Degree: n. a point on a scale used to measure something quantitatively and/or qualitatively
Degree just basically means a point on a scale which may be mathematical in nature or qualitative and a rather vague position on a scale of subjective excellence.
A high temperature degree is much different than a high or large degree of skill in acting, comedy, and politics which is much more subjectively qualitative in nature. Qualitative degrees often satisfy themselves with just making value judgments of very bad, bad, good, and very good so here there are only four degrees of qualitative measurement or assessment. The most primitive qualitative degree assessment is saying that something is either good or bad which is only two degrees of assessment.
