiences stored in sub conscious memory. Unfortunately you can change the past but you can create new good experiences which may reduce the intensity of those bad historical sub conscious memories.

Anxiety disorders are not mental illnesses with chemical imbalances in the brain but merely impulsive low and/or medium intensity fears which we have which may or may not be grounded on facts.

Using drugs leads to real chemical imbalances in the brain with disastrous side effects which are worse when you try to withdraw from the drug. Anxieties are just a fact of life of daily existence and some humans have more anxieties than others which may slightly interfere with their ability to successfully lead their daily lives but it is not an excuse for medication use!

The only cure for anxieties is reconditioning the brain by placing the human in an environment free of anxieties or with minimum anxieties or with circumstances which don’t lead to anxieties and KEEP THEM THERE for an extended period of time. Yes this is radical behavior modification and it costs much money and time to do so but it is the only hope for a cure that the patient with many anxiety problems has. Psychiatric drugs don’t cure anxieties but merely mask the symptoms which resurface sooner or later if the patient remains in the anxiety causing environment!!!!!!

Not many have the luxury of moving to a relatively anxiety free environment so most of us just have to grit our teeth and live as best that we can with reassurances from humans who care about us that most anxieties will change with time or even go away given enough time with many new anxiety free experiences in life.

Anxiety disorder is merely a deceptive way of saying that you are not meeting acceptable social norms of behavior but the answer should not be -take drugs!!!!!

All very intense anxieties are phobias if they are predictable and exist frequently and not anxiety disorders as the psychiatric profession wrongly claims. Anxieties are usually low to medium intensity normal human fear behaviors and not to be treated with psychiatric artificial drugs.

When impulsive very intense fears exist too frequently or are compulsive and when they are too intense and above the norm and interfere with normal living causing too great a disruption in daily behavior then the anxieties are considered to be disorders by the psychiatric profession and subject to medication with the use of powerful artificial sedatives.

These artificial sedatives have bad side effects and going off them can create more intense fears than before medication because they change the normal chemical balance of the brain. Rather than curing a fictional chemical imbalance the drugs create an real chemical imbalance in the brain which then requires further treatment of the side effects with more medication or drugs.

All extreme predictable and frequent anxieties are phobias and they should be treated with radical behavior modification which unfortunately takes too long and costs too much money and is unfortunately not a realistic alternative for most humans.

A panic attack or panic disorder is when there is a sudden and frequent very intense fear which is frequently associated with physiological changes such as sweating, chest pain, very intense or irregular palpitations, and choking sensations.  Because of the suddenness of the very intense fear many times neither the psychiatrist nor the patient is aware of the triggering mechanism in the environment and make the wrong assumption that the fear has no cause which can be eliminated from the patient’s life or that the patient should in fact be desensitized to the stimulus through radical behavior modification which takes much time and money to cure.

A social phobia is a very intense fear of being judged by others, fear of embarrassment or ridicule and is a reason why some humans choose to live relatively reclusive lives because they have an intense fear of other humans and their potential disapproval reactions. Once again radical behavior modification which takes much time and money is the cure and quick fix strong artificial sedatives frequently make the situation only worse in the long duration.

Going through a very intense fearful event such as the unexpected death of a loved one, a natural devastating disaster, or a physical or sexual assault may leave one with frightening thoughts and memories of the fearful event(s) which may surface very frequently and reduce normal functioning. Some of these very fearful events can almost kill a mental motivation to live and function normally. Psychiatric artificial drugs are not the cure but part of the problem. Creating hope in the patient that they can work and return to normal if they try and human caring and empathy are the cure.

General anxiety disorder is worry and fear when no external stimulus seems to provoke the bad response but there is a triggering mechanism and that is numerous spontaneous memories of very intense fears that can’t be consciously identified one by one. The very intense fear or worry is the impulsive actions  or recall of the brain without conscious associations with the actual very intense fearful events or memories.

The remaining phobias are very intense fears of things which can be identified and which can be cured by gradual exposure techniques which take much time and money. Most can’t afford the cure so they are disastrously medicated with powerful psychiatric artificial sedatives instead.

Finally uncertainty can cause worry and fear that a goal will not be achieved but there is frequently no phobia of uncertainty and there should be!!!!!!

THE TRUTH ABOUT DOUBT

images (1)

Humans with a record of outstanding achievement in life tend to be more confident, courageous, and optimistic. Humans with much failure in life tend to be timid, fearful, pessimistic, and doubting or uncertain about life.

The more skills and useful knowledge which you have the more confident you are and generally don’t doubt your ability to do things and make things happen which will benefit you. Those with few skills and little knowledge live with more doubt in their lives and frequently feel that they are also in some way unlucky or that the world is just not treating them the way that they think it should.

Many offspring doubt that their parents have all the answers to life and rebel against them frequently being rather certain that they have all the right answers. Many young adults repeat the same mistakes which they have been warned against and only learn through personal bad experiences that many things which role models and parents said were actually true.

Many with religious upbringing start to doubt the mythology and frequently abandon religion entirely and don’t realize that much of the moral code and human nature truisms are still valid today. I too rebelled against religious mythology and the mythology of modern theoretical physics but the difference is that I came up with my own moral code to replace the old one which I now follow “religiously” and advocate that others also follow it.

It is-except in emergency situations-don’t destroy biodiversity, don’t lie, don’t be inefficient, don’t steal, don’t commit adultery if married, and don’t murder.

My advice about modern theoretical physics is to ignore it because we are just not smart enough to answer the questions which it is trying to solve with absurd mathematical theories.

I am one of those rare individuals who has almost no doubt about anything and is confidently living life very different from those living which much uncertainty and a dearth of knowledge in many things.
