Whether big or small a business must provide good quality information, goods, and services at a reasonable and frequently lowest price. It must also provide excellent customer service with appropriate refund procedures for customers who are not satisfied with their purchases. Cease to improve the quality of what you have to offer and give poor customer service and you will not survive in the long duration.
There are capital intensive businesses which only have international competition and those which can function or start out on relatively little capital and can function locally and eventually nationally.
There are definite monetary advantages to big business especially when they want to expand or introduce new information, products, or services but most are not very innovative, tend to cut corners on quality, and their customer service tends to decline with size.
Financial power and bigness means that they can undercut competitor prices or buy out competitors who are more innovative so the bigger the business the harder it becomes for small businesses to compete.
Most business humans work for someone else, learn the knowledge and skills necessary to run a business and then sometimes successfully branch out on their own.
An internet presence is necessary for almost any business these days but unfortunately it takes money to promote it on the internet and social media is a slow and arduous way of growing your business or selling your intellectual property such as books and artwork.
Maybe with the development of better 3D printing small businesses will once again be able to thrive starting out locally and eventually expanding and growing larger and making new entrepreneurs rich. Now big business still has an unfair advantage and challenging them is very hard to do. New small businesses have an unfortunately high failure rate.
Here are two links to the truth about big business and the truth about small business which is a must read if you are young and thinking of becoming a business human.
