Wane: v. to decrease at a small rate after a subset(s) has reached a relative maximum for that subset(s)
A slowly decreasing interest in a new gift or toy after the initial intense excitement and interest is waning interest in that new gift or toy. Getting bored with something slowly is also a waning interest with that something.
A slow decrease in the size of something could be considered to be a waning something such as the gradual change from a fully illuminated moon to a dark moon over a period of days called a waning moon.
