SELF IMPROVEMENT

Before improving yourself you first have to self analyze yourself and determine your strengths and weaknesses, what you want to improve, what your immediate and ultimate goals are, how you are going to go about improving, and finding the time and place to do the improvement on a scheduled basis.

Strengths and weaknesses are primarily mental ability, physical skills, a combination of mental and physical skills, and relationship skills.

Perhaps the best place to start is to broadly determine whether you are an introvert who likes to do things largely on your own or an extrovert to whom engagement with other humans is an important part of a daily routine. For an extrovert social skills are very important but to be respected and maybe even admired you have to have a good personality which means that you have to be trustworthy, have integrity, be dependable, and competent in what you do. Having integrity means that you are honest and moral or ethical.

If you are the pretentious type or like to break the rules if that gives you an advantage then it is time to do something about this weakness. Stop pretending to be someone you’re not and stop trying to outwit the social system by being immoral, behaving badly, or breaking the rules with dishonest behavior. In the long run you will not be respected by others if you are a rule breaker or unethical. The sooner you become a straight shooter and try to be a good human the more you will benefit a satisfying happy lifestyle and not be trapped in a dysfunctional lifestyle filled with tragedy and misery.

Trustworthiness, integrity, dependability, friendliness, empathy, and competence are important for almost everyone hoping to improve themselves. To gain and maintain respect you must be trustworthy and have integrity which basically means that you are honest, moral, dependable, and competent.

Organizational ability is a strength which is important in almost any task so it helps if you are disciplined and like to work in an orderly environment. If you are disciplined and orderly then your strength may be in task prioritization where you determine the importance of one task compared to others and then create a task completion schedule and proceed with dedication, determination, and enthusiasm to achieve it.

Being disorganized is a weakness which can only be cured by starting to clean up your room or house, maintaining good hygiene with clean clothes, and scheduling your time by sleeping, eating, working, and relaxing at regular times during the day. In other words set up an orderly daily routine where your behavior becomes a daily predictable set of good orderly habits.

In almost anything that you set out to do you will be making some mistakes along the way so it is important if you can easily learn from your mistakes and not repeat the same mistake over and over again. If you are a quick learner then this is a definite strength. If you are a slow learner then this is a weakness and you should shy away from areas where an ability to change or adapt to change is important.

Another strength is relationship, communication, or interpersonal skills often called emotional intelligence which is important in managerial fields, family, friends, and acquaintances.  If you are an extrovert then that can be a strength but even introverts can have successful relationships with important humans in their life such as a boss, child, spouse, or close friend.

If you come from a large family and had many friends in school then that can be a world of interpersonal experience which will come in handy in a managerial role where you are managing many humans. Of course an ability to remember names relatively easily and little details about a human is also a vital skill or strength for a leadership position.

Communicating well is a strength which really only comes from practice. If you are socially shy and not very confident with humans then let others do most of the talking. Don’t be afraid to be a good listener and brave enough to ask good follow up questions relevant to the conversation. If you don’t have much to say then let others do most of the talking and stay engaged by asking a lot of relevant questions. Humans that talk about themselves and what they are doing will feel important and sense that you care about what they think and do and will respect your attitude if not your persona.

It is hard to be creative or analytical if you don’t know much about your subject matter with which you have had little personal experience. Creativity and analysis are advanced skills which you gain once you approach mastery in some area or field.

Then there are many jobs or skills where creativity is not that important. If you are a stock clerk or auto mechanic creativity is not as important as it is in being a web or dress designer. If you are learning new skills such as the use a power tool or learning to play basketball creativity is not important. If you enjoy trying something new and experimenting with things then a creative field may be something you should look into.

Weaknesses are not having integrity, not being organized, not being a good conversationalist, not being friendly, and not being competent. Fortunately you can work on these weaknesses and improve them with time, effort, and dedication. If your weakness is that you have a poor memory or are clutsy then unfortunately you will have to live with these weaknesses and chose a job where these are not severe handicaps and associate mostly with other humans who have poor memories or are clutsy.

If you want to improve one of the most important things is to begin setting short and long duration goals to achieve. It then becomes important to realistically assess your ability to reach these goals. The most tragic thing in life is to set such high and lofty goals for yourself and then realize through repeated dismal failures that you were just not talented enough or don’t have enough natural ability to reach them.

If you have a poor or average memory then don’t dream about becoming a celebrity, doctor, scientist, president, CEO, systems analyst, programmer, etc. where outstanding mental ability is a necessity. If you think that by hard work you can achieve anything you want to be then you will be severely disappointed or suffer from premature burnout if you try to push yourself much beyond your natural abilities.

The wise human makes a realistic appraisal of his or her brain power or natural abilities and makes them match the goals which they would like to achieve. If you have poor or average coordination or muscle memory then don’t dream of and try to become a sports superstar. You will fail miserably and live with bitter resentment the rest of your life.

For many skills that you want to improve it is usually a matter of working hard at it or spending a lot of time, energy, effort, and determination on it with practice and more practice until you reach the level of competence which you desire.

If you want to improve your personality or change your bad habits then that is one of the hardest things to do since you need self awareness, desire, courage, enthusiasm, planning, and doing. You will have to research and find out what bad and good habits are and which ones apply to you. Then you will have to determine which of your bad habits you want to eliminate or reduce considerably and replace with some of the good habits which you already have or would like to have.

You will need courage, enthusiasm, and a desire to set up a schedule for your good habits and then follow through with determined action on a daily or weekly basis. Of course it helps if you become aware of what your worst bad habits are and work on them first by replacing them with your best good habits first. Later you can concentrate on eliminating bad minor bad habits and introducing some new good habits which should help you to become a better human.

For self improvement to be successful you have to find out WHAT you want to improve and then determine HOW MUCH time, energy, effort, and money will go into the improvement based on a planned schedule. Following through with the planned schedule is the hardest part because it requires desire, courage, enthusiasm, and determination to achieve the plan. If you have the right attitude and a written down plan then doing it should be a lot easier to do.

Without self improvement an average life will probably remain rather mundane and even boring. If you improve then your life should get better in some small or big way. If you are burdened with many bad addictive habits such as severe drug use, alcoholism, gambling, pornography, promiscuity, hedonism or thrill seeking, then your life at some point may become a living hell.

I did not write this article for humans with bad severe addictive habits because if you have them then you really need real professional advice and action to rehabilitate yourself if rehabilitation is even possible.

GOOD BEHAVIOR, HABITS, OR TRAITS!!!

Most of us have at least a handful of bad behaviors which need improvement and it is often hard to lose them because they have become bad habits or bad traits. One way to eliminate bad habits is to quit cold turkey and not do them anymore but for most of us replacing them more and more with good behaviors or good habits is the practical way to go.

There are good behaviors and good habits which exist almost on a daily basis and these are more important than the good behaviors or habits which are displayed less frequently or only on special occasions.

Almost daily good behaviors or habits are:

Eat healthy organic food and drink as much as possible.

Exercise or move around enough.

Get plenty of sleep.

Work hard and smart.

Be trustworthy.

Being trustworthy is the most important thing in human relationships. Trust is the bond which keeps good relationships going. Without trust there is no relationship or a very dysfunctional one. Trustworthiness is having integrity or being honest and morally or ethically sound, being dependable, and competent. Trust in a human,  product, or service is the source of loyalty which many want and can appreciate.

Be dependable and punctual.

Being predictably dependable or reliable is important because trust begins to decline if a human can’t depend on you to be punctual, fulfill given promises, and behave in a generally predictable fashion. If someone can’t depend on you to do a good job in a timely way or fulfill a promise in a timely way then you are not very trustworthy due mainly to incompetence. Being trustworthy means having integrity or being honest, being moral or ethical, being competent, and being dependable. You definitely don’t want to have an untrustworthy reputation which is often gotten by lying or being pretentious.

Have integrity or be honest and moral or ethical.

Humans with integrity can often be trusted because they are honest and moral or ethical. Yes, being dependable and competent is also very important in developing trusting relationships and enhances your integrity.

Be disciplined or organized

Being disciplined and organized is a sign of behavioral competence which is very important for personal improvement and being respected for being a together human who is responsible for her or his behavior. Being disciplined and organized is especially important in the workplace where proper scheduling, prioritizing of tasks, and timely completion is so important.

These good behaviors or habits are especially important when interacting with others which may be on a daily basis or far less frequently:

Be loyal and fair.

Loyalty is a devotion to a human, organization, cause, product, or service and it is considered an admirable trait if the human, organization, or cause is not an immoral one. Loyalty usually means getting supported and not being stabbed in the back unless it is deserved for bad or immoral behavior. Loyalty is also inspired by being fair or giving credit where credit is due and sharing the rewards and punishments on the road to successful cooperation and achievement.

Be encouraging, cheerful, optimistic, and compliment.

The above all reflect a positive considerate attitude which is a great help when trying to motivate other humans to do well or behave well.

Be enthusiastic and energetic.

Enthusiasm and energy are contagious and humans who have it have more of an impact on another’s behavior.

Be sincere, polite, and respectful.

Being sincere, polite, and respectful is the best approach when interacting with strangers. It is also usually the best approach when confronting bad behavior which can’t be changed or avoided and is a way of keeping your cool under undesirable bad pressure or circumstance.

Be helpful and considerate where appropriate.

Some humans occasionally need help and consideration so if you are not too busy then offer that help or consideration which may just be a suggestion or a bit of friendly advice. Be careful to not be overly generous with your help or consideration because some will come to always expect it from you and they may become a demanding burdensome responsibility.

Be responsible and fulfill promises.

Do your best but own up to your mistakes if you make any and be responsible or accountable. Fulfilling promises is also a sign of being responsible for the promises that you make to other humans who are depending on the fulfillment of those promises. If you don’t fulfill a promise then it feels like you have lied about a promised future behavior and that can begin destroying a trusting relationship.

Be caring and empathetic.

Being caring and empathetic is very important in family life but if you are a boss or leader then some caring and empathy are also important towards your workers since it makes them seem important in your life.

Be kind, considerate, and compassionate.

This is very important when dealing with bad behavior in children, especially when they make unintentional mistakes in life. Your spouse will also appreciate a kind, considerate, and compassionate attitude and behavior since it is a very important part of loving behavior.

Be cooperative and forgiving where appropriate.

This is very important in human interactions, especially when cooperation leads to problems or unintentional mistakes which need forgiving to avoid intense arguments or disagreements. The forgiving may be conditional upon a promise not to make the same mistake again or a promise to do better the next time around.

Be brave, persistent, dedicated, and patient.

Being brave or courageous and continuing despite frustrations and obstacles in your path is important. A worthwhile struggle will often pay off with persistent, dedicated, and patient continuation.

Be responsible and confident.

Being responsible or accountable for your behavior is important and maintaining confidence despite a plethora of drawbacks is a positive sign of seldom giving up if the cause or task is worthwhile doing and doing well.

Apologize where appropriate.

One of the hardest things to do, especially if you are in a leadership position, is to admit that you did something wrong, behaved badly, or hurt someone’s feelings. An apology may be appropriate but even more important is taking steps so that the mistake or bad behavior will not happen again.

Playfulness and humor.

Playfulness and humor can be entertaining in family life and in interactions with close friends. In the workplace some will not get your humor and playfulness conveys a non serious attitude which is often not conducive to a good working environment.

Be a good careful listener.

No one is a know it all so careful listening is important in any conversation. You must know what is being spoken and even better is knowing the frame of reference from which the conversation is coming. Listening well and asking appropriate questions can be a learning experience, so don’t be too anxious to convey your own opinions or beliefs and perhaps responding inappropriately to a conversation. Yes, interruptions or trying to change the subject is acceptable if the conversation is getting too boring or seems to be off topic or going nowhere important.

Tolerance

There is tolerance for different behaviors and different opinions and beliefs which is personally good and good for society. Then there is tolerance for bad behavior and immoral or unethical behavior which is bad for family life and bad for society in general.

Teamwork

Most of us interact socially so cooperative teamwork is not only important in family life but is also important in the workplace. Failure of one individual usually impacts the success of others so everyone working towards common goals responsibly is the key to organizational and family success.

Mentioning traits is one approach to being aware of which ones you display more often but to really understand good traits or good habits you have to read about and make a list of the details or examples of a good trait or good habit. What exactly does it mean to have caring, empathetic, kind, compassionate, considerate, cooperative, sincere, complimenting, and polite traits or good habits? Do your own research by inputting the words followed by list or examples into a search engine and find out a list of behaviors or examples of behaviors which represent each trait category. The more examples of traits that you have on hand, the more successful you will be in incorporating those good examples into your own behavior in the long duration.

Awareness of what your good habits or good traits is important but just as important is an awareness of your bad habits or bad traits. Research examples of bad habits such as severe criticizing, gossiping too much, being pretentious, and talking too much. Other examples of bad traits are arrogance, quarrelsomeness, laziness, stinginess, unhealthy eating and drinking, addiction to drugs, gambling, and pornography, gluttony, excessive pride, promiscuity, etc. which should be mainly eliminated or reduced to a minimum to enhance self esteem and improve your reputation among others.

The road to self improvement starts with knowing thyself. So start out by listing all the good and bad habits that you have and then take actions or realistic steps to improve yourself for a better life for yourself and others who will benefit by your good example or role model.

The left, a community of dangerous bullies

Bullying: v. seeking to harm, intimidate, or coerce without rational discussion.

If you have opinions and beliefs contrary to left wing ideology or are not politically correct then you are fair game for bullying tactics which seek to harm a good reputation. This reputation assault is done with verbal threats and name calling, untrue gossiping in social media, fake personal information or news, posting your photos with disreputable humans to create guilt by association, out of context inappropriate comments made many years ago, and calls for blacklisting, censorship, or social ostracism which threaten your livelihood. Almost anything is done to create emotional distress, and feelings of insecurity or fear.

Usually the first bullying step is to stereotype you so name calling can proceed. You may be labeled a white supremacist, a racist, a homophobe, a misogynist, a Nazi or a combination of two or more labels. Being called a racist is currently in vogue and if you mostly read books published by white authors or support a white historical figure who lived before the 1960s, who probably had racist tendencies, then you too are a racist with guilt by association.

If you are white then you obviously are a white supremacist and believe in white privilege. Labeling you automatically makes you an evil enemy to be dispensed with, with harsh criticism, insults, put downs, ridicule, and humiliation which are aggressive verbal bullying tactics next to primarily name calling.

Bullying is fundamentally a power play and an attempt to dominate not through reasonable discussion but with aggressive no holes barred verbal tactics. Most in society do not like bullies and fortunately many are beginning to view the tactics of the left as overbearing and unjust.

Yes, many are intimidated by bullying and are starting to lead secretive lives without sharing their true conservative traditional feelings, opinions, and beliefs or are going to alt media to express themselves freely. Tucker Carlson is the latest Fox commentator intimidation victim with major corporations withdrawing their ad support and effectively threatening his livelihood.

Academia, the establishment media, celebrities, and globalists are bullies par excellence and will continue to dominate the public domain on into the foreseeable future unless a return to some rationality happens. The tragedy is that almost no one is coming up with a bold clear vision of the future with realistic steps to take along the way to escape from the chaotic morass of stupid ideological ideas which are threatening modern society today. Trump seems to be trying to make America better but so far seems to be almost a one man show trying to fight the bullies.

How long will society tolerate these bullying tactics? What human or organization is going to be the core for a moral or ethical reawakening along with rational legal steps to be taken for a better future? The bullying must stop somewhere and sometime or we will descend into an intolerable, aggressive, ruthless, schoolyard national dystopia.

UNIVERSAL MORAL CODE?

According to anthropologist Oliver Scott Curry there are 7 distinct moral behaviors which promote the common good in all cultures and proposes a universal moral code- helping family, helping your group, reciprocating, being brave, deferring to superiors or respect, dividing resources or fairness, and respecting prior possession or property rights. This is generally an overview of collective rights and does not give any guidance on individual moral behavior within a group.

The family or group may be criminal in nature so is it moral to lie, steal, commit adultery, and murder if it helps the family or the group? How do you reciprocate if you are lied to or stolen from when interacting with others outside or inside the family or group? Being brave may also mean bravely breaking the law or being immoral so what you are being brave about is an important consideration. Do you respect immoral or unethical behavior if it is coming from a superior? How do you divide resources within a family with minors or a group of adults and make it fair?

And finally what are the property rights within a family, group, or nation? None of these questions are answered clearly with this phony universal moral code which is not a moral code by any stretch of the imagination. A moral code like the 10 commandments are rules of behavior for individuals and the universal moral code has no rules of behavior for the individual. How do you help or reciprocate are unanswered questions. The universal code is just vague generalities with no specifics or details which are left to the imagination of the reader and the generalities apply to criminals as well as law abiding moral individuals. There is nothing moral about this universal code.

I leave you with an example of a modern secular moral code which is- in non emergency situations- don’t destroy biodiversity, don’t lie, don’t be inefficient, don’t steal, don’t commit adultery if married, and don’t murder.

RE-EVALUATING  CHINA!!!

It started with Nixon in 1972 opening up harmonious diplomatic relations with China and reduction of trade restrictions. Since Reagan the strategy was to integrate China into the liberal international order and hopefully instill with economic development a desire for more political freedom.

Instead China became an aggressive autocracy ruthlessly suppressing dissent. The rising middle class which was the theoretical bastion of political freedom was easily suppressed with the help of the Chinese censoring internet. China became richer but not any freer.

The Clinton, Bush, and Obama administration never really publicly strongly spoke against the absence of human rights in China, a definite ideological threat to the west. Today just as worrisome is the ideological censorship by international tech companies, which is an internal threat, using China as a successful censoring example.

International banks and corporations were all too eager to invest in China hoping for great profits from a billion customers. Little did they fear that the Chinese demanded over 50% ownership of every foreign economic enterprise in China and demanded to know all the manufacturing details. China then went on to burst the greedy capitalist bubble with knock off products and the theft of intellectual property thus gaining an unfair competitive advantage for Chinese companies which produced the same products at lower cost. The Chinese steal vital information which they can’t get legally and use it to compete unfairly in the marketplace by subsidizing key industries if deemed necessary for strategic purposes in the long duration.

Many American industries were decimated by the unfair competition in the name of world free trade and many lost their jobs. It is only the Trump administration that has tried to retaliate against this injustice with tariffs as an initial weapon. China has never played fair economically such as refusing to have its companies audited by the Securities and Exchange Commission rules which other companies must comply with. China has become a strategic threat by trying to control or monopolize the raw materials and manufacture of  vital military and electrical grid products.

Human rights are fast becoming important with the crackdown on Hong Kong and maybe eventually Taiwan.  The Chinese controlled World Health Organization via a Marxist proxy leadership refused to accept early truthful warnings about the contagiousness of covid-19 from Taiwan whom China does not recognize as an independent country. The lack of transparency about covid-19 and hoarding of medical supplies is a perfect example of the real fact that China can’t be trusted, will not tell the truth, and will suppress it and even lie if truth is not in the interest of the Chinese Communist Party and its goals.

The Chinese virus took down the US economy almost overnight and China’s reputation as a ruthless economic imperialist bent on international domination is now becoming more widely known and recoiled from with disgust by some. Yes, it will take time to decouple from Chinese goods and the Confucius institutes in our universities but decouple to some extent we must.

Hopefully the capitalist love affair with China will eventually be over or at least severely limited. This reevaluation of China is long overdue.

WHY MOST ARE NOT VERY LOGICAL!!!

You probably think that this article is going to teach you how to be more logical and reasonable. It is not that easy. In fact there are many reasons why being logical and reasonable is not the normal state of the human mind and its thinking process.

So I will begin by showing you why the vast majority are not logical thinkers since it takes years of discipline, experiences, and useful information to become more logical and want to pursue the truth which is the foundation of logical thinking.

The most important thing with logical thinking is that if you start out with untruths, false information, or lies then you can be the most logical with this information and still come up with irrelevant, untrue, or false results. There is a lot of truth to the statement “garbage in and garbage out” which also applies to computer algorithms.

If you input shitty false information into your brain or a computer program then you will usually get shitty false information back.

Where does this untrue or false information come from? In subjective fields of interest the false information comes from incompetent and sometimes competent authority figures who make occasional mistakes in gathering and disseminating information, especially if it is an opinion based on faulty information or facts. Just because someone has a doctorate or is your favorite celebrity does not guarantee that everything they say is the truth that you can bet your life on.

With authority figures it all comes down to a question of trust. It is not whom do you trust 100% of the time to give you factual information and valued opinions but whom can you trust about 80 to 90% of the time since no human is perfect all the time.

Of course the best approach is to fact check everything yourself but that is just not realistic in the world that we live in where time is such a precious commodity which shouldn’t be wasted. You always should be asking yourself whether the information that you are getting is going to affect your life in important ways. If the answer is that it won’t affect your life much or not at all then fact checking is really a waste of time.

Presently the field where logic doesn’t play much of a role is in politics and journalistic reporting. Very few, except for the wealthy, really feel or trust that the government and establishment media is helping them to lead more secure and prosperous lives. Journalistic excellence has given way to a tabloid press sensationalizing events with sound bites devoid of important information.

Political discourse is no longer civil and reserved but peppered with insults, name calling, put downs, ridicule, and humiliation which is designed to try and destroy the reputation of humans who dare to oppose politically correct viewpoints. If you want to be logical about politics then you are being delusional and almost no one will take you seriously. The truth does not reign supreme in politics but propaganda reigns supreme on both sides of the political spectrum.

After all this one can seriously ask what can you be logical about? Yes, the bastion of logical thinking is science where you analyze and then synthesize factual information and validate the results with experiments that give the same results over and over again. Most of us in the real world use the fruits of science or technology but we don’t use much logic in other fields of interest which are very subjective by nature and usually have very biased authority figures.

True logic demands structured valid thinking, research, and more thinking to get reasonable results. By nature most humans are impulsive and make split second judgments about most things based on prior life experiences, especially prior information gathering without thinking that much.

Becoming logical is not an overnight phenomenon but takes years of gathering useful information and experiences and training in math, especially Venn diagrams, sets, subsets, statistics, probability and frequency to be able to analyze and then synthesize information. Without the above understanding your excursion into logical thinking will always fall short of the ideal.

What follows are some of the major reasons why humans are just too impulsive, subjective or biased and can’t think very logically about many things:

Confirmation bias is the tendency for humans to gravitate towards beliefs, opinions, experiences, and authority figures which they personally possess already and tend to look unfavorably on other viewpoints, especially if they challenge or contradict those personal biases. Humans have a tendency to want to impose their existent biased views on the world of new information as much as possible. They tend to be close minded towards outside views when they process new information or viewpoints. Not only do most want to survive physically but most also want their beliefs, opinions, experiences, and authority figures to survive intact and love to defend them when challenged by new or contrary viewpoints, events, and facts.

Pack or group bias also exists where humans prefer to spread and participate in group norms which they feel to be a part of their existence or proximate human behavior. Wanting to be with the personal in crowd is a strong attraction. In a broader sense most prefer their own culture to a foreign one.

Language is partially to blame for this need to have a group identity since it classifies humans based on their group identity such as Muslim, Christian, Jew, atheist, Republican, Democrat, white, black, Hispanic, Native Indian, etc. Humans love their own group and are often suspicious, fearful, and even disdainful of outside groups.

Gambler’s predispositions are another form of erring biases. If you are flipping a coin with heads or tails and you hit 4 heads in a row then you will have a tendency to believe that the next throw will also be heads even though the odds are still 50/50. What this suggests that if some event happens frequently historically there is a bias towards predicting that the same event will happen again just as frequently in the future. So our predictions about the future are heavily biased based on the frequency of past events.

Security or status quo bias. We tend to prefer old habits to new ones and old ways of thinking about things rather than new ones. We often say that we want change but the fact is that our predisposition is towards the security of existing ideas and behaviors and not a change in those ideas or behaviors.

So thinking logically is unfortunately reserved for the elite few and most of us have to live in the real world with personal beliefs, opinions, behaviors, and habits which automatically bias the way that we react in the world around us both consciously and subconsciously. Most of us conform to our culture and group affiliation because we fundamentally want to feel secure and approved of by others. Yes, there are the risk takers and non conformists but the vast majority are just common human beings with basic and what some feel are mundane needs and desires.

We all have different lifestyles and to the extent that we daily live within the confines of those lifestyles they seem logical or acceptable or predictable to us. That predictable existence is really the best that we can hope for, especially if you are relatively security conscious and don’t want others to rock your world or disturb it in any significant way.
