There are professional, communal, cultural, tribal, groupad, and personal affiliations which can mean membership in them or merely being a donor of money as a contributing member.

A personal affiliation may be having a relative or close friend in an institution such as the school principle being a close relative and/or friend which qualifies as an affiliation but not a contractual one in the strict sense of the word.

Something mandatory is usually written down and an official command to obey without exceptions.

Mandatory official commands can be absolute and without exceptions but mandatory laws should be few and far between because in the real world there are frequently some exceptions to the general rule which should almost never be considered absolute.
